Some people swear by a concoction of lemon slices and/or lemon juice in warm water upon waking at the butt crack of dawn. They say it aids in weight loss & more: 10 Reasons Why You Should Drink Warm Lemon Water in the Morning. There there’s the lemon-controversial Master Cleanse Detox perspective. While both are intriguing in their own ways, the refreshing 3-ingredient glass of goodness that I speak of is neither of those things.

This is solely about enjoying a fresh glass of sweet lemonade without refined sugars. I made it for the family. They didn’t know the difference between my homemade instant version and the overpriced Amish lemonade filled with refined sugars that I was buying from the farmer’s market.

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

Pour cold water into your favorite fancy glass.Add fresh squeezed lemon juice to glass, or give a generous squeeze of store bought 100% lemon juice.Add 1-2 packets of Stevia to the glass.Slurp to taste. Add more Stevia or lemon juice if desired. Now drink some more to enjoy instantaneous sweet lemonade splendor.

Homemade Instant Lemonade is not only tasty, it makes it so much easier to fit in adequate water throughout the day. You’re less likely to retain water if you stay hydrated. Lemons also have a boatload of health benefits, so start slurping!

Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company Hand Crafted Lemonade Review

natalieslemonade.jpg

Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company sent me a few of their products to try out, and after really enjoying the Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company 100% Florida Grapefruit Juice (Review), I picked out the Lemonade to try next.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 8 ounces
Calories: 5
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 1 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 0 grams
Protein: 0 grams

Each cup of Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company Hand Crafted Lemonade contains 20% lemon juice - which makes it TART! But I like it. I love tart lemonade that makes you smack your lips and go whoa! And it's not the "citric acid" added kind of tart, but real honest-to-goodness lemonade made with real lemon juice.

A 1 cup serving provides130 calories and 33 grams of sugars, and the ingredients are water, lemon juice and sugar.

I was sent samples to consider for review, but it's available at $3.99 for a 32 ounce bottle at my local grocery store. I'm a fan of the taste and simple ingredients list, but the amount of sugars means this can't be an every day drink for me - but really water is the only thing I drink everyday. I would buy this only on occasion when I'm in the mood for lemonade. Otherwise, to be honest, many of my drinks are sweetened with Splenda.

Do you go for drink with an all natural ingredients list, sugars and all, or do you cut out sugars by using some sweeteners like Splenda?

Crystal Light Pure Lemonade Naturally Sweetened Drink Mix Review

Crystal Light Pure Lemonade Naturally Sweetened Drink Mix

Crystal Light Pure is a low calorie drink mix that has no artificial sweeteners, flavors or preservatives. The Lemonade is sweetened with a combination of sugar and rebiana (Truvia brand sweetener).

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1/2 packet (5 grams)
Calories: 15
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 4 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 3 grams
Protein: 0 grams

I followed the directions on the packaging and added 2 cups of water to a packet of Crystal Light Pure Lemonade. After shaking vigorously, the result was a very tart flavor of lemonade, but I much preferred this to Crystal Light Pure Tropical Blend. In my mind, this was a good starting point, but needed tweaking. Ironically I added a pack of Splenda and a little more water and got something that made my taste buds more happy. But - adding Splenda defeats the purpose of an "naturally sweetened" drink mix, but just adding less water didn't work for me.

A 1/2 packet serving of Crystal Light Pure Lemonade provides only 15 calories from 3 grams of sugars. The ingredients are sugar, citric acid, maltodextrin, calcium lactate, contains less than 2% of natural flavors, rebiana (Truvia brand sweetener), sodium citrate, magnesium oxide, oleoresin turmeric (for color).

The suggested retail price is $3.29 for a box with 7 packs and I would buy this again - knowing that I'll be adding a little more sugar (increase calories) or Splenda.
