NEVER Buy a Weight-Loss Product Based on Before and After Photos Again!

1174723_371790999616274_1784015450_n

Ever since I freaked out and ranted about my stolen before and after photos, I’ve been shocked at the response.

First GMA hopped on the story, then Inside Edition and now fellow weight loss success stories are asking my advice as they find their photos have been stolen as well.

Stolen photos aren’t a new thing. I’ve been battling image thieves since 2005 when I started this blog. In most situations I email the site using my photos, firmly ask them to take them down, and within 24 hours they are removed.

It happens when you share your photos online. I get it.

However, the photo-stealing thieves have been turning to Facebook more and more. They are using stolen before and afters to run some pretty aggressive ad campaigns and (thankfully?) it’s bringing more attention to this issue.

Honestly, I don’t think they realize how “social” social media really is. It was my readers who emailed to let me know my photos were plastered all over Facebook and I’m not the only one.

Meet Sunny.

Sunny

She reached out to me frustrated as the same Facebook page (from the screen shot above) who stole my images stole hers as well. Neither of us have ever used  Natural Garcinia Cambogia or Natural Green Cleanse, the supplements that particular page is peddling.

Here’s Sunny’s REAL story…

It took me about six months to lose the weight that I did to these photos and about a year to reach my goals. I did it through clean eating, exercise and having a great support system from Stephanie Keenan Fit Life group! The last photo of the pants was an innocent picture taken by my 15 year old daughter. We were going through old clothes to donate and take to the resale shop. She picked up the pair of jeans and said “Whose are these?” I said MINE! So she insisted we take a picture of how much I had lost compared to those pants. Sure anyone can buy a bigger pair of pants and claim massive weight loss but that was not the case here. It was a special moment I shared with my fitness folks and it was taken and distorted and used to promote some gimmick product. These people need to be held accountable for their actions!

I agree Sunny!!

Now meet Michelle.

Michelle

Michelle’s photos were also stolen and used on another Facebook page to promote something she didn’t use or endorse.

It took me just over a year to lose 42kgs and it was a very very long journey! I changed my diet to a Primal diet based on meat, eggs, fats, veggies, fruit, nuts and seeds, and I didn’t calorie count. I spent a year of my life immersed in the Primal/Paleo life. It wasn’t always easy but it was so worth it, I cannot emphasize enough how much my life and my health have improved. I used to suffer from Depression, Anxiety Attacks, Meniere’s Syndrome, PCOS and Migraines. I have had dramatic reduction of these symptoms and I finally feel healthy. At times I wanted to give up and just eat all my old faves and veg on the couch, but I didn’t. I was focused as if my life depended on it.

I’m angry that my photos were stolen and used to promote these weight loss scams. It feels like a complete mockery of my hard earned weight loss. I am hoping that by sharing my story that this will bring awareness to what seems to also be happening to countless others, and to highlight just how dodgy these scamming websites and Facebook pages really are. While I can appreciate the silver lining my photo being stolen; the people that have read the truth are now following my page and have been made aware of the scam. I’m thankful that a few hundred people didn’t get sucked in by this. But unfortunately I would say there are countless people that have been. There is no quick fix, no secret, no magic. If there were a pill that worked I believe Oprah would have invented it by now.

You can read more about Michelle’s story on her blog Primal Journey.

Next up, Brandi.

Brandi

Brandi’s photos have been stolen many times before (sometimes even used in print!) but most recently used to sell some weight loss product called ACE. Here’s Brandi’s REAL story.

It took me over a year to lose that weight and I’m still fine tuning myself. I go to the gym 4 days a week at 5am before my kids wake up and I get a long run in on Saturday or Sunday mornings as well. I work full time, have 2 boys, and just want other women to know that if I can do it, so can they. And they can do it with little to no help! All they’ve got to do is TRY!

I receive emails every week from readers telling me they saw my before and after pictures on another “weight loss fad” site. I even have had a few readers tell me my pictures have been printed out and posted as before and after pictures (with FALSE STATS) and have been posted at their gym in Arkansas! I live in Dallas, Texas!

Brandi blogs at MamaLaughlin.

Did you notice the common threat in Sunny, Michelle and Brandi’s stories?

All of their (and my) weight loss took TIME. They did it though diet changes and exercise. They found what worked for them and it WASN’T some pill or supplement.

I will continue to share stories like this in hopes that it prevents at least one person from buying the next “weight loss miracle pill.”

Note: If your photos have been stolen and used to promote a weight loss product or supplement, send me a message on my Facebook page with the following information:

Screen shot of stolen before and after photo (not your originals)Link to your site and/or Facebook page (where your original story or photos can be found)A paragraph or two of how you REALLY lost the weight, how long it took and why this makes you so angry.

Video Product Review and Giveaway: Quaker Real Medley’s

Quaker Real Medley's

Quaker reached out and asked if I’d be willing to review their latest product: Real Medleys. Before agreeing I asked a few questions…

Can I have a little more information on the product before I agree. My readers are looking for natural and low calorie options. Do you have ingredient lists and the nutritional information?

They sent back…

Quaker Real Medley's nutritional informationI’m including the Nutrition label for the Cherry Pistachio flavor oatmeal. All of the oatmeal varieties range from 250 -290 calories. The ingredients are not on this label, but I included them for your reference below as well. Let me know if it sounds like something your readers would be interested in.

Thanks!

Ingredients: Whole Grain Rolled Oats, Dried Sweetened Cherries (Cherries, Sugar), Multi Grain Blend (Whole Grain Rolled Oats, Rolled Barley,Whole Grain Rolled Rye),Brown Sugar,Pistachios, Almonds, Nonfat Dry Milk,Whole Grain Rolled Wheat,Natural Flavor,Salt.

Contains: Wheat, Almond, Pistachio and Milk Ingredients

After seeing that I agreed! I get all excited when big brands make convenient products with real food.

Our shipment arrived last week and I, again, put Little Guy to work helping me review…

He’s such a goof ball!

Anyway, as I said/showed in the video, Quaker Real Medley’s com in 4 flavors: Apple Walnut, Summer Berry, Peach Almond and Cherry Pistachio. To cook just add water and microwave for 45 seconds. You can’t get much easier than that! They are tasty, satisfying and convenient. A great combination for busy mornings and I love that you could eat them in the car on the way to work.

On to the Giveaway!

Simply leave a comment below to be entered to win a sample of Real Medleys and a $75 gift card. I will randomly pick a commenter and announce next Wednesday. Prize can only be shipped to the USA. Sorry my international friends. :(

Good Luck!

Update: People are asking about price in the comments and I realized I only mentioned it in the video. They are $1.79 each. Compared to bulk oatmeal it’s pricey but you have to take into consideration the additional ingredients and convenience. As they say, “Fast, Good or Cheap. Pick two.” These definitely fall in the fast, good category. Hope that helps!

Video Product Review and Giveaway: That’s It Fruit Bars

My first video product review. How fun are these? Well, for me at least.

Less Writing = Less Typos. Considering my track record, that’s a bonus. HOWEVER, instead of a typo I made a ‘speach-o.’ Throughout the video I say “Peach” when I really mean “Apricot.” The three flavors are Cherry, Pear and APRICOT. Not Peach. Oy vey.

Here’s the deal. Watch the video, leave a comment and be entered to win your very own box of That’s It to try for yourself. That’s 12 free bars! I’ll pick a winner on Wednesday. Sorry, U.S. residents only. :(

Disclaimer: This is a paid review. ‘That’s It’ compensated me for posting as well and provided the bars free of charge. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Instinctive Weight Loss System - New, Groundbreaking Weight Loss Product- 7 CD's, Over 7 hours of Hypnosis for Weight Loss and Mind Reconditioning Sold in Over 40 Countries WorldwideThe Instinctive Weight Loss System comes in a 7 CD Pack, in addition to the preloaded audio player. These 7 CDs contain 7 hours of Hypnosis, NLP, and Instinctive Training that helps produce automatic weight loss.
Damien Young, a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Sports Nutritionist, and Personal Fitness Trainer eloquently relays groundbreaking, new information that can't be found anywhere. This insightful 7 hours of information can and will change the lives of anyone who needs or wants to lose weight. By reconditioning the subconscious mind, one can achieve weight loss that's automatic. Losing weight without thinking about it has been the goal of scientists, dieticians, psychologists, and physicians for over a century. Damien Young has discovered the secret, and shares it with you in this inspiring, brilliant, and soon to be a worldwide phenomena of a product. These 7 hours can make a dramatic and profound impact on your life and your body.
In Damien Young's words:
"Every human being has a Subconscious Mind, and this powerful active force in our lives produce over 60,000 thoughts each day in the average person. Only approx. 10% of those thoughts we actually take notice of. The rest come and go, without much scrutinization on our parts. But it's in these 90% of unconscious thoughts that compel us to take 90% of our actions on a daily basis. It's in these 90% of our thoughts that compel us to eat when we're not hungry, to sit instead of stand, to eat food that's detrimental instead of nutritious, and to avoid exercise even when we know of its benefits. By targeting the source of these 90% of unconscious thoughts, and by changing the perceptions and the images associated with our bodies, food, and exercise in a way that makes it not only enjoyable, but rewarding, we can finally say with certainty that long term weight loss is not only possible, but inevitable."

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops

Have you heard? There’s a new VitaTop flavor! Pumpkin Spice! If you are unfamiliar with their products, Vitalicious was originally made famous for their 100 calorie brownie (at least that’s how I found them) but now have a line of VitaTops, VitaMuffins, VitaMixes, VitaCake (which I had for me 32 birthday :) and even VitaCoffee! Which I’ll never try as I’m not a coffee drinker (and no one will convert me, not even Jim Doran who’s been trying to forever!) ;)

I’ve already reviewed Golden Corn, Dark Chocolate Pomegranate, Banana Nut, Chocolate Mint and Apple Crumb. They are all pretty good but the choclate ones dominate in my opinion. How did the Pumpkin stack up? Well let me walk you through my little taste test via the web cam.

Upon initial inspection, I’m not that impressed with the pumpkin seeds on top…

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - seeds on top

I think I might of gotten gipped on this one. It sort of reminded me of that scene in casino. You know…

Oh how I love Deniro but I digress. :)

Looking past the seeds, I broke it in half and I must say the inside looked moist and delicious!

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - inside

So I took a bite…

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - bite

Oh.. My.. Word.. SO good. I mean really. I didn’t think I’d ever like a VitaTop flavor as much as I like the chocolate line but Pumpkin Spice is giving chocolate a run for it’s money! The flavor was spot on to cure that pumpkin baked good craving that seems to happen in the fall and winter months, all for 100 calories, 1g of fat, 26g of carbs, 8g of fiber and 3g of protien. That’s 1 old WWP and 3 new WWPP.

I like the idea of the seeds on top but honestly, they didn’t do much for me. For some reason I think of the seeds as a savory/salty snack and the pumpkin baked good as a sweet/dessert like snack and the two just don’t mix BUT it’s not a deal breaker. I actually popped off the few seeds I had and ate them separately. In my opinion Vitalicious could ditch them altogether but I’m curious what others think who’ve gotten a chance to try them.

Overall I give the Pumpkin Spice VitaTops a thumbs up.

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - thumbs up

Oh! and I ate mine after popping it the toaster on the highest setting right from the freezer. It came out perfect!

If you’d like to order don’t forget to use my code RonisWeigh for 10% off. Click to to check all their products.

Full Disclosure: Vitalicious is a paying sponsor of Roni’s Weigh and they supply me free products to try for review. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own, as always. I specifically seek to work with companies who’s products I like and are willing to support.

Product Review: Pizza Fit ‘n Free – Fat Free Pizza!

Product Review: Pizza Fit 'n Free - Fat Free Pizza!

A few weeks ago I got an email from Robyn after she listened to my podcast about Whole Wheat Pizza Dough. She wanted to bring Pizza Fit ‘n Free to my attention–a fat free pizza. I immediately requested samples so I could review for the site. It’s pizza people. PIZZA. You know how I feel about pizza. I even devoted a complete page with my pizza inspired creations.

The company was nice enough to send me a few samples. I have to admit–I didn’t have high hopes. I’m not the biggest frozen pizza fan. I’d much rather make my own on homemade whole grain pizza dough or Trader Joe’s whole wheat dough. But.. MAN.. it would be nice to have some single serves to pull out for a quick meal whenever the pizza urge strikes–which, for me, is often.

The Pizza Fit ‘n Free is a good size–about that of a standard tortilla pizza. I was actually surprised at the amount of cheese on top. Considering it’s "fat free" I just assumed there’d be minimal cheese.

According to the cooking instructions, you are suppose to cook the pizza frozen in a 400 degree oven for 8-10 minutes. So I fired up the oven and got working on my toppings. You didn’t think I’d leave the the pizza as is, did you? :) I decided on peppers and turkey pepperoni.

Pizza Fit 'n Free - Fat Free Pizza - the toppings

The company only offers plain pizzas and they actually encourage you to top them yourself. There’s even a whole page devoted to topping ideas straight from their customers.

Even though cooking instructions said 8-10 minutes I cooked mine for about 12. It came out looking like this…

Pizza Fit 'n Free - Fat Free Pizza - after cooking

Crispy crust, gooey cheese and complete pizza goodness!

Pizza Fit 'n Free - Fat Free Pizza - close up

I was seriously surprised how good it was. The cheese was amazing! I’ve never seen fat free cheese melt like real cheese before. I didn’t think it was possible! It’s why I don’t buy fat free cheese, ever. According to the web site…

How is your cheese fat free?
We have developed a way to process the fat out of the cheese, similar to the way they process the fat out of skim milk. The cheese is 100% real dairy mozzarella cheese with no fat substitutes.

Curious… but I must admit tasty.

The crust was ok, but like the cheese, it surprised me. I didn’t expect to get that "crunch" when I bit into it but I did. It made each bite very satisfying.

Nutritionally we’re looking at 248 calories, 0g of fat, 41g of carbs, 3g of fiber and 20g of protein per pie. That’s 4 old WWP and 6 new WWPP. Add a ton of "free" toppings and or a side salad and you got yourself a great pizza centric meal for pretty low points.

Pizza Fit 'n Free - Fat Free Pizza - slice

You guys know I feel about making your own meals–I do devote a whole site to it–but I’m also a big believer in planning and convenience. There will be times when you don’t feel like cooking dinner. When you are in a rush and have no desire to make a lunch for work the next day. There will even be times you just feel like having some pizza. It happens. :) When it does I’d rather have a few of these in my back pocket then pick up the phone and order in or hit a drive thru.

That’s why I’m joining the Pizza Fit ‘n Free affiliate program. I love when I find products I like and that I can work with. That means if you are interested in trying the fat free pizza and purchase it by clicking a link from my site I’ll earn 10% commission. I only partner with companies and recommend products that I have tried and enjoyed. It’s one way for me to earn money through the site, especially now that this is my JOB! :) Click here to check out other ways to shop and support Roni’s Weigh.

All that being said, I really do love the pizza, of course I do, again… it’s PIZZA! :) Has anyone else tried it before?

Product, Product, Product Reviews!

I have 3 products that I’d like to share today. These were all sent to me free of charge to try for the purpose of review. I was not compensated in any other way to write these reviews. I should also add I normally only choose to share products I like and use, I rarely do a "bad" review unless I feel so strongly negative about the product it throws me into some sort of freakish a rant. I had the opposite experience with all three of these items. I LOVE sharing new things!

Wasa Thin and CrispyYou may be familiar with the Wasa brand. I’ve seen their products in stores forever and used to by the Crisp’N Light all the time, especially when I was counting points. So when they asked to try their new line of "Thin & Crispy Flatbreads" I was all over it. They sent me a box of each flavor, original, sesame, and rosemary.

I liked them all but by far my favorite is the rosemary. They are as promised, thin and crispy! Totally awesome with a smear of laughing cow and a thin slice of ham or some turkey pepperoni.

The ingredient list is right up my alley too, whole wheat flour, wheat flour, palm oil, salt, barley malt extract, yeast and rosemary extract. Nutritionally, 2 large crackers are 70 calories with 1.5g of fat and 1 g of fiber. That’s 1 WWP! Click here to learn more about the Flatbreads.

Ayala's Sparkling Herbal WaterHerbal water sent me their sampler case of Herbal infused water last year and I was inpressed by the concept but not blown away by the product. The flavor combinations were a little strong in the water and I found some to be medicine-y. HOWEVER, they recently sent me their Sparkling line and I’m in LOVE!

The Sparkling water comes in 3 flavors Lemongrass Mint Vanilla, Cinnamon Orange Peel and my favorite, Sparkling Ginger Lemon Peel. They contain water. Yup, just herb-infused water. No sugar or sweeteners or anything like that.

My only complaint about the product is the price. They run $24 for a pack a 3. That’s $8 a bottle. Pretty hefty. But tasty and fun if you can swing it. The bottles are so pretty I felt like I was pouring a glass of wine. They almost ask to use your best china. It’s funny. Click here to check out the Herbal Water web site.

Healthy Habits Kids PlateMy last review is not a food item but a fun toddler plate. I thought this could make a great gift for the kids in your life. Amy of superhealthykids.com asked if I’d be willing to take a look at a plate she designed to teach toddler’s good nutrition habits.

It’s GENIUS! Simple but genius. Basically it’s separated into 3 sections, a large veggie/fruit one, a small protein one and a small grains one. Although my Little Guy is a bit big for it. He demanded to use it for a few days and we had fun talking about why it was designed the way it was. He’s excited to use it for teaching the baby how to eat healthy. (He really is going to make a great big brother!) Click here to order yours today.

Stay tuned as I have two more reviews to share with you over the next couple weeks. Both are favorites of mine, ice cream and pizza!
