Lean Cuisine Salad Additions (Southwest-Style Chicken) Review

Lean Cuisine Salad Additions (Southwest-Style Chicken)

The other day I spotted Lean Cuisine Salad Additions and curiosity gripped me tight. I try to eat a salad at least once a day, but I'm not very creative, so I was excited to see what the Southwest-Style Chicken Salad Additions would be like.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 pkg (202 grams)
Calories: 260
Total Fat: 9 grams, 14%
Saturated Fat: 1.5 grams, 8%
Sodium: 590 mg, 25%
Carbohydrates: 26 grams, 9%
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugars: 5 grams
Protein: 18 grams

Inside the packaging are 3 pouches. One has the dressing, frozen since this product is kept in the freezer. There's also a package containing the chicken, black beans, corn and peppers; and another with tri-color tortilla strips. The directions are pretty straight forward. Put the frozen "chipotle ranch" dressing in water to thaw, microwave the pouch with the chicken, then add this to a bowl with lettuce (which you provide) along with the now thawed salad dressing and tortilla strips.

The result is visually striking and I have to say, it tastes as good as it looks. The chicken is tender yet still firm, and all the ingredients work well together. The dressing is a little spicy, which is expected of something that bills itself as "Southwest-style" and I must say I enjoyed the amped up salad.

Each package of Lean Cuisine Southwest-Style Chicken Salad Additions provides 260 calories from 9 grams of total fat, 1.5 grams of which is saturated (14% and 9% of the daily value), 590 mg sodium (25% of the DV), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 5 grams of sugars and 18 grams of protein.

Right now there is a printable coupon to get $1.00 off the purchase of 3 varieties of Lean Cuisine Salad Additions at Target, where it retails for $2.39. I really enjoyed the Southwest-Style Chicken and I'll be using the coupon to try some of the other varieties. I wonder which will be my favorite?

Lean Cuisine Asian-Style Pot Stickers Review

Reviewed by Tanya Patrice | May 17, 2013

Lean Cuisine Asian-Style Pot Stickers

Lean Cuisine describes their Asian-Style Pot Stickers meal as, "chicken and vegetable dumplings with rice in an Asian-style dipping sauce." I first reviewed these back in January 2009, but I remember it being one of my favorite Lean Cuisine meals, so I felt an update was in order, with a picture of the actual product and updating the nutrition facts.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 pkg (255 grams)
Calories: 280
Total Fat: 3.5 grams, 5%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram, 5%
Sodium: 530 mg, 22%
Carbohydrates: 52 grams, 17%
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugars: 9 grams
Protein: 9 grams

The heating directions say to microwave at 50% power for 8-9 minutes, which I didn't do - I have no idea how to adjust the power settings on the microwave, and I wasn't interested in trying to figure it out. Instead, I just let the microwave do it's thing for 4 minutes, and the Lean Cuisine Asian-Style Pot Stickers was just as good. The pot-sticker dumplings are tender, firm, yet chewy and the the chicken and vegetable filling is slightly salty in contrast to the sweet dipping sauce. My taste buds were loving this! The rice and veggie mix proved to be a solid partner with the pot stickers - of which there was only 5 - so all too soon, this meal was finished. Naturally of course, since I don't think most frozen meals are filling on their own, I had some veggies on the side.

One package of Lean Cuisine Asian-Style Pot Stickers provides 280 calories and 3.5 grams of total fat, 1 gram of which is saturated (both are 5% of the daily value). There is also 530 milligrams of sodium (22% of the DV), 9 grams of protein, 3 grams of dietary fiber (12% of the DV) and 9 grams of sugars. The ingredients list is not too lengthy and the components are readily identifiable.

I paid $2.20 for a package of Lean Cuisine Asian-Style Pot Stickers (on sale), and it was money well spent as I really liked the taste of the meal.

Lean Cuisine Shrimp Alfredo Review

Lean Cuisine Shrimp Alfredo

Alfredo sauce usually isn't that healthy since it's usually made with cream, but Lean Cuisine found a way to incorporate just enough in their Lean Cuisine Shrimp Alfredo dish, without breaking the calorie bank.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 meal (255 grams)
Calories: 210
Total Fat: 4 grams, 6%
Saturated Fat: 2 grams, 9%
Sodium: 650 mg, 27%
Carbohydrates: 28 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 11%
Sugars: 3 grams
Protein: 15 grams

After the dish was microwaved and ready to eat, I was pleased with the texture of the shrimp and the vegetables, which consisted of broccoli and peas (which there was a lot less of). The linguini pasta was also good, but I found the Alfredo sauce to be a bit thin and watery - but that's definitely one way to cut calories and fat a bit, so I didn't mind too much. The shrimp was delicious (there were 7 pieces - I counted), and overall, I thought the entire meal made for a tasty, pleasant lunch - with a side salad to make it more filling.

Each 225 gram package of Lean Cuisine Shrimp Alfredo provides 210 calories, 4 grams of total fat, 2 grams of which is saturated (6% and 9% of the daily value) and 60 milligrams of cholesterol (20% of the DV). There is also 650 milligrams of sodium (27% DV), 15 grams of protein, 3 grams of dietary fiber (11% of the DV) and 3 grams of sugars.

The packaging mentions that there are no preservatives and the ingredients list starts with blanched linguine (water, semolina, wheat gluten), skim milk, shrimp, broccoli, water and peas - the good stuff is right at the beginning of the list - always a good sign.

I paid $2.20 for this entree (sale price) and there was so much that I liked - the low calorie, protein, shrimp, veggies and even the sauce - so I would definitely buy this again.

Lean Cuisine Tortilla Crusted Fish Review

Lean Cuisine Tortilla Crusted Fish

I raided the frozen food aisle of the supermarket a few weeks ago, and came away with a lot of meals to review. I was on a bit of a "eat more fish" kick, so I decided that one of the meals had to be the Lean Cuisine Tortilla Crusted Fish. The picture on the box made it look very appealing, and who wouldn't like something that's described as, tortilla crusted fish with rice, poblano peppers & corn in a sour cream sauce?!

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 meal (226 grams)
Calories: 300
Total Fat: 9 grams, 14%
Saturated Fat: 2 grams, 10%
Sodium: 490 mg, 20%
Carbohydrates: 41 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 8%
Sugars: 7 grams
Protein: 13 grams

When I microwaved this meal - you could smell fish throughout the entire kitchen - good thing I did this at home and not at work, as I imagine some people wouldn't like it. But I was a hungry bear and it smelled delicious to me. The food around the edges of the container did get a little hard/ crusty from being microwaved, but nothing major. The rice with poblano peppers & corn was just a tad spicy & creamy enough without being unpleasantly mushy - I think thanks to the diced up veggies. And the fish held up surprisingly well - the bottom looked a little soggy, but that didn't seem to affect the dish too much. The fish tasted like a lightly seasoned white fish with a light crust.

Each 226 gram portion provides 300 calories from 9 grams of total fat, 2 grams of which is saturated (14% and 10% of the daily value). There is also 490 mg sodium (20% of the DV), 2 grams of fiber, 7 grams of sugars and 13 grams of protein.

This Lean Cuisine Cafe Cuisine meal is made without preservatives (view the ingredients list at the product website) - but the ingredients list is a little lengthy, and white, not brown rice is used.

Overall, I really liked the Lean Cuisine Tortilla Crusted Fish, especially piping hot like how I had it. It's certainly worth the $2.50 that I paid and I would buy it again.

Lean Cuisine Veggie Cuisine Indian-Style Masala Review

Lean Cuisine Veggie Cuisine Indian Style Masala

We have a LOT of Lean Cuisine Reviews - you would think I've tried them all by now, but LC is always putting out new products, and trying different things. Recently, I came across Lean Cuisine Veggie Cuisine products - a new line of meatless offerings from the company. I scooped up the Indian-Style Masala, which is described as, "gardein chick'n strips, in a creamy tomato curry sauce with cauliflower, carrots, peas and whole grain brown rice."

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 entree (262 grams)
Calories: 290
Total Fat: 6 grams, 9%
Saturated Fat: 3 grams, 15%
Sodium: 640 mg, 27%
Carbohydrates: 39 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugars: 7 grams
Protein: 20 grams

What had me oohing and ahhing about this meal was the curry sauce. It is lightly spicy and so flavorful that nothing entered my mouth without first being dipped in it. The cauliflower florets were bigger than I've seen in many frozen meals, and since I'm not a cauliflower fan, I wasn't too thrilled (but I'm happy they didn't skimp on the vegetables), and anything dipped in that curry sauce became mighty tasty. The "fake chicken" - or rather, Gardein chick'n didn't exactly taste like chicken - in fact, it didn't have much flavor on it's own - but ... you should know what's coming next ... anything dipped in the curry sauce (say it with me) = tasty! Color me impressed Lean Cuisine because you did pretty darn good with this Indian-Style Masala.

A Lean Cuisine Veggie Cuisine Indian Style Masala entree (262 grams) provides 290 calories from 6 grams of total fat, 3 grams of which is saturated (9% and 15% of the daily value), 640 mg sodium (27% of the DV), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 7 grams of sugars and 20 grams of protein.

I purchased this on sale for $2.50 and I would buy it again in a heart-beat. In fact, I've been back looking for it several times, but haven't been fortunate enough to find it again. I hope it becomes more widely available, and I'm looking forward to trying the other varieties of Lean Cuisine Veggie Cuisine.

Lean Cuisine Thai Style Chicken Review

Lean Cuisine Thai Style Chicken

Lean Cuisine Thai Style Chicken is described as, "roasted chicken tenderloins in a creamy Thai-style sauce with rice." It's part of the "Cafe Cuisine" line of LC - which they say delivers ... bold dishes which bring together premium meats, farm-picked veggies and gourmet sauces for delicious flavor in every forkful.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 entree (255 grams)
Calories: 260
Total Fat: 4 grams, 6%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram, 5%
Sodium: 540 mg, 22%
Carbohydrates: 35 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 9 grams
Protein: 21 grams

After following the really complicated directions - "microwave for 4 minutes and 30 seconds" - I got a a meal with the chicken swimming in so much sauce that it's hidden. But once you coax it out with a fork, you'll find 4 or 5 large pieces of tender meat. The sauce itself is a typical creamy & slightly sweet Thai sauce, which went well with the chicken and the rice. But for my tastes, the rice was a bit too mushy, or maybe that's what the Thai style is like. Still, overall, I enjoyed this entree for lunch, although not as much as the Weight Watchers Smart Ones Thai Style Chicken & Rice Noodles (Review).

Coupons.com

Each Lean Cuisine Thai Style Chicken entree (255 grams) provides 260 calories, 4 grams of total fat, 1 gram of which is saturated (6% and 5% of the daily value), 540 mg sodium (22% of the DV), no fiber, 9 grams of sugars and 21 grams of protein. The ingredients list is fairly typical, starting with blanched enriched long grain paraboiled rice.

I purchased a box of the Lean Cuisine Thai Style Chicken for $2.50 and at that price, I would buy it again. Although I wasn't wowed by this one, it wasn't too bad - just felt like it was missing something - maybe a little hot pepper sauce to make it a little more spicy.

Kettle Cuisine Thai Curry Chicken Soup Review

Kettle Cuisine Thai Curry Chicken Soup

Kettle Cuisine Thai Curry Chicken Soup is described as having, "All natural chicken, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, bell peppers and brown rice are combined with aromatic green curry, lemongrass and coconut milk in our made-from-scratch chicken stock to create a perfect balance of authentic Southeast Asian flavors." Well, that sounds fantastic to me, so this was what I pulled out for lunch a few days ago.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 10 ounces (1 container)
Calories: 330
Total Fat: 11 grams, 17%
Saturated Fat: 8 grams, 40%
Sodium: 560 mg, 23%
Carbohydrates: 44 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugar: 2 grams
Protein: 13 grams

This soup comes frozen, and the directions say to run it under water for 30 seconds to loosen it from the bowl, then add it to a pot and heat, stirring frequently, which is what I did. Or you could zap it in the microwave for 3-4 minutes. This gluten- and dairy- free soup certainly delivers on the Thai curry flavor - which to me is very distinctly different from an Indian curry (which is what I grew up on). Thai curry is more aromatic, sweet and slightly creamy in texture and taste. It took me a while to get used to Thai curry actually, but I do like it. And this soup - well, it's very full bodied with the rice, chicken, bamboo shoot and all the other ingredients. Totally delicious.

Workout Music Playlists at IntheGym.net

I loved the taste, but was not crazy about the amount of saturated fat - 8 grams or 40% of the daily value per 10 ounce serving (1 container). Each serving of Kettle Cuisine Thai Curry Chicken Soup also provides 330 calories, 11 grams of total fat (17% of the DV), 560 mg of sodium (23% of the DV), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 2 grams of sugars and 13 grams of protein. The ingredients are all natural.

I received samples of this soup to review, and I do love this take on chicken soup as it's hearty and zesty, but, with all the fat, and a retail price of $4.59, I wouldn't buy this just to eat as lunch. As a basis for a bigger pot of Thai curry soup - yes - but solo, I would probably spring for V8 SouthWestern Corn Soup or Pacific Natural Foods Organic Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup, both of which cost less, but also have stellar ingredients.

Lean Cuisine Fajita-Style Chicken Spring Rolls Review

Lean Cuisine Fajita-Style Chicken Spring Rolls

We have done MANY Lean Cuisine reviews, but LC is one company that's constantly adding new products & improving existing ones. Recently, the company let me know about the Lean Cuisine Fajita-Style Chicken Spring Rolls, and I was really stoked to review it. The description reads, "white meat" chipotle chicken, corn, black beans, bell peppers and onions.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 3 spring rolls (113 grams)
Calories: 200
Total Fat: 7 grams, 11%
Saturated Fat: 1.5 grams, 7%
Sodium: 5800 mg, 24%
Carbohydrates: 20 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 8%
Sugar: 3 grams
Protein: 15 grams

Let me tell you, when this first comes out of the microwave, the ends of the spring rolls are not a pretty sight of chicken, corn and onions. Instead it's like a blackened, congealed mass, and after microwaving, there are some oily patches on the "crisping sleeve". Nevertheless, if it's one thing I've learned - it's that sometimes the most unappetizing looking products taste the best (just check out Tasty Bite Madras Lentils Review). So I bit into a roll and was rewarded with a delicious, crispy, spring roll. I could taste the different textures of crunchy corn & chicken (which really didn't have a taste). It wasn't very spicy, but the more you eat, the more the spiciness comes out. Overall, I liked the taste BUT there is no way 1 serving is going to be a filling lunch or dinner. It's either eat both servings (2 serving come in a box) or pair 1 serving with something like Amy's Organic Fire Roasted Southwestern Vegetable Soup.

Workout Music Playlists at IntheGym.net

Each serving of 3 Lean Cuisine Fajita-Style Chicken Spring Rolls provides 200 calories, 7 grams of total fat, 1.5 grams of which is saturated (11% and 7% of the daily value), 580 mg of sodium (24% of the DV), 2 grams of fiber, 3 grams of sugars and 15 grams of protein. The ingredients list isn't too lengthy and has mostly recognizable ingredients.

I received sample of Lean Cuisine Fajita-Style Chicken Spring Rolls but they are widely available in the supermarket aisle, and it's usually on sale - anywhere from 2 or 3 for $10.00 I would buy this again, but definitely not to eat by itself. Similar products that are just as tasty include Trader Joe's Lemongrass Chicken Stix and Kahiki Naturals Vegetable Egg Rolls.

Lean Cuisine Chicken Club Panini

Lean Cuisine Chicken Club Panini

As the temperatures dip here in the North-east, and winter practically banging on our doorstep, it's time for me to seek solace in my favorite cold weather lunch - the soup & panini sandwich combo. I have a panini maker at home, and there are a few brands of frozen panini's that I really enjoy - like Lean Cuisine Chicken Spinach and Mushrooms Panini and Healthy Choice Tomato Basil & Mozzarella Panini. I decided to buy a few I hadn't tried before, hoping to add a few new favorites to my list. The first one I tried was the Lean Cuisine Chicken Club Panini.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 (6 ounces)
Calories: 360
Total Fat: 9 grams, 14%
Saturated Fat: 3.5 grams, 18%
Sodium: 680 mg, 28%
Carbohydrates: 46 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugars: 7 grams
Protein: 24 grams

This is described on the packaging as, "white meat chicken with crumbled bacon, tomatoes, cheese & ranch style sauce on sourdough bread." After a few minutes in the microwave, and another few impatient minutes to let it cool a little, I took a bite. This was not bad at all. Lots of cheese & chicken, but I really didn't taste any bacon - although I saw a few red bits on the sandwich (could have been tomato or bacon). I did taste the sauce, which wasn't overpowering, but added a delightful finish to the experience.

My lunch-time reading material was the nutrition facts on the back of the box. Each sandwich provides 360 calories, 9 grams of total fat, 3.5 grams of which is saturated fat (14% and 18% of the daily value), 680 mg of sodium, 16% of the DV for fiber, 24 grams of protein and 7 grams of sugars.

Lean Cuisine Linguine Carbonara

Lean Cuisine Linguine CarbonaraI was working full time until the point of exhaustion when I stumbled into a grocery store looking to get a few things to stock in the dorm fridge. Lean Cuisine meals were on sale so the question was not whether to purchase some meals or not; the question was simply which variety sounded the most appealing? I picked up a few favorites, such as Butternut Squash Ravioli and Lean Cuisine Cheese Lasagna with Chicken Scaloppini as well as a few varieties I hadn't yet experienced, including the Lean Cuisine Linguine Carbonara.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 pkg
Calories: 300
Total Fat: 8 grams, 12%
Saturated Fat: 2 grams, 10%
Sodium: 590 mg, 25%
Carbohydrates: 44 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 8%
Sugars: 2 grams
Protein: 14 grams

Lean Cusine did a pretty decent job with this pasta Carbonara. Restaurant quality it might not be, but for a frozen meal that heats up in a few minutes, this is quite good. A plethora of little bacon crumbles are sprinkled throughout the dish and contribute to a distinct smoky background amongst the creamy and cheesy alfredo-like sauce. The sauce is fairly thick and there is just enough of it to perfectly coat each bountiful forkful of tender linguine. Peas and red peppers add not only a bit of crunch, but also a level of eye appeal that makes the dish that much more enjoyable.

Each 9.25 ounce Lean Cuisine Linguine Carbonara entree provides 300 calories, 8 grams of total fat, 2 grams of which is saturated fat (12% & 10% of the daily value), 590 mg of sodium (25% of the DV), 2 grams of fiber (8% of the DV), 4 grams of sugars and 14 grams of protein.

Looking at the ingredients list, it's not all natural by any means, but not too bad either - no partially hydrogenated oils. I paid $2.00 for this incredibly satisfying dish and was incredibly pleased with the result. Frozen meals can really come in handy some times, so it helps to know what's delicious, and easy on the calorie budget. Lean Cuisine Linguine Carbonara rocks, and is easily now one of my favorite LC meals.
