Food Trap Alert! Shortcake Biscuits, Joe-Joe’s Vanilla Creme Cookies, Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt Pops

Warning: This is a Delectable Desserts edition of Food Trap Alerts. If you possess an untamed food trap or haven’t quite perfected the art of greediness in moderation, please click away from this page. Click away RIGHT NOW!!! (maybe go here instead?)

Joe-Joe’s Vanilla Sammich Creme Cookies: Holla!! Best dang vanilla creme sammich cookie I ever chewed on. Every product at Trader Joe’s, including this here sammich cookie of wonderment, has no artificial crap, no GMO’s, no MSG, and no trans fats. It even has real vanilla bean specks in its creme center. You can taste the fine quality of the ingredients, which make this cookie high class compared to other vanilla cremes. But watch out for the high calorie count. Two cookies rakes in 130 calories of fattening that might stick your booty, thighs or stomachs. If you know some gremlin children who deserve a healthier cookie treat, then give them the Joe Joe’s. You can even have one cookie. But don’t you dare shove these into your food trap in mass quantities. You’ll be doing yourself a disservice of tasty destruction. Moderation only, please.

Yasso Frozen Greek Yogurt: Excuse me, but Yasso is a no-no. Great concept. Bad delivery. This frozen Greek pop is nicely oversized and low in calories, but the taste is so dang invisible and bland, even the Greedy Kids were searching for the flavor. Ever slurped on a watered down cup of Kool Aid? Ever drank a can of Pepsi with zero fizz? Ever poured a bowl of cereal, only to discover someone drank up all the damn milk? Yasso is among those kinds of food disasters. Something’s just…missing.

Trader Joe’s Shortcake Biscuits: Can you haz a biscuit? You bet your ass you can! …and you must. Just like the front of the bag says, shortcake biscuits are “wonderful with fresh fruit and whipped cream”. I did that ya’ll — fresh strawberries & a touch of TJ’s whipped cream on top. The biscuit might seem hard when you first grab it, but cut it open and you get a dense, moist biscuit with a perfect touch of sweetness that knows how to get the dessert-job done right. Now please sharpen the claws of your teeth and go gnaw on one of these for yourself.

Arctic Zero Vanilla Maple Frozen Desert Review

Arctic Zero Vanilla Maple Frozen Desert

The website description of Arctic Zero reads, "Now you can have an ice cream-like treat that has less than 150 Calories per pint. It's like a delicious-tasting frozen protein shake you can spoon." Ellen sang it's praises in the review of Arctic Zero Chocolate Peanut Butter, so I was excited when I finally got a chance to try some flavors for myself. I was sent a few samples of the Arctic Zero Vanilla Maple Frozen Desert to try.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1/2 cup (84 grams)
Calories: 37
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 7 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 8%
Sugars: 7 grams
Protein: 4 grams

The nutrition facts are very impressive. Each 1/2 cup serving provides only 37 calories, no fat, 2 grams of fiber (8% of the daily value), 7 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein. The ingredients are all natural and include purified water, whey protein concentrate, organic cane sugar, chicory root, guar gum, xantham gum, natural flavors, monk fruit concentrate.

As for the taste, I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. When the Arctic Zero Vanilla Maple Frozen Desert has melted a little, then it seems to taste better - sweet with a strong vanilla flavor. It's also amazing in smoothies and for making protein shakes (especially with no-sugar added protein powder such as Spiru-tein High Protein Energy Meal Simply Natural Original Vanilla Protein Powder (Review)). But, when it's coming straight from the freezer a la ice cream, it seems lacking. There is a slightly off taste - like when you make ice cream from milk powder.

Coupons.com

Arctic Zero Vanilla Maple Frozen Desert is available on Amazon.com at $46.13 for a case of 6 (1 pint each) - a little more than $7 each, which is quite pricey. BUT, if this is your "ice cream replacer" then it might be worth the price to you.

Have you tried Arctic Zero yet?

Coke: Coca Cola Zero (Vanilla)

Coke: Coca Cola Zero (Vanilla)I don't drink as much diet sodas as I used to, but I still have my preferences. Diet Pepsi over Diet Coke (but regular Coca Cola over Pepsi). There is usually a lot of coming and going within the flavored diet soda world - companies seem to be really quick to scrap what they think the public doesn't like! So, I'm not sure if the Vanilla Coke Zero that I spotted the other day is still being produced or not, but since I like it's Cherry flavored cousin, I quickly snapped up a can to try.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 8 ounces
Calories: 5
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 1 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugar: 0 grams
Protein: 0 grams I cracked open my delightfully chilled can of Vanilla Zero and took a sweet, refreshing sip. If you've tried Coke Zero and compared it to Diet Coke, you know that they taste very different. Likewise, this Zero incarnation of Vanilla soda tastes different that Diet Coke with Vanilla, but it's still delicious. This zero calorie version has a delightful vanilla flavoring that's not too intense, but the sweetness was as ... full bodied as with the regular version. But that's a common difference between regular & diet sodas. But let me tell you - I did love this no calorie Vanilla soda ... maybe even more than plain Coke Zero. sponsor

The ingredients include carbonated water, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, aspartame, potassium, benzoate, potassium citrate, acesulfame potassium, and caffeine.

A 12 ounce can cost $1.00, and it was totally worth it. I'll tell you what - on some days, there is nothing better than a frosty cold soda - one with no calories!

Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Vanilla Caramel Chip Bars

Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Vanilla Caramel Chip Bars

No more will you see Breyers Slow Churned & Double Churn products as the name has been changed to Breyers Smooth & Dreamy. Well, I had fond memories of Breyers Light Double Churned Vanilla and Almond Ice Cream Bar, so I decided to check out some of the "new" Breyers Ice Cream Bars to see if they would be just as good.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (50 grams)
Calories: 130
Total Fat: 6 grams, 4%
Saturated Fat: 4 grams, 20%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 18 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 13 grams
Protein: 2 grams

Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Vanilla Caramel Chip Bars looked enticing with a description on the front of the box which read, "vanilla light ice cream with a caramel swirl, caramel confectionary chips and milk chocolate coating." Okay - so "caramel confectionary chips" doesn't exactly sound delicious - but I decided to go with it anyway.

Ooh, the taste of this was really smooth & dreamy in addition to rich and creamy. The milk chocolate coating was thin and crispy, the ice cream was slow melt so it could be savored and the little chips of caramel in the ice cream were a delight - and oh yes, you could definitely see them.

The taste was every heavenly thing you could wish for in an ice cream bar; but there was aspect of the nutrition facts that I was not feeling too much at all: the 4 grams of saturated fat (20% of the daily value) - a little more than I would like. Each 50 gram Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Vanilla Caramel Chip Bar also provides 130 calories from 6 grams of total fat (9% of the daily value), 13 grams of sugars and 2 grams of protein.

This sweet treat was quite enough for a delicious evening treat - I was satisfied with just 1. A box with 6 cost $3.79 and was worth it. Despite having a little more saturated fat than I would like, I would still buy these semi-regularly, when I'm in the mood for something cold and sweet. Have you tried any of the Breyers Smooth & Dreamy products? Which is your favorite so far? I liked these bars more than the Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sandwiches, but the kids preferred the latter.

Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Yogurt

Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla YogurtMy favorite Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt flavors so far are Key Lime, Lemon Chiffon and Blackberry. Of course, I'm always on the lookout for varieties I haven't tried before, and when I spotted the Vanilla flavor, I couldn't believe that I hadn't tried this classic. Well, I was about to take care of that situation.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 6 ounces
Calories: 80
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 75 mg, 3%
Carbohydrates: 16 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 11 grams
Protein: 5 grams

Unfortunately, the taste of this didn't thrill me. Sure, the flavor was un-mistakenly vanilla, but it also tasted artificial and sweet. The consistency was very fluid, not thick, and it was more like melted, milk-ified candy, and I didn't like that.

Each 6 ounce cup of Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Yogurt provides 80 calories, no fat or fiber, 11 grams of sugars, 5 grams of protein and 20% of the daily value for vitamin D and riboflavin along with 15% of the DV for calcium and phosphorus.

The ingredients include the sweeteners fructose, aspartame, acesulfame K and sucralose. I paid $0.75 for a 6 ounce cup of this Dannon Light & Fit Vanilla Yogurt, but I probably wouldn't buy it again. This definitely is not one of my favorite flavors in the Dannon Light & Fit line - although it's better than the Yoplait Fiber One Vanilla Yogurt.

Breyers Vanilla Bean Light Yogurt

Breyers Vanilla Bean Light YogurtBreyers Light is a line of non-fat yogurts which also has 70% less sugar "than the leading lowfat sweetened yogurt." There are quite a few flavors offered in this yogurt line but I decided to try the Vanilla Bean, because although there are many "vanilla" flavored yogurts, I thought it interesting that this was called "vanilla bean." It makes it sound more natural - but a quick look will reveal that this is sweetened with the artificial sweeteners, aspartame & acesulfame K.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 180 grams
Calories: 80
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 80, 3%
Carbohydrates: 11 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 7 grams
Protein: 6 grams

I opened the yogurt and found a creamy vanilla color with sprinkles of vanilla bean. As I spooned it up, I noticed that it was not as thick as some yogurts and the consistency was more on par with Dannon Light 'n Fit Vanilla Yogurt than something like Stonyfield Farm. The taste was quite a pleasant vanilla - not as artificially sweet as Dannon's vanilla flavor, with a richer, more interesting flavor.

Each 6 ounce cup of Breyers Vanilla Bean Light Yogurt provides 80 calories, no fat or fiber, 7 grams of sugars and 6 grams of protein, along with 20% of the daily value for calcium and vitamin D.

The ingredients list does include vanilla bean seeds, which is nice to see, but as I mentioned before, this is not an "all natural" food product. I got my 6 ounce cups of Breyers Vanilla Bean Light Yogurt on sale for 79 cents each and I enjoyed it, so this is one that I'll buy again.
