Heaven's Whey Pro-Nola (Chocolate) Review

Heavens Whey Pro-Nola

For the last few days, I've been reviewing my purchases at Adam's Fairacre Farms. Another product that I picked up there is Heaven's Whey Pro-Nola. I'm not the biggest fan of granola - I think they are mostly empty calories, and don't fill you up at all - BUT, recently, I've been having oatmeal with no sugar at all (definitely an acquired taste), and I do like to add some things to ramp up the texture & taste, and this seemed like it might make a good addition.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 ounce (28 grams)
Calories: 130
Total Fat: 6 grams, 9%
Saturated Fat: 2 grams, 9%
Sodium: 55 mg, 2%
Carbohydrates: 15 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 10%
Sugars: 3 grams
Sugar Alcohols: 3 grams
Protein: 5 grams

This is the BEST granola I have ever tried. It's in dense clumps and somehow that rustic vibe works. Just break off a piece and proceed to chomp on this sweet (yes, sweet despite only having 3 grams of sugars and 3 grams of sugar alchols per serving), chocolatey ... and coconuty granola. And surprisingly, I didn't want to eat the entire bag in one sitting. Just a nosh or 2 at a time. And it is insanely good in oatmeal!

As for the nutrition facts - each 1 ounce serving (about 1/4 cup) provides 130 calories from 6 grams of total fat, 2 grams of which is saturated fat (both are 9% of the daily value), 2% of the DV for sodium, 2 grams of fiber, 3 grams of sugars and sugar alcohols, plus 5 grams of protein.

The ingredients in Heaven's Whey Chocolate Pro-Nola include rolled oats, whey protein (whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate, xanthan gum, natural vanilla flavor, luo han guo (sweetener)), maltitol/ polyglucitol, honey, canola oil, coconut, sunflower seeds, cocoa powder, flax seeds, sesame seed, salt.

It cost $6.99 for a 9 ounce bag, which is quite pricey. This is not the lowest calorie granola out there for sure - Cascadian Farm Organic Dark Chocolate Almond Granola Review or Health Valley Granolas are probably better in that department - but where this shines is as an addition. For me, it really jazzed up oatmeal, yogurt & bland cereal. I use just about 1 serving (or a little less), and it adds a touch of sweetness & protein.

Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick Bar Review

Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick Bar

Luna bills itself as the whole nutrition bar for women, "with (70%) organic ingredients, vitamins to meet the special needs of our bodies, and flavors we love, LUNA makes finding nourishment a bit simpler." I picked up a Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick Bar at the grocery store recently, so I could take a look for myself.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (48 grams)
Calories: 180
Total Fat: 5 grams, 8%
Saturated Fat: 2.5 grams, 13%
Sodium: 120 mg, 5%
Carbohydrates: 28 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugars: 12 grams
Protein: 8 grams

As soon as I opened the wrapper, I could smell the peppermint essence wafting up - a good sign. The bar itself has a white coating that's very minty. The thicker, chocolate soy crisp layer is standard - a little sweet, a little minty but also a little dry. I also thought I tasted nuts, but it might have been the organic toasted oats or soybeans - whatever it was, I liked the contrast it gave to the soy crisps. I'm not sure why this is referred to as a "stick" when it's more like a bar - it's not long and thin, but rectangular and thick. At first I thought that this bar was just okay, but the more of it that I had, the more I liked it.

Each 48 gram Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick provides 180 calories, 5 grams of total fat, half of which is saturated fat (8% and 13% of the daily value), 8 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber (16% of the daily value) and 12 grams. Less calories, more fiber but same amount of protein and sugars are the Clif Mojo All Natural Mountain Mix Trail Mix Bar (Review).

The ingredients list is quite lengthy, although props for the 70% organic, but really - LunaPro ® (Cocoa Soy Rice Crisps [Soy Protein Isolate, Organic Rice Flour, Organic Alkalized Cocoa, Alkalized Cocoa], Organic Toasted Oats [Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Dried Cane Syrup], Organic Roasted Soybeans, Organic Soy Flour, Organic Flaxmeal), Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Coating (Organic Dried Cane Syrup, Palm Kernel Oil, Organic Palm Kernel Oil, Organic Soy Flour, Organic Soy Lecithin, Organic Vanilla), Inulin (Chicory Extract), Vegetable Glycerin, Chocolate Cookies (Organic Oat Flour, Organic Dried Cane Syrup, Sunflower Oil, Cocoa, Unsweetened Chocolate, Salt, Baking Soda, Soy Lecithin), Organic Cocoa, Organic Unsweetened Chocolate, Organic Sunflower Oil, Peppermint Candy (Dried Cane Syrup, Colored with Beet Powder, Natural Flavors, Carnauba Wax), Natural Flavors, Sea Salt. (Thankfully the ingredients list is online so I could copy and paste - I would have hated to have to type all that out).

I bought the all natural Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick for $1.19 at my local grocery store, and it's a pretty good option to satisfy a sweet craving as there is a decent amount of fiber and protein.

Strawberry Banana-Graham Frozen Treat with Chocolate Morsels

I freaking LOVE this!!! I’m on a roll with the creation of delectable recipes for you to chomp on. So sharpen the claws of your teeth and get ready to delight in the Strawberry Banana-Graham Frozen Treat with Chocolate Morsels.

It’s a non-threat to your waistline. Unless, of course, you’re super greedy and eat 35 mega-servings or some other ridiculous amount.

Ingredients (makes up to 4 servings)

1 ripe banana, sliced into pieces (the riper your fruit, the sweeter your final creation will be)5-6 strawberries, sliced1-4 graham cracker sheets (for 1-4 people served)1 packet Stevia (optional)Chocolate chip morsels (optional, but fun)

1. Place fresh, sliced bananas and strawberries onto plastic wrap atop a plate.

2. Then place second layer of plastic wrap to cover completely.

3. Place plate in freezer to freeze fruit until frozen (duh). Several hours or overnight if desired.

4. Add frozen fruit slices to blender with 1/2 packet of Stevia (optional) and blenderize on “crush ice” setting. The mixture will look granulated.

5. Scoop entire mixture into bowl, then transfer your desired portion onto one-half of a graham cracker.

6. Then top with other graham-half to create a sammich.

7. Press chocolate morsels onto all 4 sides of your treat and enjoy immediately.

8. Or! Scoop the mixture into a cup, sprinkle morsels and use graham crackers as edible spoons.

Just like real ice cream, your frozen treat will begin to “melt” if not eaten right away, so please active your chomping jaws in a timely fashion for the most satisfying results.

This thing is sooo versatile. Make it for anytime snacking, kids’ treats, party treats, etc, etc. It goes on and on. It’s truly one helluva tasty flavor combination. ENJOY!

Chocolate Protein Cake (guest post).

I’ve been on this healthier-me quest for almost five years now, but I only recently tumbled to the miracle that is the Chocolate Protein Cake (and some people say Pinterest is just a big time suck).

When I think of how many mornings I could have had chocolate cake for breakfast…well, it doesn’t help to dwell on the past.

Instead I’ll pass along my version of the Chocolate Protein Cake, only slightly adapted from the one I found on Foods of April , just in case I’m not the only one on the planet who’s late to the protein cake party.

Ingredients:
15 grams protein powder (This is one scoop of GNC unsweetened soy protein isolate; your powder & scoop size may vary.)
1 tbsp 100% cocoa powder (I use dark chocolate–swoon)
1/4 tsp baking powder
2 packets stevia (or sweetener of choice–it does need it if you’re using unsweetened protein powder. Trust me.)
1 tbsp pure pumpkin or applesauce
  3 tbsp. Egg Beaters Whites
dash of cinnamon
drop or two vanilla

Stir it all together in a microwaveable mug or small bowl and zap it for 60-70 seconds, depending on your microwave.

Then carefully, because it’s H-O-T!, remove it from the microwave and loosen the edges with a knife or spoon before upending the cup and plopping the cake onto your plate or, um, your paper towel/aluminum foil if you’re cooking to go.

Don’t worry if it looks a little, ahem, ugly, it’s CAKE.

In addition to its yummiliciousness, what makes this cake such a perfect start to the morning is that it’s packed with protein (almost 20g!) and has only 115 calories with the brands I use.

This means that you can “frost” it with a healthy scoop of Greek yogurt, some chia seed pudding, or a tablespoon (or two) of nut butter without breaking the calorie bank. Cake for breakfast can be healthy. Who knew?!

Cammy hopped off the diet-go-round five years ago and never went back. Instead, she focused on making small, sustainable changes over time, found joy (and cupcakes) in small victories, and lost 100 pounds along the way. She blogs at The Tippy Toe Diet and Serentipity.

Kellogg’s Krave Cereal: If I haven’t told you in a while, I’m still a cereal whore deep down in my soul. Krave is on the of the newest thangs on the cereal block, and I gotta admit, I like it lots. Krave gives you crunchy, chocolatey, whole-grainy and light sweetness all wrapped into one. Just be sure to activate your self control, because you just might Krave the whole damn box until its gone.

Amy’s Chocolate Cake: If you happen to be hanging around the grocery checkout line this week, go on and snag yourself the January 6th issue of Woman’s World Magazine (the one with Dr. Oz on the cover). Why? Because they’re talking about treats for health-conscious peeps, featuring my greedy opinion on Amy’s Organic Chocolate Cake on page 45. I first told you about Amy’s this past September in a Taste Test, and I still think it’s delicious and totally do-able to enjoy within a sensible diet. I’m a repeat customer of this vegan, organic cake. Click the on image below to enlarge and read my Woman’s World blurb.

Happy Feet, Crawling, Notre Dame and a Cup of Hot Chocolate

Those four things pretty much defined today. It all started with a trip to the gym for bootcamp. I still have a house full of family but I snuck away for my weekly class.

Before I left, I grabbed a banana to have on the way.

When I got back I made the most amazing omelet ever!

Onion, red pepper, broccoli, bacon bits, 1 egg and a ton of egg white. Delicious! I could eat this every day.

After the late breakfast, my mom and I decided to take the kids to see Happy Feet Two. I didn’t fall asleep! A sure sign it was a half decent kids movie as I have fallen asleep in the theater at almost every kids movie in the past year. I’m not joking. I have a serious problem.

All joking aside, it was cute. If you liked the first you’ll probably like this one.

At the movie the Little Guy and I shared a large popcorn. I normally have a no large rule but I made an exception since we’d be sharing with my mom as well, but she didn’t have much.

We came home and I made lunch having fun with the Thanksgiving leftovers again.

That’s a Leftover Turkey Quesadilla with Cranberries and Gouda and it was awesome! Click here for the recipe. I’m having way too much fun coming up with fun ways to use the leftover turkey. Yes, I know I’m a freak.

The rest of the afternoon was pretty lazy but not uneventful!

Click here to see my Little Crawler!

All that excitement warranted dinner.

A little pasta, sausage and a side salad. I had seconds of the sausage and the salad.

Dessert? The last slice of Wildberry Pie.

My Mother-in-Law brings this pie from Perkins every year. It’s awesome! Once of the few pies I really enjoy.

Right now I’m watching Notre Dame get their butts kicked by Stanford next to the two biggest fans I know: The Husband and his Mom. It’s not looking good here in the 3rd quarter.

I’m a little hungry but not hungry enough to warrant a meal and to be honest, I don’t trust myself to grab something out of the pantry right now. So I’m off to make myself a nice warm glass of hot chocolate. I figure it’s a good compromise.

I’m feeling good after two days of journaling and I’m so glad some of you are doing this with me. I can already feel momentum shifting.

Ok, let me go. Notre Dame actually scored. At least it’s not a blow out!

Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix (Chocolate Cherry Blend) Review

Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix (Chocolate Cherry Blend)

The Chocolate Cherry Blend of Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix contains roasted peanuts, cherry-flavored dried cranberries, granola clusters, milk chocolate candies and coca roast almonds. As I had already tried another variety of Emerald Breakfast on the Go - the Breakfast Blend (Review) - I was already prepared NOT to try having this for breakfast on the go, and instead, it was treated as just a light after-workout snack.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 pouch (51 grams)
Calories: 240
Total Fat: 13 grams, 21%
Saturated Fat: 2.5 grams, 13%
Sodium: 80 mg, 3%
Carbohydrates: 26 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 14%
Sugars: 17 grams
Protein: 6 grams

When you think of it that way, then you don't expect it to be too filling, and indeed it wasn't. A 51 gram pouch of mostly granola, just isn't enough to satisfy anything more than a child's snacking needs - and actually, it works beautifully for that purpose. As for the taste, I loved the smoky Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds (Review), but wish there was more - and the cherry-flavored cranberries were like sweet chewy nuggets, which provided a nice contrast to all the crunchiness of the granola and nuts (I have no clue why they didn't just call this variety "Chocolate Cranberry Blend" and forget all this cherry-flavored stuff). I also liked that the granola were in big clusters, which meant you could get a little bit of everything in a mouthful.

Coupons.com

Each 51 gram pouch of Chocolate Cherry Blend of Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix provides 240 calories from 13 grams of total fat (21% of the daily value), 2.5 grams of which is saturated (13% of the DV), 3 grams of fiber (14% of the DV), 6 grams of protein and 17 grams of sugars. That's 8 grams less sugar than the Breakfast Blend (Review), as well as 2x the protein, but also 5 grams more total fat and 30 more calories.

The ingredients list is not all-natural - there is the artificial sweetener acesulfame K, as well as a number of artificial colors. I purchased a box with 6 pouches for $3.18, and don't think I would buy this again - too much total fat for such a small snack, plus I'm not wowed by the ingredients list, but really, for 240 calories, I could find a much more filling snack.

Tasting! Amy’s Organic Vegan Chocolate Cake (shaa-POW!!)

“me thinks I hear angelic creatures singing hallelujah”

My food trap has been to the heavens and returned back savoring the flavors. Ohhh, my dear Amy’s Organic Vegan Chocolate Cake.  How do I salivate over thee? Let me count the ways….

You’re vegan, which I don’t require. But when a vegan food tastes just like “normal” food, I can appreciate that.I’m mesmerized that a cake that has no milk or eggs in it (no dairy at all) can taste even better than other cakes I’ve gnawed on.Your other ingredients are so simplistic, yet your taste triumphs over other cakes who think they’re all that and a bag-o chocolate chips. You have no GMO’s, no preservatives and you’re even gluten free for the peoples who need it. Nuff’ said there.

If you did a blindfolded taste test, there’s probably no real way you’d link Amy’s to a cake outta the box from the freezer section. No freaking way. I swear it tastes better than chocolate cakes I’ve paid absurd money for at the bakery. Just thaw it out and serve.

It’s the moistness that gets ya. And the authentic, high-end organic cocoa ingredient. I’m shaking my head from being mesmerized. Surely Amy’s is da bomb. You could cut this cake into mini squares, stick some toothpicks in it, and serve it at a fancy party. Or you could skip paying bakery money for a small birthday cake celebration – just stick some candles in the Amy’s Cake instead. But don’t forget the ultimate… put a slice of Amy’s on a plate and go couch-azz as you savor the flavor.

And get this: It’s only 170 calories and 16 grams of sugar for one slice. How’d the hell they do that? If you don’t go buy yourself some Amy’s Chocolate Cake, you are totally missing out.

Now excuse me, I’m about  to re-enter the third realm of heaven. Time for another slice of Amy’s. For further research testing, of course.

REACTIONS FROM THE TASTE TEST CREW

Health-hater Husband: Good, but a slight after taste.

Greedy Kid #1: Oh my gosh. How do they get it to be so moist?

Greedy Kid #2: Tastes like there’s real cocoa in it.

Greedy Kid #3: You know I don’t like chocolate. I don’t want it.

Greedy Baby: (there was no comment, just a lot of chewing)

Yum UP! to: The Amy’s line of food products. I continue to be impressed.

Yuck Down: Only getting one birthday cake per year. No fair.

Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-Fat Yogurt Review

Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-fat Yogurt

Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-Fat Yogurt is described on their website as, "Smooth, rich white chocolate yogurt with a tangy burst of ripe raspberry. Perfect for anytime you're in the mood for a sweet treat."

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 cup (170 grams)
Calories: 100
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 120 mg, 5%
Carbohydrates: 16 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugars:11 grams
Protein: 6 grams

When I first tasted this yogurt I thought to myself that there was a hint of something there that I just couldn't identify, but it seemed so familiar. Then I looked at the container and remember that this was not just plain raspberry - but white chocolate raspberry - and that's when I realized that I was getting a nice hint of chocolate along with the berry bits - not a tangy burst of ripe raspberry as the description from the website mentions, but something more sweet and subtle. Overall I liked the delicate, well balanced flavors in this yogurt.

Each 6 ounce container of Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-fat Yogurt provides 100 calories, no fat, 120 mg sodium (5% of the DV), 3 grams of fiber, 11 grams of sugars and 6 grams of protein. The sweeteners used are crystalline fructose and sucralose.

Coupons.com

The ingredient list includes, "skim milk, raspberry puree, crystalline fructose, corn starch-modified, inulin fiber, whey protein concentrate, Kosher gelatin, natural white chocolate raspberry flavor, sucralose, citric acid, cinnamon, nutmeg, tricalcium phosphate, potassium sorbate (to maintain freshness), red 40, blue 1, sodium citrate, vitamin A Palmitate and Vitamin D3. Also contains: L. Acidophilus and Bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium SP. and S. Thermophilus."

I bought the 6 ounce container at my local grocery store on sale for $0.50 and although I prefer Weight Watchers Apple Pie a la Mode Non-fat Yogurt, I would still buy this again because it's pretty good - and variety is the spice of life.

Stonyfield Organic Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar (After Dark Chocolate) Review

Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar

There are days when I absolutely love writing food product reviews - when I get to sample delicious, tasty treats such as Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bars ... and of course, there are the days when the kids love that I write about food products like these, because they are the ones who get to finish off the box!

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (70 grams)
Calories: 170 calories
Total Fat: 8 grams, 12%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram, 5%
Sodium: 35 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 21 grams
Fiber: 1 gram, 4%
Sugars: 18 grams
Protein: 3 grams

You should know from our Stonyfield Farm reviews, that they make some of the best tasting organic yogurt around! And these frozen yogurt bars continue that tradition. They are so rich and creamy; so delicious - like lick your lips to make sure you get every crumb good! It actually tastes similar to ice cream, though after a few bites, the fro-yo taste comes out a little bit more. There's a nice, subtle dark chocolately flavor and the coating is absolutely perfect - in taste and it's crispy crunchy texture. It's hard to stop at one, but you better because it really is a perfect sized snack and you're only being greedy if you go back for more.

Coupons.com

Each 70 gram Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar provides 170 calories, 8 grams of total fat (8% of the daily value), 1 gram of which is saturated (5% of the DV), 18 grams of sugars, 1 gram of fiber and 3 grams of protein. The bars are organic and the ingredients list is not too long and complex.

I'm actually not sure how much these bars cost since I was sent samples to review, and I haven't seen them in my neighborhood stores yet - anyone know the price? I really like this as a summertime treat - a sweet tooth fix that won't hurt your diet too badly, but also satisfy your craving. Of course, Weight Watchers Giant Chocolate Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Bar is still my go to - will a little less calories, fat & sugar, but the Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar has less ... complicated ingredients.

Chocolate Honey Cakes! (My Toast Ambassador Contest Entry)

Why slave in the kitchen with mixing bowls, a hot oven, impatient baking times and a ton of dirty dishes when you can make “cake” in about 5 minutes from prep time to chewing time with minimal kitchen duty. This is a Toast-Off, baby!

Chocolate Honey Cakes is my recipe contest entry.

The I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!® peeps invited me to participate in their Toast-Off to become their Toast Ambassador and score all the winner’s swag that comes with it, including $5,000 cash [insert jaw drop to floor here]! Now let your eyeballs read on to find out why I chose this recipe for the Toast-Off and learn how to “bake” it yourself.

The Inside Story Behind Chocolate Honey Cakes

I struggle in the kitchen. This is no secret, yet I have no shame in admitting my hungry shortcomings.

But wait!

Every once in a while when the pigs are outside flying, I hit a recipe home run that makes me want to back twist and belly flip from one end of the kitchen to the other (but please, people, do not try that at home).

Cake has always been a soft spot of my greedy-in-moderation joy. I happen to be the only person I know to participate in a one woman, cake-eating competition (eh-em, which I won, of course). And as for toast? Growing up, my nickname was “Bread”, so my intrigue with loaves and toasts smathered in buttery-tasting goodness is not some mythical folklore, okay?

Chocolate Honey Cakes is my tribute to the things that I love: Cake, toasty bread and buttery-tasting goodness. But there’s one other thing that I adore. It’s the reaction of my husband and our 4 child-spawns as their dessert-craving jaws chomp down on this delectable treat. Their faces become contorted with happy joy as they savor the feast and finally compliment me on my cooking.

Whew! I’m really lovin’ it.

CHOCOLATE HONEY CAKES: THE RECIPE

Utensils/Equipment Needed: Toaster, cutting board, butter knife, Chef’s knife (or substitute butter knife), measuring spoons, serving plate, and fork(s) – to help you feed your food trap this delectable creation.

INGREDIENTS (serving size: 2)

3 slices cinnamon-raisin bread (such as Pepperidge Farms)3 teaspoons honey1.5 teaspoons I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!® Whipped and Creamy1.5 tablespoons milk chocolate morsels3 pinches cocoa powder (1 pinch = approx. 1/8 teaspoon)

DIRECTIONS

Toast bread on medium setting (please do not use “crispy-charred” toaster setting).Stack toasted slices and cut off all 4 edges using Chef’s knife or butter knife.Spread 1/2 teaspoon of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!® Whipped and Creamy onto each toasted slice. Whipped and Creamy is preferred because of its creamy, fluffy texture. It definitely enhances the complete dish.

*Now it’s time to “bake” your cake made of toasted, buttery-tastin’ bread slices (aka, the “cake layers”)

Transfer first “cake layer” to your serving plate.Sprinkle with 1 pinch of cocoa powder. Now drizzle on 1 tsp. honey.Add second cake layer and repeat process of 1 pinch cocoa powder and 1 tsp. honey.Add final cake layer. Repeat once more with 1 pinch cocoa powder and 1 tsp. honey. Finally, top with chocolate morsels.Cut into your finished cake with a fork and being to chew.

IMPORTANT NOTES

As you sprinkle the cocoa and drizzle the honey, be artistic about it – allow some of the cocoa and honey to be disbursed onto the plate itself to enhance your presentation AND for sopping the toasted bread around the plate once it’s on your fork. Mmmmm! It’s highly recommended that you build your cake layers immediately while the toast is still warm so the chocolate morsels will melt nicely on top.

Disclosure: This post was required as part of my I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!® Toast Ambassador contest entry. But contest or not, go on and make this at home so your own face can contort with happy joy, too. I’m so glad to share this recipe with you all. Enjoy!

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae Review

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae is described as, "a low-fat vanilla flavored ice cream, over a chocolate cookie crust, topped with fudge sauce, and fudge brownie chunks."

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 dessert (66 grams)
Calories: 140
Total Fat: 2.5 grams, 4%
Saturated Fat: 1.5 grams, 7%
Sodium: 70 mg, 3%
Carbohydrates: 26 grams
Fiber: < 1 gram, 3%
Sugar: 14 grams
Protein: 3 grams

From my experience with Weight Watchers Smart Ones Turtle Sundae, I knew this dessert was going to be on the small side and I would likely eat both of them. I didn't.

Yes it's small, but it's just too sweet and there's too much chocolatey business going on. The chocolate cookie crust, chocolate sauce & chocolate brownie - you have to have a serious sweet tooth to really enjoy this - and eat more than 1 at a time ... forget about it! Even the sweet addict of the house - the 10 year old - said this was too sweet for him.

Coupons.com

As I said before, a box contains 2 servings of Weight Watchers Smart Ones Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundaes, each of which provides 140 calories, 2.5 grams of total fat, 1.5 grams of which is saturated (4% and 7% of the daily value), less than 1 gram of fiber, 14 grams of sugars and 3 grams of protein.

This retails for $2.50 per box, but I received samples from the company to review. I much prefer the Weight Watchers Smart Ones Turtle Sundae, but even that is just so-so.

Slim Fast Chocolate Mint Snack Bar Review

Slim Fast Chocolate Mint Snack Bar

The taste of the Slim Fast Peanut Butter Crunch Time Snack Bar was amazingly delicious, but the size left a lot to be desired. And the same thing turned out to be true for the Slim Fast Chocolate Mint Snack Bar.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 23 grams
Calories: 100
Total Fat: 3.5 grams, 4%
Saturated Fat: 2.5 grams, 12%
Sodium: 70 mg, 3%
Carbohydrates: 16 gram
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugar: 13 grams
Protein: 1 gram

Slim Fast managed to provide a bar that was deliciously chewy, yet with a slightly airy, crunchy texture. It doesn't taste too sweet, and the mint touch is genius. A slight minty taste is left in your mouth even after you're finished chewing. The only drawback I could find is with the size. This bar is a tiny 23 grams. This can do nothing more than satisfy a craving for sweets ... and even then, I wouldn't eat this bar by itself. Maybe with a big steaming mug of Celestial Seasonings Original Indian Spice TeaHouse Chai.

Each 23 gram Slim Fast Chocolate Mint Snack Bar provides 100 calories, 3.5 grams of total fat, 2.5 grams of which is saturated fat (4% and 12% of the daily value), 3 grams of fiber, 1 gram of protein, 7 grams of sugars and less than 1 gram of sugar alcohols.

The ingredients list is lengthy and starts with sugar, and includes partially hydrogenated palm oil, artificial colors, sucralose and acesulfame K.

On the packaging, Slim Fast recommends 3 "nourishing" snacks per day, meaning Fruit, Veggies or a Slim Fast 100 calorie snack bar. Now, I'm not sure I would put this in the same category as fruits or veggies (to put it mildly), and if you compare the Slim Fast Chocolate Mint Snack Bar to 3 Musketeers Mint Dark Chocolate Bar, the calories, fat & saturated fat are similar, but this Slim Fast bar has less sugar.

I received product samples of Slim Fast Snack Bars from the company, but they cost about $3.25 per box of 6. I probably would not buy this again unless I'm really craving a sweet snack, and this is a lower calorie/ sugar/ fat option than something else that I would get.

The CHOCOLATE & VICODIN blog book tour reaches the end of the line. (But you might still win a book!)

End of the line

The CHOCOLATE & VICODIN blog book tour reaches the end of the line today with its last stop. Check out the interview and review at Sheesh with The Merry, who you might remember better from Cranky Fitness. Big thanks to everyone who took part in the tour!

The blog tour has been lots of fun, and their are still a few opportunities to win a free book if you visit the posts listed in the full blog tour itinerary here. In addition to the blog tour, several other blogs have been kind enough to post reviews and host their own giveaways. You can find out more about them on this post and this post on my news blog.

Don’t forget, you might win an iPod or gift certificates to Amazon or iTunes simply by spreading the word about the book here!

I’ve got one last radio interview scheduled for tomorrow on LA’s public radio station KPCC during the Patt Morrison Program at 5:40pm EST or 2:40pm PST local time. Please note the time as it has been changed from the time I originally announced. I also want to thank Flyleaf Books in advance for letting me use their landline for the interview. They are the shiznit.

After that, the bulk of my book promotions will be done and I can catch up on all the web design work I’ve been neglecting. (Dear clients, I am so, so, so, so, so sorry.) I’m grateful for all the press and media attention the book has gotten, but talking about my headache so much has really made the headache flare up. So, I will be sorta glad to go back to my life of relative anonymity and quietly read all the nice emails chronic pain sufferers have been sending me. Those messages alone make the book worth writing.

Thank you to everyone who has helped support the book! I really appreciate it.

Chocolate & Vicodin: My Quest for Relief from the Headache that Wouldn't Go Away"Smart, unflinchingly honest, and laugh-out-loud funny."– Lisa Genova, New York Times bestselling author of Still Alice
