Podcast: My Story in a Nutshell

I was completely planning on posting a Top 10 today but I got my hands on the interview I did for the Leave Obesity Behind Telesummit and decided to turn it into a podcast. It’s a really good overview of my past, blogging history and philosophy on weight loss and maintenance. I talk about how I feed my family, Tough Mudders, my running history, FitBloggin, and even BlogToLose.

Be prepared, I like to talk.

I tried to do headstands. This is what happened.

I would stand on my head for YOU! Or at least I’ll try? Never done a headstand before. O_O

…now I feel like the headstand is a precursor to other cool things I’m going to do. Handstands are next! The Land of Doing Cool Things has some wide open spaces for us to roam free. There’s enough room for all of us.

Man Salad

If you know a man-person who whines about the daintiness of salad and refuses to ingest it, we need to be talking about Man Salad. ((insert flashy lights and increased levels of testosterone right here))

man salad Man SaladYa, there’s a piece of fatty bacon right smack dab in the middle of the salad. Just think of it as garnish: fatty… bacony… garnish.

This meal is robust and manly. I fed Man Salad to the husband. He was very pleased. However, the stomachs of hungry women will enjoy it much, as well.

MAN SALAD INGREDIENTS

fresh spinachdiced tomatoes or grape tomatoeshard boiled eggfresh cooked bacon (fatty garnish optional)croutonspinch of shredded mozzarellayour favorite dressing ~ suggestion: a poppyseed dressing goes nicely

For my own salad, I left out the croutons and added red onions & bella mushrooms to make it more girly.

DIRECTIONS: Fashion all ingredients into a salad, and then chew.

And now in other news: I ran over my own foot with the grocery cart yesterday. It hurts real bad. Thank you for feeling sorry for me. I can sense your sympathetic vibes flowing in my direction through the Interwebs right this very moment.

My homemade French Baguettes! Don’t they look delish?

I’ve always been intimidated by breadmaking. It’s long been a skill I’ve wanted to gain as an up-and-coming Homesteader. But could I really do it?

Heck yasss! Yaasss I CAN! Look at my french baguettes. Are you proud of me?

homemade french bread My homemade French Baguettes! Dont they look delish?

“But Josie, you claim you avoid most carbs to stay fit. Why the hell are you gnawing on large bread loaves?”

Thank you for asking.

Carbs are a treat, not a daily event. They go into the same category as the occasional cakes and pies and other delectable foodstuffs I love to stuff into my jawbone. I typically eat carbs only once per week, so figured, why not make the bread myself, using basic ingredients that contain no artificial crap, no preservatives and no other weird surprises. Makes sense, right?

HOMEMADE FRENCH BREAD

3 cups all-purpose flour1 teaspoon yeast1/2 tablespoon salt1/2 tablespoon sugar1.5 cups water1.5 teaspoons melted butter

Yields three loaves, approximately 11-inch by 4-inch in size. Double the recipe if you have more hungry mouths to feed.

DIRECTIONS

Combine all dry ingredients into large bowl and mix by hand.Add water.Knead dough by hand into ball — only long enough to form the ball.Do not add extra flour at this point. Let dough sit for 10 minutes to absorb the moisture.Knead dough by hand for 8 minutes.Put dough ball into very large bowl and let sit for 3-4 hours. The dough will double in size. You know the dough is done when you poke your finger in the dough and the hole remains. If the hole closes back up, the dough isn’t ready to bake yet.Lightly spray baking pan with oil.Lay dough on pan and cut into 3 equal sections.Flatten dough to form its shape, then fold dough over itself longways and pinch the side shut.Use a knife to cut the decorative slices into the top of dough. Slice a little less than half-way through.Baste top of dough loaf with about 1/2 teaspoon melted butter.Bake in hot, 450-degree oven approximately 15 minutes.

I kid you not when I tell you this is the best bread I’ve ever had. It was warm and moist with the just the perfect amount of chewy. I broke the bread open with my bare hands and smathered on the melted buttery goodness, of course.

I dare you to do something you never thought you could do. I bet you’d be good at it. Now get to it!

You Need to Know About This. 8/27/13

omgface You Need to Know About This. 8/27/13 Come with me, my peoples. Let us enter into the fancy realm that goes beyond health & fitness. Here’s some news you need to know about. Information is power. Stay informed.

Care to gouge out someone’s eyes? Smash some groins? A crush to the windpipe, perhaps? This may all seem terribly bad, but there’s a buffet of good fighting tactics you can use to kick an assailant’s ass. This article was right on time since the hubs recently taught me the proper technique to gouge out eyeballs. >>FULL STORY

“Each day, for 882 days, nearly 72,000 gallons of polluted (radioactive) water has flowed into the Pacific Ocean.”

Bad enough for you yet? To say the Fukushima situation is out of hand is an understatement. This problem didn’t go away when mainstream media stopped reporting on it two years ago. It got worse. And now? It’s back in mainstream news again because Fukushima is undeniable. The truth cannot be contained, much like the radioactive water flowing into the Pacific. My post on Facebook shows the path of the contaminated water as it lingers along the Pacific Coast of the United States. While one person labeled this an ELE (Extinction Level Event), all I know is, there’s no fixing it. Keep this issue on your radar. >> FULL STORY

This snippet from SurvivalGearStop.com sums it up perfectly: “The current crisis going on at the Fukishima Nuclear Facility in Japan has been raised to a level three emergency. The water that is being used to cool the melted towers is now rapidly pouring into the Pacific Ocean. This water is so toxic that anyone standing near the water for several hours will get radiation poisoning. At this time there is no solution to the problem. You must be prepared for problems with the food chain, shipping, and even fall out. No one is sure what will happen now that this toxic water has entered the ocean.”

Big Pharma is lusting for more pill-popping power over the masses. Their newest scheme is Shift Work Disorder. There’s a pill for that. You’ll be a basket case of incompetence if you don’t treat this “disorder” with their magic pill, NUVIGIL tablets. Never mind that the pills might lead to death as a side effect. It’s no biggie, yo. >> FULL STORY
