Kathie's Kitchen Super Seedz (Somewhat Spicy) Pumpkin Seeds Review

Kathie's Kitchen Super Seedz

I think I might just have discovered a new favorite snack in the form of Kathie's Kitchen Super Seedz. I saw these at Adams Fairacre Farms a few days ago, and despite the $3.99 price tag (for a 6 ounce bag), I decided to pick up this gluten free, tree nut free, peanut free, MSG free & vegan, snack.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 ounce (28 grams)
Calories: 160
Total Fat: 12 grams, 18%
Saturated Fat: 2 grams, 10%
Sodium: 60 mg, 3%
Carbohydrates: 1 grams
Fiber: 1 gram, 4%
Sugars: 0 grams
Protein: 9 grams

These seeds are super-tasty and somewhat spicy as the name implies. I definitely did not eat more than 1 serving at a time, but in addition to having it by itself, I also added it to home-made trail mix for the kids - they liked the spicy kick. Another reason that I didn't have more than 1 serving is that each serving provides 12 grams of total fat, which is 18% of the daily value. Of that, 2 grams is saturated (10% of the DV). Each 28 gram serving (about 1/3rd cup) also provides 160 calories, 60 mg of sodium (3% of the DV), 1 gram of fiber, no sugars and 9 grams of protein. There is also 25% of the DV for iron.

The all natural ingredients include shelled pumpkin seeds, cayenne pepper sauce (aged cayenne red pepper, vinegar, water, salt, garlic powder), granulated garlic, granulated onion, cayenne, paprika, black pepper, oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, sage.

As I mentioned before, I paid $3.99 for a 6 ounce bag of Kathie's Kitchen Super Seedz (Somewhat Spicy) Pumpkin Seeds - 6 servings - which is definitely on the pricey side of things, but I would buy this again. The nutrition facts are pretty good, all natural ingredients, and I can add it to salads, trail mix, and eat it on it's own. There are quite a few other varieties that I want to try as well, like Original Curry.

Return Of the Pumpkin Head (Holiday Greediness Is Afoot?)

Uh-huh. It all started with The Pumpkin Head Experiment. That’s when I hollowed out my organic orange helmet and affixed it to my cranium. I always look forward to re-attaching my head gear when the season rolls ’round.

\"pumpkin
Now that Fall is  *this close*  to flinging itself into our midst, I’m readying my chewing jaws for increased pumpkin-pie action, cozy nights of couch-azzing while buried in 15 blankets and, as the months go on, they’ll be free food from people throwing holiday parties.

Free food is FUN. m’kay?

But what else is a greedy gal with fitness goals supposed to do at a time of year like this?

I’m keeping my goals at the forefront of my mind. I’m deciding right now what will and won’t be — how far I’ll allow myself to indulge in the indulgences of the holidays, and when to cut that shizz short.

It’s pre-decision making. Ding! I’ve decided to formulate a set of personal holiday-eating guidelines right now, and I’m imprinting these ideals into my noggin as expectations I intend to follow through on, even while staring into the face of holiday delectable goodness. Although voluntary incidents of splurging will still be had, my Greedy-O-Meter will surely be toned down compared to previous years.

Why?

Welp, I’ve got some amazing body transformation progress going on right now (a new progress pic will be posted on January 1st). Repeated overindulgence “just because” it’s the holidays does NOT fit into my plan, so I’ve pre-decided that no overeating trainwrecks will be had.

My plan is 99.998% foolproof. That other .002% is margin for cupcakes.

The mind is a powerful thing. I’m using my mind (not my food-emotions) to control what happens. Where the mind goes, the body will follow. You see what I’m saying?

But this isn’t about willpower. I see it more as taking charge and following through on the commitments I’ve made to myself. It’s gonna suck sometimes. It might will even feel heart-wrenching as I turn away from the greediness and strive to stay on course, yet I intend to finish what I started and NOT let myself down.

Will you pre-decide along with me? We CAN DO THIS together! ((insert champion music of victory here))

Ye wise ‘ole Pumpkin Head has spoken. Now go… Go from this place to frolic and be merry.

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops

Have you heard? There’s a new VitaTop flavor! Pumpkin Spice! If you are unfamiliar with their products, Vitalicious was originally made famous for their 100 calorie brownie (at least that’s how I found them) but now have a line of VitaTops, VitaMuffins, VitaMixes, VitaCake (which I had for me 32 birthday :) and even VitaCoffee! Which I’ll never try as I’m not a coffee drinker (and no one will convert me, not even Jim Doran who’s been trying to forever!) ;)

I’ve already reviewed Golden Corn, Dark Chocolate Pomegranate, Banana Nut, Chocolate Mint and Apple Crumb. They are all pretty good but the choclate ones dominate in my opinion. How did the Pumpkin stack up? Well let me walk you through my little taste test via the web cam.

Upon initial inspection, I’m not that impressed with the pumpkin seeds on top…

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - seeds on top

I think I might of gotten gipped on this one. It sort of reminded me of that scene in casino. You know…

Oh how I love Deniro but I digress. :)

Looking past the seeds, I broke it in half and I must say the inside looked moist and delicious!

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - inside

So I took a bite…

Product Review: Pumpkin Spice VitaTops - bite

Oh.. My.. Word.. SO good. I mean really. I didn’t think I’d ever like a VitaTop flavor as much as I like the chocolate line but Pumpkin Spice is giving chocolate a run for it’s money! The flavor was spot on to cure that pumpkin baked good craving that seems to happen in the fall and winter months, all for 100 calories, 1g of fat, 26g of carbs, 8g of fiber and 3g of protien. That’s 1 old WWP and 3 new WWPP.

I like the idea of the seeds on top but honestly, they didn’t do much for me. For some reason I think of the seeds as a savory/salty snack and the pumpkin baked good as a sweet/dessert like snack and the two just don’t mix BUT it’s not a deal breaker. I actually popped off the few seeds I had and ate them separately. In my opinion Vitalicious could ditch them altogether but I’m curious what others think who’ve gotten a chance to try them.

Overall I give the Pumpkin Spice VitaTops a thumbs up.

Oh! and I ate mine after popping it the toaster on the highest setting right from the freezer. It came out perfect!
