Parting is such sweet, 100% egg white, sorrow.

Ahh people.  The time hath come to bid Egg Beaters 100% Egg Whites a fond fond farewell.

Up in herre I mean.

And, even being a misfit who turns down 76.77% of brand-partnership opportunities because they are *not* an organic fit, this has been one of my fave.partnerships.ever.

I celebrated when they picked me because I’d been chasing them for eons always been interested in partnering with them.

Id eaten them for years.  They work for me.

My body thrives on protein (yours may too!*)I feel better, more energetic, and less prone to mood swings.

I adore how easy Egg Beaters 100% egg whites are to slip into my meals, snacks & car (when the Tornado was little the number of eggs I broke trying to carry *her* and my groceries are immeasurable).

All that said, Im celebrating one.big.thing. even as this brand partnership comes to a close:

It has reminded me yet again how when we practice what we preach–there’s nary a need to say a word.

Ren Man now makes a Meal in a Mug for breakfast each morning and to say this is a ginormous change for the healthy would be a dramatic understatement.

The Tornado had *already* noticed Egg Beaters were my fave food (as per the picture below):

(upper-right corner)

And apparently had a ‘moment’ with her teacher over my Mothers Day card when she insisted I liked my eggs from a “box” and they did NOT have the yellow middle:

(Please dont tell Tornado what they look like.)

I also adore how many stranger-friends now associate me with Egg Beaters.  Reason #19478347 why I never align with a brand I do not fully embrace:

I loved. I loved.

Blather blather love love aside—I wanted to take a moment during this last post and share with you something WE are loving right now:

"The Poach Pod"

(the pod was a gift but Id imagine a google-search would turn up the source? Id also imagine if youre a true “cook” you already know how to poach without needing said pod)

We’ve been poaching the EB whites non-stop around here because it’s something the Tornado can do (practically) by herself and also something she can get utterly creative with.

She’s tried adding cheese, crumbled sausage, veggies, salsa & a few other items (fruit alert! fruit alert!) which didnt go over so well in her mouth.

She pours in the E.B.Whites...

Our breakfast, snack, lunch, whatevers is ready to be topped served:

Voila.

And that’s where we are on this Wednesday.

Saying farewell, poaching up a storm, and remembering when we practice what we preach theres nary a need to say a word.

And you?

Have you noticed, when you live authentically & act in accordance to your mission/beliefs, people around you cant help but follow?

Have you any tips for the Tornado for her poach-toppings?

Please to hit us up in the comments below.

*Studies are increasingly showing it is PROTEIN which serves to keep us awake & fight the mid-day slump not sugars.

This post is sponsored by Egg Beaters 100% egg whites. As always the rest of the mishegas is all my own.

Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-Fat Yogurt Review

Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-fat Yogurt

Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-Fat Yogurt is described on their website as, "Smooth, rich white chocolate yogurt with a tangy burst of ripe raspberry. Perfect for anytime you're in the mood for a sweet treat."

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 cup (170 grams)
Calories: 100
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 120 mg, 5%
Carbohydrates: 16 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugars:11 grams
Protein: 6 grams

When I first tasted this yogurt I thought to myself that there was a hint of something there that I just couldn't identify, but it seemed so familiar. Then I looked at the container and remember that this was not just plain raspberry - but white chocolate raspberry - and that's when I realized that I was getting a nice hint of chocolate along with the berry bits - not a tangy burst of ripe raspberry as the description from the website mentions, but something more sweet and subtle. Overall I liked the delicate, well balanced flavors in this yogurt.

Each 6 ounce container of Weight Watchers White Chocolate Raspberry Non-fat Yogurt provides 100 calories, no fat, 120 mg sodium (5% of the DV), 3 grams of fiber, 11 grams of sugars and 6 grams of protein. The sweeteners used are crystalline fructose and sucralose.

Coupons.com

The ingredient list includes, "skim milk, raspberry puree, crystalline fructose, corn starch-modified, inulin fiber, whey protein concentrate, Kosher gelatin, natural white chocolate raspberry flavor, sucralose, citric acid, cinnamon, nutmeg, tricalcium phosphate, potassium sorbate (to maintain freshness), red 40, blue 1, sodium citrate, vitamin A Palmitate and Vitamin D3. Also contains: L. Acidophilus and Bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium SP. and S. Thermophilus."

I bought the 6 ounce container at my local grocery store on sale for $0.50 and although I prefer Weight Watchers Apple Pie a la Mode Non-fat Yogurt, I would still buy this again because it's pretty good - and variety is the spice of life.

Bimbo Whole Grain White Bread Review

bimbowholegrainwhitebread.jpg

The actual name of the product on the bag is Bimbo Made With Whole Grain White Bread - and the "made with" type is much smaller than the rest of the product name. Across the front of the packaging, along with "Say Beembo" is "Made with Whole Grains, no artificial colors or flavors, no high fructose corn syrup, and good source of calcium, vitamins A, D & E."

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 2 sliced (52 grams)
Calories: 130
Total Fat: 1.5 grams, 2%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 240 mg, 10%
Carbohydrates: 26 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 8%
Sugars: 4 grams
Protein: 5 grams

You might be tempted to think "whole wheat flour" would be the 1st ingredient - but alas, you would be wrong. Whole white wheat is the 3rd ingredient after enriched wheat flour and water, and there is also only 2 grams of fiber. In my mind, this pretty much makes it white bread - or at least more similar to white bread than it is to whole wheat bread.

Not surprisingly, the taste and texture is also similar to white bread - i.e. soft, fluffy and deelightfully delicious. Perfect for all kinds of SandwichYums (see how I naturally inserted a plug for our new sandwichy sister website there - hehe)!

Coupons.com

Each serving of 2 slices of Bimbo Whole Grain White Bread provides 130 calories from 1.5 grams of total fat (2% of the daily value), no saturated fat, 240 mg sodium (10% of the DV), 2 grams of fiber (8% of the DV), 4 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein. The ingredients list includes, "enriched wheat flour (flour, malted barley flour, reduced iron, niacin, thiamin mononitrate (vitamin B1), riboflavin (B2), folic acid), water, whole white wheat flour, sugar, yeast, wheat gluten, salt, soybean oil, enrichment (calcium sulfate, vitamin E acetate, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D3), calcium propionate (preservative), datem, calcium sulfate, grain vinegar, monoglycerides, citric acid, soy lecithin, azodicarbamide."

I purchased this bread on sale for $2.49 and yes it made some really good sandwiches, but don't buy this thinking it's a close cousin of wheat bread. The store brand white bread in my supermarket costs $1.00 - and I would probably buy that over this (even though it uses HFCS). Otherwise, I prefer the hearty texture and higher fiber content of wheat bread like, Arnold Healthy Multi-Grain Bread.

Cut the white stuff, add some wheat germ

You’ve heard me say it a million times before, and you’ll hear me say it a million times again -- for healthy nutrition, cut out the “white stuff.” That means white flour, sugar, pasta, bread and processed baked goods. They affect your blood sugar and insulin too quickly, and you don’t want an excess of either in your bloodstream. Unlike their browner, whole grain counterparts, these foods lack antioxidants and fiber, which is good for your digestion and can help prevent colorectal cancer. In fact, they don’t offer much of anything, other than calories. The quality of your calories is as important as the quantity, so choose wisely.

One of my favorite things to add to recipes to boost a meal’s anti-aging, health-promoting value is wheat germ, one highly nutritious part of a whole grain wheat kernel. Broken down, a wheat kernel is:
1. Endosperm: 83 percent of the kernel is composed of this part, the main ingredient in regular processed flour. Many nutrients are left behind when only the endosperm is extracted.
2. Bran: 14 percent of the kernel is composed of bran.
3. Germ: Only 3 percent of the kernel is the germ, that part of the kernel that will sprout and grow into a new plant.
The germ is a highly concentrated source of nutrients including B vitamins (niacin, thiamin, riboflavin and folate), vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, iron and zinc. It is also a good source of chromium, which helps your body use sugar properly.

Wheat germ comes in toasted or untoasted versions and can be found at most grocery stores. Wheat germ can be sprinkled over fruit, cereal and oatmeal or added to many casseroles and savory dishes. I like to add wheat germ to many breakfast foods, including my Toasted Oatcakes with Berry Confetti.

Some of you may have heard of Fermented Wheat Germ Extract (WGE). This is very different than toasted or untoasted wheat germ. It is a dietary supplement promoted as a cancer treatment and does not have the same nutritional profile as wheat germ. It should only be taken under supervision from a medical doctor.

StarKist Solid White Albacore Tuna in Water Review

StarKist Solid White Albacore Tuna in Water

If I could eat tuna for lunch everyday, I would. But fear of mercury poisoning means I have to limit my tuna intake to 2-3x a week - and not every week. After many moons of eating canned tuna, I have come to be partial to a brand or two, and one of my favorites brands to buy is StarKist Solid White Albacore Tuna in Water.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 2 ounces (drained)
Calories: 70
Total Fat: 2 grams, 3%
Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams, 2%
Sodium: 190 mg, 8%
Carbohydrates: 0 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugar: 0 grams
Protein: 13 grams

A serving size, which is about 2 ounces drained from a 5 ounce can, provides 70 calories, 2 grams of total fat, which includes 0.5 grams of saturated fat (3% and 2% of the daily value), 190 mg sodium (8% of the DV), no carbohydrates and 13 grams of protein!

I like Starkist because when I drain the water - I just press the lid down after I've cut it open - it's always chunky, not soft and mushy. Tuna tastes like .. tuna, but what makes it delicious is what you add to it. I always add a little low-fat mayonnaise and Pace Picante Medium Sauce - I use this in everything!

The ingredients in StarKist Solid White Albacore Tuna in Water are white tuna, water, vegetable broth, salt, pyrophosphate. I'm always buying this, so the price varies a lot, but this time if was on sale for $0.89 - usually it's about $1.00.

As I said before, StarKist Solid White Albacore Tuna in Water is one of my favorite foods to have for lunch. Plus 13 grams of protein and 70 calories - I love it!

Clif White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Bar

Clif Bars

I think I have found the holy grail of nutrition-bar-turned-candy, and that is Clif Bar White Chocolate Macadamia Nut. This bar is sweet like white chocolate, with a nice nutty crunch from the macadamia nuts and soy butter, and the chewiness comes from the date paste (although the taste of dates is not too over the top - take note, Larabar).

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (68 grams)
Calories: 240
Total Fat: 7 grams, 11%
Saturated Fat: 1.5 grams, 8%
Sodium: 160 mg, 7%
Carbohydrates: 41 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugars: 21 grams
Protein: 9 grams

I was in absolute heaven when I ate this bar, and the taste alone made it well worth the $1.59 spent on it. The nutrition facts - I knew from trying other Clif Bars - wouldn't be as pleasing. Each 68 gram Clif White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Bar provides 240 calories, 7 grams of otal fat, 1.5 grams of which is saturated, 7% of the daily value for sodium (160 mg), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 21 grams of sugars and 9 grams of protein. The ingredients, like all the other Clif Bars are all natural and 70% organic - and starts with organic brown rice syrup - hello sugars!

This Clif Bar is pretty hefty, so try to snack on it over a long period of time. I've said it before and I'll say it again, although the taste of this bar is phenomenal, I only eat these when I'm working out really hard - long runs or cycling. Otherwise, it's just a protein rich candy bar.

And since this bar tastes amazing, it's my new favorite flavor Clif Bar. What's your favorite Clif Bar?!
