Beastmode Power Juice

It goes down real smooth ‘n such: 2 apples, 2 celery stalks, 2 handfuls spinach, 3 large kale leaves, 2 handfuls baby carrots, and 3 sprigs parsley. Don’t be afraid of the Beastmode Power Juice, my peoples.

greens Beastmode Power Juice

Yet this is only but one rendition of my Beastmode Power Juice. Other concoctions I’ve indulged in are:

apple, spinach, cucumberapple, spinach kale, ginger, celery, cilantroapple, carrot, pineapple

There are so many possibilities and I’m just getting started. I’ve been juicing for over 3 weeks now. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made for my fitness in forever. It’s quite accidental that I’ve had no milk, minimal meats & cheese, and very little carbs in these past weeks. I didn’t do that on purpose. My cravings for those kinds of foods has decreased while my stomach’s desire for varying renditions of the Beastmode Juice has increased.

On average, I’m spending about $30 for a small hoard of fruits & veggies (primarily veggies) that provides me with about 4 days of juicing. That breaks down to about $7.50 per day.  Ya, it’s pricey. I know it. But the benefits are worth it.

The gremlin-kids have been helping me juice the veggies. They really get into it and have even been open to taste-testing the green-ish of concoctions. As for the husband? After I begged him 6 times (not kidding) to watch Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, he finally did. It made such an impact on him that he stopped teasing me about my juicing and is now considering a 10-day juice fast. WHAT!?

Juicing the Rainbow: This is a daily online “newspaper” that brings together articles, Youtube vids, photos, stories, etc related to juicing from around the web. You can also subscribe for free to have it delivered to your Inbox. I did that because I don’t wanna miss anything. Juicing the Rainbow always has nuggets of good info and great tips for a healthy dose of juicing inspiration.

It also does me well to simply Google the particular veggie I’m juicing to learn more about it, such as using the keywords: “spinach juicing benefits”. That type of search brings up a plethora of good info.

If you’re not sold on the idea of juicing fruit & veggies, perhaps an alternative juicing of ingredients will tickle your fancy? Here’s the recipe:

2 road-killed raccoon claws (rancid, never fresh)3 slabs muddied elephant skins1 partially-deceased blobfishthe amphibious scales from 10,000 male-Mermaids (do not substitute with female scales)

This juiced-specialty will have you feelin’ like you just got baptized in the waters of the Fountain of Youth.

[Unrelated nonsense content: Merman Found On Beach]

If your juicer’s motor burns out while preparing the above recipe, then it’s probably your own fault. Now goodbye.

Naked Juice Blue Machine Boosted 100% Juice Smoothie Review

Naked Blue Machine

I was at Starbucks the other day doing some work, when I impulsively decided to review one of the beverages they sell there. I picked up a bottle of Naked Blue Machine Boosted 100% Juice Smoothie which cost $4.27 - way more than I would normally spend on a (15.2 ounce) bottled beverage - so I was certainly hoping that this would not only be tasty and nutritious, but would provide some super-duper fuel for my workout later in the evening.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 8 ounces
Calories: 170
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 40 grams
Fiber: 7 grams, 29%
Sugars: 29 grams
Protein: 1 gram

First off - this is not "blue" but purple-ish. But I really didn't care about that - what I can say is that this was one refreshing drink. The first sip and I could feel some of the tiredness evaporating from my body. The drink is thick, sweet and a little tart. I have not one complaint about the flavor as I enjoyed it immensely. I drank only half of the bottle in the morning, because I noticed that each 8 ounce serving provides 170 calories from 29 grams of sugars, 1 gram of protein and a surprising 7 grams of fiber (29% of the daily value).

Naked Juice Blue Machine has (according to the product page) 27 blueberries, 3 blackberries, 3 1/4 apples and 1 banana. According to the label on the bottle, this "no sugar added" juice smoothie has apple juice, banana puree, blueberry puree, fibersol-2 fiber (maltodextrin), blackberry puree, natural flavors, fruit and vegetable juice for color, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), vitamin E (AS acetate), niacinamide, D-Calcium pantothenate (vitamin B5), pyridoxine hydrochlroide (vitamin B6), cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12).

The real question is whether I would buy this again - for $2.50 or less - probably - but for $4.00+ - nope. Too expensive and too much sugar - although I could see adding some water to it since it's so thick and making it stretch. I really did like this though, and if I had enough will power to not drink the entire 2+ servings at once, I would probably buy this more often.

No I just need to get a little extra courage to try the Naked Juice Green Machine!

Tasting! Naked Juice (Part Of A Triple-Trio of Nakedness)

I already told you about the naked Yoga I did. There’s naked jogging, too (although questionable). And now you can add in some Naked Juice 100% Juice Smoothies for a triple-trio of naked adventures. It’s an on-the-go smoothie you can get in the produce section and its deeeelicious! I do love my homemade fruit smoothies, but I always snag me a Naked Juice at the grocery store to chug down while I shop. (yes, I do pay for it first. sheesh)

Red Machine is my favorite so far.

…and this particular Machine right here contains 13 raspberries, 11 strawberries, 3 cranberries, 1.5 apples, 1/4 pomegranate, 1/3 orange, 1/2 banana, and 7 red grapes (that’s alotta fruit), plus a “boost” made up of flax seed, omega-3's, B &C  Vitamins, potassium and 5 grams of fiber.

Haller-luuu-yah!

Damn, I love this stuff. And how about that “no added sugar” thing? All of its 25 grams of sugar occurs naturally from the fruitiness I listed. I highly encourage you to leave those drinks in the juice aisle alone. Thou shalt cleave to thine Naked Juice instead.

NAKED NOTES

Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company Hand Crafted Lemonade Review

natalieslemonade.jpg

Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company sent me a few of their products to try out, and after really enjoying the Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company 100% Florida Grapefruit Juice (Review), I picked out the Lemonade to try next.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 8 ounces
Calories: 5
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 1 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 0 grams
Protein: 0 grams

Each cup of Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company Hand Crafted Lemonade contains 20% lemon juice - which makes it TART! But I like it. I love tart lemonade that makes you smack your lips and go whoa! And it's not the "citric acid" added kind of tart, but real honest-to-goodness lemonade made with real lemon juice.

A 1 cup serving provides130 calories and 33 grams of sugars, and the ingredients are water, lemon juice and sugar.

Coupons.com

I was sent samples to consider for review, but it's available at $3.99 for a 32 ounce bottle at my local grocery store. I'm a fan of the taste and simple ingredients list, but the amount of sugars means this can't be an every day drink for me - but really water is the only thing I drink everyday. I would buy this only on occasion when I'm in the mood for lemonade. Otherwise, to be honest, many of my drinks are sweetened with Splenda.

Do you go for drink with an all natural ingredients list, sugars and all, or do you cut out sugars by using some sweeteners like Splenda?

Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company 100% Florida Grapefruit Juice (Gourmet Pasteurized) Review

Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company Florida Grapefruit Juice

Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company sells "fresh squeezed juice", where the fruit is picked, squeezed and shipped to you the day you order it. Love that concept. And they also have a "Gourmet pasteurized" juice, which, they say, is the same as fresh squeezed but with a minimal pasteurization time and temperature, with the resulting shelf life not being more than 26 days.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 8 ounces
Calories: 100
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 0%
Carbohydrates: 23 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 22 grams
Protein: 1 gram

I had the opportunity to sample their 100% Florida Grapefruit Juice, which is gourmet pasteurized. It's delicious being both tart and sweet at the same time - or as they say, "a perfect blend of pink grapefruit, grown by world renowned Indian River citrus growers, famous for its sweet robust flavor."

Each 1 cup serving of Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company 100% Florida Grapefruit Juice provides 100 calories from 22 grams of sugars. The ingredients are simply 100% Florida grapefruit.

I was sent samples to consider for review, but it's available at $3.99 for a 32 ounce bottle at my local grocery store. While I don't drink juices everyday because of all the sugars, you can bet that when I get a feeling for grapefruit juice, it will be Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company 100% Florida Grapefruit Juice ... or Simply Grapefruit Juice (Review), which also has no added sugars.

Izze Sparkling Grapefruit Juice Beverage Review

Izze Sparkling Grapefruit Juice Beverage

Izze Sparkling Juice is an all natural flavored juice beverage, made from pure fruit juice (from concentrate) and sparkling water. In fact, it contains 70% fruit juice according to the information on the bottle. Various flavors can usually be seen front and center at Starbucks, and so recently, I decided to try the Sparkling Grapefruit flavor instead of getting my usual coffee fix.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bottle (12 ounces)
Calories: 120
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 20 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 31 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugar: 29 grams
Protein: 0 grams

Clearly something that is 70% fruit juice is going to have quite a bit of sugar, and a 12 ounce bottle of Izze Sparkling Grapefruit provides 120 calories from 29 grams of sugars ... which is about on par with 70% of a 1 cup serving of Simply Grapefruit Juice for example.

The ingredients label reads, pure juice made from apple, white grape, orange and graprefruit juice concentrates, sparkling water, citric acid, natural flavor, gum arabic, red radish juice (color).

Coupons.com

The taste was not as tart as I thought it would be, in fact I thought it was a little too sweet, and the flavor is more like a hodgepodge of white grape & apple with sparkling water added. But, as I drank more of it, the tartness started to come out more and more, as did the grapefruit flavor. Still, I much preferred Izze Sparkling Pomegranate over this Grapefruit flavor.

I paid $1.95 for a 12 ounce bottle of Izze Sparkling Grapefruit, and wasn't really moved to purchase that flavor again. I would rather have a plain old grapefruit - a fruit I LOVE - or a glass of Simply Grapefruit Juice.
