It’s Official. I’m a Klutz.

Yup. That’s me after tonight’s 5 mile run. I was literally 200 meters from the house when I lost my footing, AGAIN! This just happened a few weeks ago. I don’t know what’s up with me and the falling all of a sudden. I’m thinking it’s either the darkness (although this was a well lit area) or my shoes??

I don’t know but I’m hurting. Shoulder, knee, ear, face. ugh.

Anyway, I was planning on posting this…

Little Guy’s first day of school is tomorrow and this is his lunch. Last year I talked about adding a feature where I would post some of his lunches. I’m still planning on doing so, just not ready yet. I hope to have a new tab over over on GreenLiteBites simply called School Lunch Ideas, in the next few days. (UPDATE: It’s up! Please click here to see my new School Lunch Ideas page!) In the mean time, I’ll intermix them over here.

Tomorrows lunch:

whole Wheat Ritz with the Laughing Cow Cheese and turkey pepperoni,a handful of pistachios, red pepper stripes, a mango cubed, 2 duplex cookies, and water.

He was happy and helped make it. :)

In other news, I posted a new fun sandwich idea on GreenLiteBites using plums and have two new posts on Babies First Year. One is a VERY cute (if I do say so myself) slide show of Little Bean and the other is about poop. Yes, poop. Hey, I’m a Mom to a kid in diapers. It was bound to come up. ;)

Kept my food journal on twitter today.

Remembering a life cut short.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.

This month (like the other 11) I’ll be thinking a great deal about my friend Sue who passed away only two months after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

The picture above is from her 50th birthday party.

A surprise party which even at the time seemed a fantastically, perfectly over-the-top celebration of my friend’s 50 years.

Ive spent lots of time pondering how I could honor Sue this month & feeling grateful her family chose to honor her that day and *daily* while she was here with us.

Sue was passionate about helping others.

She was instrumental in both helping me discover my voice and celebrating with me all the small successes along the way.

Sue ‘got’ me.

She understood my tattooed, tutu’d approach to life might LOOK different than hers to outsiders, but underneath it all we were remarkably, remarkably alike.

(A woman I did not know once commented to a woman I did how Sue & I made a motley crue.  That phrasing still inexplicably makes me giggle.)

I feel the loss of her daily and more than ever last week as life here changed so dramatically.

I longed for the dose of tough-love & lovelove I knew Sue would have given me.

My friend Sue’s mantra & life-mission was reminding people that every step matters.

Every movement toward achieving our goals is a step that needs to be both recognized and celebrated.

Big (like the Kinder) or seemingly small (like a few things I have planned this weekend).

That’s how Ive decided to celebrate my friend during Ovarian Cancer Awareness month & I demand lovingly ask you join me.

A two-fold assignment request:

Make time this month to STOP, reflect, identify a recent success and *celebrate* you. No matter how seemingly insignificant MAKE the time to recognize a step you’ve taken toward creating the life you desire.Make time this month to remind someone else of their successes. Email, call, tweet, blog-comment, visit & let someone know a way you’ve noticed she’s been successful lately.  It may seem silly (hell it may even feel incredibly awkward) but I guarantee you’ll make her day & perhaps, as Sue did for me, propel her onward toward continued success.

And that’s where I leave you on this first day of Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.

No questions to spark your comments.

No please to hit us all up below.

Two simple requests & an urging to git out there and LIVE! on your way.

I know Im preaching to the proverbial choir here, but life is short, People.

Today truly is a gift and indeed why it’s called the present.

Our big ole motley crew walking/jogging/running last weekend in memory of our Sue.

Zensah compression sleeve giveaway.

(no. this picture was not posed. yes. it does frighten me a little.)

After our email exchange Zensah was generous enough to offer to send me a pair of the compression sleeves to review*

After my experience wearing them I decided I must spread the love and PURCHASE a pair for one of you.

But Im getting ahead of myself.

My Sleeve’periences: bulleted for your reading pleasure.

What did I like about the Zensah compression sleeves?

The color.  How they looked.  We’ve established ad nauseam I have a penchant for the quirky.  We’ve also established the Tornado has a penchant for the pink.  She picked the color. I happily donned.

The fact they were sleeves not socks.   I may not be running in the sleeves now, but I like the option to use my own running socks with them later.  I’m a chafer. They held me.  I really liked the feeling of the sleeves.  I discovered Kinesio tape during Airrosti & it was almost the same sensation.  As I wore them around (all day. post run.)  it felt as though I were getting a secret massage while I ambled about town & worked.

I wasnt sore.  Thanks to the sleeves? Placebo effect? Wouldn’t have happened anyone? Who can say.  The upside is walking around ‘held’ all day didnt produce and weirdass aches & pains which these days would not have surprised me.They didnt get sweaty!  The website states the sleeves are made with Zensah Fabric which has silver helping to regulate skin temperature and fight bacteria.  It’s hothothot in Texas right now & these still breathed quite well.I felt hardcore.  Oh People I realize this is mildly…pathetic? misfit’y? of me to even include—but include I shall.  I adored walking around with the sleeves hidden under my clothing as if I were some sort of a sleeve’y super-heroine.  I felt hardcore. I felt badass. I felt like a runner.

What DIDNT I like about the Zensah compression sleeves?

Nothing.  I could say the price, yet at 40.00 they seem almost a bargain.  I came up empty in this category which lead me to decide…

I adored the sleeves so much I want to pay it forward and buy a pair for one of you.

You USA & Canada-types can be entered to win for the lowlow cost of a comment below.

How would you use your compression sleeves if you won? During your run? Only for recovery? Whilst ambling about town?

(winner announced 9.6.11)

**FTC my sleeves were free.  The rambles rants and posing as a hardcore runner-stuff is all my own.

Fitness Romance Saga: Dirty Little Secrets

(If you’re new to the Saga, follow it from the beginning.)

Back inside Darla and Tom’s apartment, where nosy neighbors could no longer get a peep-hole view into the hallway of their domestic woes, the medics did a patch-me-up job on Tom’s bloody leg. No ambulance ride necessary. No stitches required. Officer Janssen was just about done questioning Darla on the events of the evening to decide who might potentially be cuffed and taken down to the station. But after 15 minutes of talking to the couple, and especially considering the disheveled state of the apartment (broken glass, an overturned chair, and plate of food smashed onto the wall), Officer Janssen was still suspicious.

“Ma’am, are you sure you weren’t assaulted or injured in any way by your husband this evening?”

“What the hell else do you want me to say?” said Darla. “It’s just like my husband told it to you. I’ve been drinking. I got a little loud — we both did. I knocked the stupid lamp over and it cut his leg. Am I under arrest unless I apologize to the bastard? I would have made it up to him if you cops hadn’t shown up.”

In Darla’s sarcasm, she made close eye contact with Janssen and gestured to insinuate she was going to flash her breasts at him, but then quickly turned to face Tom before exposing herself and jiggling her boobs from side to side with Girl’s Gone Wild fanfare (Officer Janssen had a few of those DVD’s back at his house).

“Ma’am, please cover yourself now!” Janssen spoke with firm authority. Tom scrambled to cover Darla’s silicone implanted boobs by forcing her hands off of her shirt while simultaneously making a plea to Officer Janssen.

“Sir, my wife has no physical injuries and she’s obviously not pressing charges for anything I’ve done – as if she’d have a reason to?” Tom spoke in a calm voice. Dealing with Darla’s games and self destructive issues gave him plenty of practice in how to calm his temper that was famous for getting him into trouble. He was also getting very good at covering up Darla’s pill-popping problems.

“Can’t we just say our goodnights now? Me and the wife will calm it down. We’re really sorry about the noise.”

Darla let out an obnoxious burst of loud laughter, plopped backwards onto the edge of the couch, then slipped off and then fell on her ass in a real life version of that famous texting lingo, “ROFLMAO” (Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off). Both Tom and Janssen ignored Darla.

“Sir, I’m going to ask you to leave the premises for the evening so your wife can sleep off the alcohol without causing anymore disturbances tonight. It’s either that or she can sleep it off downtown. Do you have somewhere you can go?”

“You’ve gotta be kidding me? Tell me you’re joking.” Now Tom was pissed off.

“No, sir. Pack a quick bag if you have to. I’ll wait, but make it fast.”

“Fine. I’m outta here then. And f-ck you, Darla!” Tom’s “f-ck you” came out with such anger and force, that spit flew out of his mouth. A visible vein began to swell on the side of his head near his temple. He grabbed his keys and stormed out of the apartment. But not too stormy, because his leg still hurts and he’s gotta watch his temper, ya know. He drove off in his Acura TL, wanting to floor it past the parked cop car, but he knew better than that.

Darla was all alone now, and not one bit upset that Tom was forced out for the night. She liked it better with him gone.  No one to bitch at her about getting well and maybe even finding a job. Ahhh, the quiet. The quiet would help her relax ever so slightly until Jerome showed up with more pills. She grabbed her cell and dialed him up. She needed that Oxycodone.

Jerome is 28-years-old. He’s tall, dark-skinned and handsome with a fine-ass face and a sexy frame. But he’s not your stereotypical drug dealer guy. Jerome doesn’t work street corners selling product. He’s got a rich mommy and daddy, an Exercise and Sport Science degree from Temple University, and a really good job. So maybe we’ll find out later why he’s got a part-time gig as a pill pusher.

He was always prompt to answer and deliver Darla’s product in a timely fashion. She was one of his best customers. There was a knock at the door within 20 minutes of her phone call. Yes, it’s Jerome and hell yes, he has what she wants – what she needs. Jerome stood at the door with a smirk on his face and a pill in his hand. He stuck his head inside the door, not really sure if Tom was gone like Darla alleged.

“Tom took all the cash in the house. He must’ve already had it in his pockets before the cops showed up,”  Darla made a freebie-pills-plea to Jerome.

“Girl, why did you call me out here if you don’t have the cash?” Jerome’s voice wasn’t harsh – he didn’t sound upset at all. His voice was like a soothing salve, actually. He reached in close to caress her face and whispered in her ear, “What can you give me instead?”

Jerome knew Darla since before her boot camp back injury; since before she was hooked on pills; since before she knew he had part-time drug gig, and way before she was married to Tom. Jerome actually cared for Darla – he had for a very long time. But could he really care for her and be her supplier? Was that possible? Perhaps it’s more complicated than that.

What is he doing? Darla didn’t have much time to think. Still inside the open doorway, Jerome took off his shirt and grabbed her with gentle force. Darla didn’t refuse him. At some point soon after that the door finally closed shut, but not before one last peep-hole-nosy neighbor witnessed Darla and Jerome’s newborn lust transpire. Shameeka Jones in apartment 2C saw it happen.

He decided to pass on the invitation to crash at his best friend Barry’s house (Barry partied too much lately), so Tom drove over to the 24-hour gym to work off his stress instead. He had his plan all thought out: I don’t care if my leg hurts. I’ll focus on upper body work and then grab a bite to eat at that diner across the street. Then I’ll go back home to my Darla. I should be home in less than two hours. I’ll give her one pill – just one. We’ll patch things up. I’m gonna get her the help she needs.

But after only 15 minutes in the weight room, he cut everything short. He even canceled his eating plans. Tom was back in the car and his way home to Darla.

Stay tuned for the next episode in the Fitness Romance Saga.

9 Miles and Sensational Sunday in Pictures

I’m getting pretty good at this going to bed early thing so I’m going to cut this short, and just share a few photos of my day….

9 miles today! only 2 weeks until the half. This is the breakdown of each mile.

I came home to my boys and we had breakfast.

I started with a Dark Chocolate Banana Almond Smoothie and had some eggs with some "happy" toast.

I had the BEST company at breakfast.

Then the boys worked on our LEGO Calendar.

We were a couple of days late for the new month.

The family hit the grocery store and I went a little nuts in the produce department. (notice The Husband in the background, he was venting about the Notre Dame game NOT my produce. lol)

We decided to snack on some pears.

Then it was GRILLING time! We had friends coming over.

Little Guy caught a Black and Yellow Garden Spider after dinner.

She was beautifully creepy!

It was hot enough for super soakers…

fun enough for smores…

and got dark enough for flash lights.

Really a fabulous day! I had a bit too many Mike’s Light Hard Lemonades so excuse any typos above my normal 5 or so. ;)

Tasting! Amy’s Organic Vegan Chocolate Cake (shaa-POW!!)

“me thinks I hear angelic creatures singing hallelujah”

My food trap has been to the heavens and returned back savoring the flavors. Ohhh, my dear Amy’s Organic Vegan Chocolate Cake.  How do I salivate over thee? Let me count the ways….

You’re vegan, which I don’t require. But when a vegan food tastes just like “normal” food, I can appreciate that.I’m mesmerized that a cake that has no milk or eggs in it (no dairy at all) can taste even better than other cakes I’ve gnawed on.Your other ingredients are so simplistic, yet your taste triumphs over other cakes who think they’re all that and a bag-o chocolate chips. You have no GMO’s, no preservatives and you’re even gluten free for the peoples who need it. Nuff’ said there.

If you did a blindfolded taste test, there’s probably no real way you’d link Amy’s to a cake outta the box from the freezer section. No freaking way. I swear it tastes better than chocolate cakes I’ve paid absurd money for at the bakery. Just thaw it out and serve.

It’s the moistness that gets ya. And the authentic, high-end organic cocoa ingredient. I’m shaking my head from being mesmerized. Surely Amy’s is da bomb. You could cut this cake into mini squares, stick some toothpicks in it, and serve it at a fancy party. Or you could skip paying bakery money for a small birthday cake celebration – just stick some candles in the Amy’s Cake instead. But don’t forget the ultimate… put a slice of Amy’s on a plate and go couch-azz as you savor the flavor.

And get this: It’s only 170 calories and 16 grams of sugar for one slice. How’d the hell they do that? If you don’t go buy yourself some Amy’s Chocolate Cake, you are totally missing out.

Now excuse me, I’m about  to re-enter the third realm of heaven. Time for another slice of Amy’s. For further research testing, of course.

REACTIONS FROM THE TASTE TEST CREW

Health-hater Husband: Good, but a slight after taste.

Greedy Kid #1: Oh my gosh. How do they get it to be so moist?

Greedy Kid #2: Tastes like there’s real cocoa in it.

Greedy Kid #3: You know I don’t like chocolate. I don’t want it.

Greedy Baby: (there was no comment, just a lot of chewing)

Yum UP! to: The Amy’s line of food products. I continue to be impressed.

Yuck Down: Only getting one birthday cake per year. No fair.

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Thai Style Chicken & Rice Noodles Review

Weight Watchers Smart Ones Thai Style Chicken & Noodles

Get ready for a lot of Frozen Dinner Reviews, because I think I picked up one of everything from my local grocery store a few nights ago. I love when companies try to have more exotic flavors, so one of the 1st products I tried from my haul was Weight Watchers Smart Ones Thai Style Chicken & Rice Noodles.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 entree (260 grams)
Calories: 260
Total Fat: 4 grams, 6%
Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams, 4%
Sodium: 620 mg, 26%
Carbohydrates: 42 grams
Fiber: 2 grams, 8%
Sugars: 10 grams
Protein: 15 grams

The prep directions said to microwave for 4 minutes 30 seconds, which is what I did. I was actually very pleasantly surprised by how good this meal was. It's simple - rice noodles, carrots & chicken in a "Thai style" sauce - and in this case, the simplicity paid off. There small chunks of chicken provided was quite plentiful, and it was well saturated with in a brown sauce. Loved the sauce - not as sweet and creamy as I expected (or dreaded), and when everything was mixed together, the sauce was the glue was what made the dish pop. It was flavorful with a hint of pepper after a few mouthfuls. The rice noodles on their own were quite bland - as all rice noodles are, so make sure to really mix everything together. The matchstick size carrots actually remained quite firm even after 4 minutes in the microwave, and they added a nice crunch to the meal.

I had this for dinner, but the 255 gram entree looked a wee bit small, so I added a side of Pictsweet Steam'ables Baby Sugar Snap Peas, which rounded out the meal nicely.

Coupons.com

Each Weight Watchers Smart Ones Thai Style Chicken & Noodles entree (260 grams) provides 260 calories from 4 grams of total fat (6% of the daily value), 0.5 grams of which is saturated (4% of the DV), 620 mg sodium (26% of the DV), 2 grams of fiber, 10 grams of sugars and 15 grams of protein. This has a 7 PointsPlus value, and the ingredients list, although lengthy, is mostly filled with recognizable ingredients.

I purchased this on sale for $2.50 and would definitely buy this again. It makes a tasty lunch and can be part of a really nice dinner. Another tasty Thai style frozen dinner option is Helen's Kitchen Thai Yellow Curry (Review).
