It’s Not Only Weight Loss Supplements That Steal Before and After Photos!

The stolen before and after photo saga continues. This time fellow blogger Renee found her before and after photos next to a testimonial on a colon cleanse site.

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 2.41.45 PM

Yup, that’s Renee and when you click on her photo you get zoomed in.

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 2.32.34 PM

The testimonial they claim she gave calls her Rene L.

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 2.31.43 PM

Her photos are still being used as of today along side others I can only assume are stolen as well.

Screen Shot 2013-10-03 at 2.32.40 PM

This is Renee’s real story…

Hey Roni! My before and after is on the Cleansing Waters Colonic website with an actual testimonial! It took me 8 months to lose 52 pounds and I did it by using Jenny Craig the first three months coupled with exercise. After that I started food journaling and continued to exercise to lose the additional 25 or so pounds. I’ve NEVER had a colonic and am appalled that my hard work is being diminished by being exploited by this site. I lost the weight in 2011 and continue to work hard and live a healthy life to maintain my weight loss. It isn’t always easy but I keep active and have run 15 half marathons, a full marathon and am running a 200-mile Ragnar relay next month. I’m also a Zumba instructor. All to stay fit and healthy. I’m appalled that this company is trying to pimp my success by saying they had a hand in it!

PLEASE read Renee’s REAL story on her site Cutie Booty Cakes.

I will continue to share stories like this in hopes that it prevents at least one person from buying the next “weight loss miracle pill” or scam. Enough is enough.

Note: If your photos have been stolen and used to promote a weight loss product or supplement, send me a message on my Facebook page with the following information and I will share your story as well.

Brain Dump After Crazy Weekend 1 of 3

I don’t think I anticipated how crazy my September was going to be. I knew it was kicking off a busy fall with school starting, soccer practice, Boy Scouts, my Mudder Schedule, and FitBloggin’ planning, but I’m only 9 days in and my head is spinning.

I can’t complain, it’s all good stuff and all of my own doing. I learned a long time ago that I’m happier and more content when busy. I just need to do a brain dump every once in a while and get all the swimming thoughts out of my head.

First, let me apologize for no Sensational Sunday post yesterday. I had all intentions of posting one but The Husband and I had a little spat in the evening and frankly, it ruined my night. We’re over it now but it really threw off the end of what really was a Sensational Sunday!

I did snap a few photos …

The kids were in rare form yesterday.

http___makeagif.com__media_9-09-2013_5hk9UA

We were having a blast while I let The Husband sleep in as I was away all day yesterday scoping out hotels in Savannah, Ga., for FitBloggin’. I dragged Jen with me and we explored as much as possible in the 2 free hours we had.

I loved it as a host city for FitBloggin’14! Fingers crossed on this one so I can move forward with planning. I’m also working with WPSiteCare on a whole new FitBloggin’ site, which is why I’ve been quiet overall on that side of things, but I hope to have some fun announcements in the next few weeks.

Anyway, after a fun morning with the kids, The Husband and I packed everyone in the car and headed to Baltimore Comic-Con.

20130909_C

We went a couple of years ago when Little Bean was just a baby — click here to see those photos – but it’s a whole new experience with a toddler.  Fun! But it’s exhausting managing an excited 8-year-old, bored 2-year-old and geek husband.

We did discover Ninjasaur, and if you have a boy between the ages of 7 and 12 I’m guessing they would be really into it.

Our spat happened right after Comic-Con and a quick grocery shopping. We have both been overwhelmed and it just came to a head. Thankfully we didn’t go to bed angry. We gave each other some space, each apologized and moved on. Love that he’s my partner through all the craziness of life.

So that pretty much sums up my weekend. This is what I have in the works…

1. I’m starting with an update on my stolen photos. They are STILL being used on Facebook and lots of people have been reaching out to me about their before-and-after photos being stolen as well. Now I’m on a mission. If you know anyone who also had this happen, share this Facebook post with them. I want to tell their REAL stories and get some press behind this. I want to make these diet companies think twice before stealing someone else’s photos.

2. In addition to a new FitBloggin’ site I’m also working on a whole new image for myself. RoniNoone.com is in serious need of an update and I want a more branded, professional image to market and promote myself as a blogger, speaker, spokesperson, and brand ambassador. I’ve been doing this long enough that it may be time to actually get a professional head shot taken! Plus, right now I feel a bit disjointed with my multiple blogs. I’m hoping a new look will be the start of bringing all of my blogging initiatives together a little more cohesively.

3. Tough Mudder this weekend! I’m traveling to St. Louis to run the Tough Mudder with Kim and her entourage! She has created a large group and I’m so excited to experience the Mudder with her.  Click here to learn a bit about Kim. I’m going to share an email she sent me later this week too. Oh! and check out her Tumblr!

4. My First CrossFit competition is next weekend! Me? freaking out? No, who would say such a thing? Oh because I AM FREAKING OUT. I don’t feel like I’m ready. I’ve been having a hard time with my “regular” workouts lately and now I’m questioning why I’m even doing this. I know it’s all just jitters. This is what happens every time I shove myself out of my comfort zone and in the end it’s always worth it. There are 20 women in my division so what’s the worst that can happen? Twentieth place. I can deal with that.

5. #WYCWYC is going strong. If you are starting to see that tag on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and am scratching your head, click here for the deets.

(OK, I just said “deets,” it’s time to go.)

I hope you had a great weekend!

NEVER Buy a Weight-Loss Product Based on Before and After Photos Again!

1174723_371790999616274_1784015450_n

Ever since I freaked out and ranted about my stolen before and after photos, I’ve been shocked at the response.

First GMA hopped on the story, then Inside Edition and now fellow weight loss success stories are asking my advice as they find their photos have been stolen as well.

Stolen photos aren’t a new thing. I’ve been battling image thieves since 2005 when I started this blog. In most situations I email the site using my photos, firmly ask them to take them down, and within 24 hours they are removed.

It happens when you share your photos online. I get it.

However, the photo-stealing thieves have been turning to Facebook more and more. They are using stolen before and afters to run some pretty aggressive ad campaigns and (thankfully?) it’s bringing more attention to this issue.

Honestly, I don’t think they realize how “social” social media really is. It was my readers who emailed to let me know my photos were plastered all over Facebook and I’m not the only one.

Meet Sunny.

Sunny

She reached out to me frustrated as the same Facebook page (from the screen shot above) who stole my images stole hers as well. Neither of us have ever used  Natural Garcinia Cambogia or Natural Green Cleanse, the supplements that particular page is peddling.

Here’s Sunny’s REAL story…

It took me about six months to lose the weight that I did to these photos and about a year to reach my goals. I did it through clean eating, exercise and having a great support system from Stephanie Keenan Fit Life group! The last photo of the pants was an innocent picture taken by my 15 year old daughter. We were going through old clothes to donate and take to the resale shop. She picked up the pair of jeans and said “Whose are these?” I said MINE! So she insisted we take a picture of how much I had lost compared to those pants. Sure anyone can buy a bigger pair of pants and claim massive weight loss but that was not the case here. It was a special moment I shared with my fitness folks and it was taken and distorted and used to promote some gimmick product. These people need to be held accountable for their actions!

I agree Sunny!!

Now meet Michelle.

Michelle

Michelle’s photos were also stolen and used on another Facebook page to promote something she didn’t use or endorse.

It took me just over a year to lose 42kgs and it was a very very long journey! I changed my diet to a Primal diet based on meat, eggs, fats, veggies, fruit, nuts and seeds, and I didn’t calorie count. I spent a year of my life immersed in the Primal/Paleo life. It wasn’t always easy but it was so worth it, I cannot emphasize enough how much my life and my health have improved. I used to suffer from Depression, Anxiety Attacks, Meniere’s Syndrome, PCOS and Migraines. I have had dramatic reduction of these symptoms and I finally feel healthy. At times I wanted to give up and just eat all my old faves and veg on the couch, but I didn’t. I was focused as if my life depended on it.

I’m angry that my photos were stolen and used to promote these weight loss scams. It feels like a complete mockery of my hard earned weight loss. I am hoping that by sharing my story that this will bring awareness to what seems to also be happening to countless others, and to highlight just how dodgy these scamming websites and Facebook pages really are. While I can appreciate the silver lining my photo being stolen; the people that have read the truth are now following my page and have been made aware of the scam. I’m thankful that a few hundred people didn’t get sucked in by this. But unfortunately I would say there are countless people that have been. There is no quick fix, no secret, no magic. If there were a pill that worked I believe Oprah would have invented it by now.

You can read more about Michelle’s story on her blog Primal Journey.

Next up, Brandi.

Brandi

Brandi’s photos have been stolen many times before (sometimes even used in print!) but most recently used to sell some weight loss product called ACE. Here’s Brandi’s REAL story.

It took me over a year to lose that weight and I’m still fine tuning myself. I go to the gym 4 days a week at 5am before my kids wake up and I get a long run in on Saturday or Sunday mornings as well. I work full time, have 2 boys, and just want other women to know that if I can do it, so can they. And they can do it with little to no help! All they’ve got to do is TRY!

I receive emails every week from readers telling me they saw my before and after pictures on another “weight loss fad” site. I even have had a few readers tell me my pictures have been printed out and posted as before and after pictures (with FALSE STATS) and have been posted at their gym in Arkansas! I live in Dallas, Texas!

Brandi blogs at MamaLaughlin.

Did you notice the common threat in Sunny, Michelle and Brandi’s stories?

All of their (and my) weight loss took TIME. They did it though diet changes and exercise. They found what worked for them and it WASN’T some pill or supplement.

I will continue to share stories like this in hopes that it prevents at least one person from buying the next “weight loss miracle pill.”

Note: If your photos have been stolen and used to promote a weight loss product or supplement, send me a message on my Facebook page with the following information:

Before and After Juicing: The Impressive Photo Reveal

before after juicing Before and After Juicing: The Impressive Photo Reveal

Need I say more? I am a changed woman. I can sense you are impressed. If this doesn’t convince you to start juicing, then I don’t know what will.

It doesn’t matter how wide my jaws are. It’s pretty much impossible shove all this into my stomachs in one sitting…

juiced veggies Before and After Juicing: The Impressive Photo Reveal

But I sure can juice it! 2 apples, 2 celery stalks, 6 carrots (say what!) and 3 large handfuls of spinach. There was so much spinach, I couldn’t get it all to fit in the pic. This coming week I’ll be juicing more kale than spinach. I’ve learned that it’s a good idea to rotate to your greens, so kale it is!

TODAY’S WORKOUT

20-pound dumbbell swingscommando push-upstouchdown jump squatstriceps superset

Circuit 2X’s through, then outdoors for 10-minutes of speed rope intervals. Plus, 2-mile stroll in the afternoon.

TODAY’S MEAL PLAN

Now excuse me while I sharpen my newly formed fangs. Juicing sure has enhanced my beauty. Don’t you agree?

Before and After Weight Loss: My Latest Progress Pictures!

a Before and After Weight Loss: My Latest Progress Pictures!

New progress pictures for ya! My weight loss and body transformation is on a roll, baby. I’ve got HUGE smiles over here. These pics are better than I could have hoped for. I’m much leaner than I was a few months ago. I made some tweaks my diet by identifying opportunities to eat cleaner, and reduced my greedy indulgences to once per week and celebratory occasions only.

2 Before and After Weight Loss: My Latest Progress Pictures!

My weight right now is 153 pounds on the dot. Several months ago I made a commitment to strength training on a consistent basis. It’s definitely accelerated my weight loss and is ushering me into the lean body shape I want. Now it’s time to go clothes shopping gain. At the moment I look like a hobo on liquid crack in my outfits. I need some smaller clothes.

c Before and After Weight Loss: My Latest Progress Pictures!

My stomach area has the signature loose-skin-and-stretch-marks look that comes from getting knocked up multiple times and birthing 4 gremlin-children. Whatevs. So getting back to those greedy indulgences… I accomplished this latest round of progress while taking Thanksgiving and Christmas head on. I enjoyed 7 larges slices of sweet potato pie on Thanksgiving weekend. And around Christmastime? There was a carb-fest featuring warm bread(s) with melted buttery goodness, a plate of fried food, a host of tasty chocolates, and that special tenderhearted moment when I inhaled of 6 slices of cake in one sitting. You know I had to gnaw on some cake. I disclose this greediness to you to show that even a few incidents of overeating can’t stop you from losing weight when clean eating and diligence with your fitness is your primary focus.

d1 Before and After Weight Loss: My Latest Progress Pictures!

And will ya look at that. My back fat is gone! Finally. In the months to come, my goal is to continue getting lean in my lower abdominal area and focus on building more muscle. So whatcha think of my progress? Not too shabby for a 40-year-old bitty with 4 kids, right?

videob4after Before and After Weight Loss: My Latest Progress Pictures!

If you’re not taking progress pictures, start right away. It can honestly be a little bit uncomfortable or even downright discouraging to snap those “before” pics, but you’ll be glad you have ‘em once you start whittling down the weight and can look back on progress pics to see how far you’ve come.

Upcoming in my next post: It’s a new workout targeting the core, so watch out for it get ready to rock those abs. BOOM!

The Day After Food Journal

Day after what? Just read my Note to Self from yesterday. It explains all.

Instead of letting one bad day turn into two, I got right back on the food journal wagon.

It all started with breakfast. Just a grapefruit and water for me.

Honestly, I STILL felt yucky from yesterday. I decided NOT to skip breakfast though. A mistake I used to make all the time after a binge day. Now I start off on the right foot and have at least some fruit.

Once Little Guy was on the bus Little Bean had his breakfast…

…and let me tell you, he ate, Like a PIG! Click here to see what he had.

For an early lunch I ate a leftover pork chop and some roasted pumpkin with cumin.

Then Little Bean and I spent the afternoon shopping with a friend. A few hours in we got hungry and decided to hit the food court. I had a veggie sub at Subway but totally forgot to snap a photo. It was on the 9-grain with provolone, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green peppers, pickles, hots, and a squirt of sweet onion teriyaki sauce. My fav!

We came home and some sample muffins were waiting for me in the mailbox. I grabbed a chocolate.

Expect a review post soon. They were pretty good!

Dinner was a chicken breast, roasted acorn squash and peas.

I decided to stay away from the potatoes I made the boys. The squash was much lighter and I can’t get them to eat it anyway.

After dinner I had another one of the sample muffins.

Surprised again! These things are good. More on them later!

That was it. No more food for me today. After dinner I got my pajamas on, brushed my teeth and closed the kitchen. I’m off to bed as I have an early date with the gym tomorrow.

I hope Monday treated you well!

Before and After Photo Evidence: Scheduling Progress Pictures is a Powerful Fitness Tool

Interesting, huh? I’m in better shape now as a mom of 4 kids than I was back then with only 3 kids. I’m looking forward to my next scheduled progress picture in January 2012.

Measuring my progress on the scale has been barely useful. I’m gaining muscle, so the damn scale is moving downward like molasses even though I’m rapidly getting leaner. Pictures, on the other hand, pretty much tell the complete story. My plan in the New Year is to snap a picture of myself every 3 months to gauge my progress.

Taking periodic photos has been more encouraging and inspiring and “I’m gonna get up today and kick my own ass” motivating than any weight loss proof I might see on the scale. The idea of knowing I have an upcoming progress photo also proves helpful at keeping excess foodstuffs out of my food trap and motivates me to keep pushing hardcore through my workouts.

…because who wants a crappy progress picture, right? The camera will back up and prove all your hard work (or lack thereof).

If you’re serious about doing things right in 2012, pull out those big ballz of yours and commit to relying less on the scale and leaning more on periodic progress pictures to stay accountable and show the world (or just yourself) that you’re no fitness slug.

Now excuse me. I be needing a glass of wine, dammit.

This is the after (guest post).

“What are you trying to get to?” asks a stranger with a sweaty, kind face and muscles of steel.

“Excuse me?” I huff, having zero idea what he is asking.

He looks confused and points at my shirt. “How much are you trying to lose?”

I stare down at my shirt emblazoned with the Skinny Emmie character that proclaims I’m “down 110+ pounds, a lifetime to go.”

Taken aback, I look at my the ground beneath the moving ARC trainer and mumble, “oh, I don’t know. I’m just trying to keep progressing.”

“Yeah, but what’s the number?” he retorts.

In my haste to satiate him enough to go away, I indecisively reply “oh, I maybe need to lose, like, 225 pounds? I don’t know.”

Sweaty gym man gave a cursory nod and a “keep on going!” and went back to his stair runs.

My attention turns back to the ARC trainer screen, numbers flashing with my speed. My legs continue to move without hesitation, their strides in sync with the beat of my iPod. My mind, however, is whirling.  Why don’t I know the number? How will I know if I’ve reached the “after?” How will people know when I’m a success story? How will I know I am a success story?

When will I be able to strut around in my “after” outfit and spout to the world that I did it – I conquered my personal Everest.

The encounter above happened a few months ago. It happens quite frequently from those who graciously give compliments and throw in the curious question, “how much have you lost NOW?”

For three months, my answer has been the same.

112.

112.

112.

It’s like letting a scratched record skip over and over – the needle jumping the same section of vinyl repeatedly until the noise becomes a part of the normal rumble of the day.  A frustrating stall that lingers as I continue to try hard every day.

I don’t fault people in asking – it comes with the territory of being a weight loss blogger. I am thankful people take an interest. My frustrations lie not with them, but with myself for not being able to answer their questions.

“What are you trying to get to?”

Under 200 pounds.

A 200 pound loss.

Fit in a size 10.

The finish line.

All of these answers have been with me through crash diets, prescription pills, maniac workouts and major bouts of depression and anxiety. Over twenty years of fighting myself to find the will to make it happen.

Now, however, those answers don’t seem right. That’s not what I’m trying to get to. None of it. It’s also not as much of a fight anymore. It just is. I just DO.  It’s been maddening to try to figure out what the right answer is. What is the “end”?

Literally as I was writing these words and giving myself quite a mental beating, this comment came through on my blog:

“What are you striving for? You aren’t going to get there. You’re already there.”

*Cue lightbulb moment*

There isn’t a beginning and an end. There is a beginning and a DOING. The messy progress between what you had called the “beginning” and looked forward to getting rid of at the “end?” THAT is the goal. Continual progress, day in and day out. Progress that isn’t always a walk in the park, but progress that you’re choosing for yourself. I have gone over 1 year choosing to work every day at honoring my body. This is repeated progress, and dare I say, my new LIFEstyle.

What if we stop trying to define our achievements in numbers and define it in the NOW? Release the striving and longing and exchange it for celebration and living.

So I ask you: What are you trying to get to?

Emmie is the weight loss blogger behind Skinny Emmie. She has lost 112 pounds so far on a journey to being happy and healthy. You can find her at http://skinnyemmie.com, Facebook, or Twitter.

Stonyfield Organic Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar (After Dark Chocolate) Review

Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar

There are days when I absolutely love writing food product reviews - when I get to sample delicious, tasty treats such as Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bars ... and of course, there are the days when the kids love that I write about food products like these, because they are the ones who get to finish off the box!

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (70 grams)
Calories: 170 calories
Total Fat: 8 grams, 12%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram, 5%
Sodium: 35 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 21 grams
Fiber: 1 gram, 4%
Sugars: 18 grams
Protein: 3 grams

You should know from our Stonyfield Farm reviews, that they make some of the best tasting organic yogurt around! And these frozen yogurt bars continue that tradition. They are so rich and creamy; so delicious - like lick your lips to make sure you get every crumb good! It actually tastes similar to ice cream, though after a few bites, the fro-yo taste comes out a little bit more. There's a nice, subtle dark chocolately flavor and the coating is absolutely perfect - in taste and it's crispy crunchy texture. It's hard to stop at one, but you better because it really is a perfect sized snack and you're only being greedy if you go back for more.

Coupons.com

Each 70 gram Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar provides 170 calories, 8 grams of total fat (8% of the daily value), 1 gram of which is saturated (5% of the DV), 18 grams of sugars, 1 gram of fiber and 3 grams of protein. The bars are organic and the ingredients list is not too long and complex.

I'm actually not sure how much these bars cost since I was sent samples to review, and I haven't seen them in my neighborhood stores yet - anyone know the price? I really like this as a summertime treat - a sweet tooth fix that won't hurt your diet too badly, but also satisfy your craving. Of course, Weight Watchers Giant Chocolate Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Bar is still my go to - will a little less calories, fat & sugar, but the Stonyfield Organic After Dark Chocolate Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt Bar has less ... complicated ingredients.

First Run After Baby!

Today started just like yesterday except I got to send the 5 year old to school! As soon as he got on the but Little Bean and I were off for our very first run. Click here to read a bit about it on Babble.

As I say, it was a rough 1 mile. I definitely lost a lot of my running stamina but it felt AWESOME to be out there and Little Bean seemed to like it too. He stayed away the whole time just chilling in the stroller.

When we got back I had breakfast…

It was the last wedge of Frittata I made on Easter morning plus a side of mango and some tea.

After breakfast I got to work on conference-y stuff. I’m neck deep in room set ups at the moment.

For lunch I made this little gem…

It’s a A Cuban-esque Sandwich. Very yummy. So yummy I think I’ll be making another tomorrow. :)

I had 3 snacks before dinner.

A banana.

Some Cheese Apple Kabobs.

Sounds strange but I’m telling you… TASTY! and fun. :)

And a leftover Spinach Cupcake

We decided to go to out dinner BUT we walked there.

It was awesome out!

For dinner the family split some edamame.

I had some miso soup

and brown rice sushi

Now I’m ready for bed!

Oh! and I did just grab a yogurt cup while writing this up. ;)

Plastic Surgery after Extreme <b>Weight Loss</b> | <b>Weight Loss</b> Helps

Plastic Surgery after Extreme Weight Loss

Article by Daniel Beasley

Many people who are obese strive to lose the extra weight, only to be disappointed after the weight is lost. They are disappointed because after their weight loss surgery or natural weight loss, they have excess skin. That skin causes them to be unable to see the results they got from the weight loss.

Because of that, many people are choosing to go to a plastic surgeon for body contouring. When they choose this method for excess skin removal, they are able to get a comprehensive solution to the sagging and excess skin that is on their body.

With body contouring, a plastic surgeon will do two things. First, the surgeon will work to improve the tissue that supports fat and skin. Often after large weight loss, that tissue is lumpy, so the surgeon will work to smooth it back out.

Then, the surgeon will go through a surgical process for excess skin removal. The process will include a lower body lift, arm lift, and thigh lift.

There are some things patients must keep in mind before they go through body contouring surgery for excess skin removal. They need to make sure their weight is stable, as they do not want to continue to lose weight after the surgery as that could cause excess skin to reappear.

The right candidate will also not go through a weight gain, as that can reduce the effects of body contouring surgery. Also, good candidates are healthy and will be able to recover from the surgery in a short period of time.

Many people find that weight loss surgery or natural weight loss is not enough in the quest for the body they want. Because of that, people are using plastic surgeons for excess skin removal so they can have pride in their bodies. For most, body contouring is the last step needed in order to get the body they want.

Weight Loss after lymph node removal?

In December of 2005, I had a benign lymph node on my neck, behind my ear, removed.

I had an acquaintance who also had a lymphadenectomy, and she lost a lot of weight, too.

I can’t find anything online, but I’m wondering if weight loss is common after a lymphadenectomy.
