Ball Park Franks Coupon

Hot Diggity Dog

If you "Like" Ball Park Franks Facebook page, you'll be able to print a coupon for $1.00 off any one product (look for the coupon link on the left hand side of the page) - offer available for a limited time.

One of the few "fat free" products the husband will eat is Ball Park Fat Free Beef Franks, so we're never out. But even I, who admittedly has way too much sodium in my diet, found the review of Ball Park Bun Size Smoked White Turkey Franks to have too much of a salty flavor.

What toppings do you put on your hot-dogs? I'm a ketchup and relish girl, but not much else.

Sensational Sunday Shots

It’s a more pictures than words kind of of night for me. I started off strong this morning and then my energy just slowly drained away. Now I’m procrastinating sleep when I shouldn’t just because I want to watch a little brainless TV. Not good. I know.

Anyway, this morning really did start off fabulous. How could it not with these two?

We got straight to work. Well at least I did. lol

I kid. The Little Guy actually was a great helper. We had a lot to do as last weeks laundry still needed to be folded. Bad, I know.

The cat simply watched from my office.

And that’s where she stayed the majority of the day. Bitch. lol

Soon it was time for breakfast. I made the Husband eggs and bacon (1 extra slice for me)

and I made some oatmeal.

What I made was something similar to Green Tea Oatmeal with Dried Fruit and Almonds but I used a peach tea bag and pecans. I’ll post it on GreenLiteBites if I get a minute tomorrow.

After breakfast the cleaning commenced. I even went as far as removing all the VHS tapes from our living rooms shelves to help with some of the clutter.

I was all business but I still found time to have some fun.

Little Guy and I finished up our latest Fun Fusion creations.

I also took a "snack." break. Today’s green smoothie was banana, an orange, spinach and a bit of kale.

Then it was back to work. Cleaning today was almost therapeutic.

I actually enjoyed it. Weird. I know.

Soon it was time for lunch. We settled on simple PB&J with a side of veggies.

After lunch had some one-on-one baby time.

We ended up taking a short nap on the couch while watching ET. It was nice.

Even though I napped, by 5PM I was completely exhausted. We ended up hitting KFC for dinner before heading to the grocery store. I had a grilled breast, baked beans and green beans.

When we got back it was bath times for the kids. We also put all the groceries and laundry away.

That took every last bit of energy.

Before bed we opened our traditional LEGO Minifigure.

Now I’m ready for bed but I got sucked into the new Game of Thorns series on HBO and I’m snacking on a pumpkin vitatop. I’m also sitting here stressing about the conference. I’ve accomplished a lot so far but there is still so much to do and this week will be challenging. It’s spring break. I’ll be home with both kids all day. I sort of wish I had no other responsibilities right now. Ugh.

Morningstar Farms Grillers California Turk'y Burger Review

Morningstar Farms Grillers California Turk'y BurgerAfter having a wonderful experience with Morningstar Farms Grillers Chik'n Veggie Patties, I decided to try the California Turk'y Burger Grillers. Morningstar says, "with a great blend of avocados and tomatoes, this juicy, California-style veggie turk'y burger is a delicious hit from coast to coast. Throw it on the grill, then get to gobbling." These had a ringing endorsement from my boyfriend's parents, too, so I picked up a 4-pack box for $4.59.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 patty (67 grams)
Calories: 90
Total Fat: 5 grams, 8%
Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams, 3%
Sodium: 390 mg, 17%
Carbohydrates: 7 grams
Fiber: 5 grams, 22%
Sugar: < 1 gram
Protein: 9 grams

I must say, the description is pretty accurate! I loved how juicy these were, and the tomato/ avocado blend was perfect. Because this is "turk'y," it tastes somewhat different from the "beef" patties from the company - in a good way! I gobbled mine up right away, without any extra seasoning, and it was delicious.

Each burger provides 90 calories, 5 grams of fat, 0.5 grams of which is saturated (8% and 3% of the daily value), 390 mg of sodium (17% of the DV), 5 grams of fiber (19% of the DV), less than 1 gram of sugar, 9 grams of protein, and 15% of the DV for iron.

The ingredients list is a little lengthy, but the nutrition facts for this veggie burger, plus the taste, means I'll be buying this again. These are my new second favorites - second only to the Chik'n!

I Didn’t Finish it!

Yet again I have a fussy baby on my hands. ugh. It seems 10pm is his "witching hour" as my Great Aunt would say. I should have blogged about this on Babble today but instead I posted all these cute baby photos. They made me smile. :)

Anyway, just wanted to post my food journal real quick and celebrate a NSV (Non Scale Victory) I’m sure other Mom’s can relate to.

My day started as it always does except with a game of Uno mixed in.

I’m loving spring break! I forgot how much fun it is having Little Guy home in the mornings.

I had a 2 egg, 1 egg white western omelet, no cheese and with spinach. Delicious!

After breakfast we headed to the Mall. I had a Green Tea and hung out with Evan while Ryan took a Lego class.

After class, we splurged on Dippin Dots

I love these things!

So does Little Guy but he has this amazing ability–like his Father–to stop eating when he’s full.

He handed me his cup with some left…

and I DIDN’T finish it.

Ohhh how I could have.

But I didn’t.

This is a HUGE NSV. I’m normally the garbage bin when it comes to food. I just eat it becuase it’s there. I’m trying though!

Oh and I’m also proud of not going out to lunch while we were there. Something I do way too often. Instead I came home and cooked this…

A Cheesy Salsa Tuna Burgers, click here for the recipe. I’ve been a bit burger obsessed lately.

A few hours later I grabbed a Larabar. ALMOST forgetting to record it in the journal. So I snapped this pic real quick on the computer.

Tonight, I whipped up a quick dinner for the family–pork chops, brown rice and broccoli but I forgot to snap a picture. :( It was a good looking meal too.

Oh well, I just finished a light yogurt cup and now I’m ready for bed.

Oh! And I finally posted those pink cupcakes! Click here to check them out. And if you haven’t already, click here for those baby pics. I can’t stop LOOKING at him. He’s so stinkin’ cute!

Alright.. I’m off.

Izze Sparkling Grapefruit Juice Beverage Review

Izze Sparkling Grapefruit Juice Beverage

Izze Sparkling Juice is an all natural flavored juice beverage, made from pure fruit juice (from concentrate) and sparkling water. In fact, it contains 70% fruit juice according to the information on the bottle. Various flavors can usually be seen front and center at Starbucks, and so recently, I decided to try the Sparkling Grapefruit flavor instead of getting my usual coffee fix.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bottle (12 ounces)
Calories: 120
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 20 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 31 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugar: 29 grams
Protein: 0 grams

Clearly something that is 70% fruit juice is going to have quite a bit of sugar, and a 12 ounce bottle of Izze Sparkling Grapefruit provides 120 calories from 29 grams of sugars ... which is about on par with 70% of a 1 cup serving of Simply Grapefruit Juice for example.

The ingredients label reads, pure juice made from apple, white grape, orange and graprefruit juice concentrates, sparkling water, citric acid, natural flavor, gum arabic, red radish juice (color).

Coupons.com

The taste was not as tart as I thought it would be, in fact I thought it was a little too sweet, and the flavor is more like a hodgepodge of white grape & apple with sparkling water added. But, as I drank more of it, the tartness started to come out more and more, as did the grapefruit flavor. Still, I much preferred Izze Sparkling Pomegranate over this Grapefruit flavor.

I paid $1.95 for a 12 ounce bottle of Izze Sparkling Grapefruit, and wasn't really moved to purchase that flavor again. I would rather have a plain old grapefruit - a fruit I LOVE - or a glass of Simply Grapefruit Juice.

Forgetful

Lately I find myself opening up my web browser and having to wait a few seconds before I remember why I opened the browser in the first place. Sort of like my brain is a computer that has frozen for a few seconds as it distributes enough resources to properly load my Rememberio 1.0 program. Usually the thought comes to me, like “Oh right, I wanted to look up what movies this actor has been in” or “I need to look up the location of the shoe store on Google Maps.” But still, there is this slight pause that is sort of annoying and slightly perturbing.

I learned in my college psychology class that we have two forms of short term memory. There is the super short term memory that lasts for about 7-10 seconds. Anything you think of in those seconds can then be copied over to your regular short term memory, where it will stay for a longer amount of time and may eventually be copied over to long term memory. (This is the part of the entry where someone with a science background will nitpick my retelling of these concepts and tell me how I’ve screwed up my summary of something I learned in 1999, but whatever. Please be nice about it if you do. I ain’t a doctor, I just play one on this blog.) Sometimes you don’t copy over something in the super short memory and that’s when you get that horribly annoying feeling that you know you’ve forgotten something but you have no idea what you’ve forgotten. So then you try to backtrack through your thoughts trying to recreate the mental path you took to think of whatever you forgot.

I’ve come up with three theories on why my memory is experiencing mental hiccups:

1) It is the inevitable result of a fast-paced, social media world where my attention is constantly being pulled a zillion different ways at once between Facebook, Twitter, email, my web browser, my phone, constant background stressors like finances, health insurance claims, gas prices and oh, right, my actual real world environment where my neighbors’ kids run screeching like dying chimpanzees downstairs.

2) It is the sign of the cognitive impairment that comes with chronic pain.

3) It is a result of the aging process by which I will become old, forgetful and senile.

I’m not sure which one of these things is making me slightly forgetful, or if it’s a combination of some of them, or if it’s due to something else entirely.

Oh, and literally hours after I had written this post, as if the universe were reading my forgetful lil’ mind, I read an article that says fat people have worse memories than skinny people. So maybe my weight gain since my headache began is to blame. Let’s add this then:

4) Weight gain ? has led to memory loss ?.

Anyway, I’m not sure what there is to be done about it other than to buy lots of post-it notes and start doing crossword puzzles to exercise my mind. I’m not a big crossword fan, so I’ll probably just keep forgetting things instead. Wait, what was I talking about?

Learning The “Ropes”

This week was filled with those first warm spring days in which you can’t help but smile every time you breathe.

I moved into the left side of this 100-year-old duplex last November when nature had gone dormant and so had I.

Six months later, buds are budding, birds are nesting, flowers are blooming, and my seasonal affective disorder has migrated for another year.
Gardening is an old friend, and it’s been especially comforting this year as I learn my way through this unfamiliar new life. Along with patient friends and a supportive family, what sustained me through the unusually harsh winter were thoughts of what was lying in my new yard beneath its snow and leaves and decay of last year’s growth.

‘What are you hiding and what might we grow together?’

This week we finally got acquainted, my yard and me, when I raked up, dug up, and pruned five 30-gallon bags worth of compostable material, and surveyed the early spring perennials and the beds in which they have emerged. I planned (at least in my head because god knows I’ll change my mind a hundred times when I walk into a nursery) what annuals I will plant come May and how much mulch I’ll need.

….ahhhhhh….I heart spring!

I watched, for the hundredth time, this video when I was with the g-babies the other day. It always makes me smile.

Spring is here, in all its complexity. It’s not perfect this year, it’s not what I expected, but it’s here nonetheless. And you know what? That’s gotta be OK because Mother Nature’s not asked any of us for our opinion.

Soooo….in getting all cool with my yard, I realized that gardening is familiar, but lawn work is not. The people who lived on the other side of the duplex – the ones who shoveled the walks this winter and would mow the yard this year – bought a house and moved out a few weeks ago, leaving yours truly with the keys to the shed. So a few days after doing what was familiar – gardening – I took on the unfamiliar. Mowing.

I earned my allowance and spending money cutting grass as a kid, but I haven’t pushed a mower in 30 years, let alone start one.

I heaved the mower from the shed and looked for some kind of button thingy that I remember pushing to prime the engine for easier starting. Apparently that went out with the dinosaur, and mowers have advanced in this post-ice-age technology.

I knew to hold up the metal bar on the handle and hang on to it as I pulled the rope to start it. But the motor was having none of it. After several attempts, I concluded that I was either A) too weak to pull the rope hard enough (why is self-depreciation always the first option?). But I assured myself that I work out diligently and am strong, so that really wasn’t an option; or B) I wasn’t priming it the right way.

“Hey, neighbor, want some help starting that thing?” a voice called from over the fence.

‘Crap,’ I thought. I couldn’t hide my mower-starting efforts with all the grunting and such and a motor taunting me with every pull: “Ummm….no. Ummmm…no. Try again. Ummm…..no.” My need for help was transparent.

I swallowed my self-consciousness and called back over the fence, “Yes, I could use some help.”

Mr. Neighbor came over, and within a few minutes, had the mower running. Like a patient father, he showed me how to move the throttle on the handle to start the mower properly. He insisted I try it myself a few times, and while that felt a little weird (I’m 47 for godsake!), I adjusted the handle throttle and pulled the rope and…by golly…it started every time! On the outside I was totally cool, but secretly inside I was doing a HUGE happy dance.

By the time my lesson was over, it was getting late and I had plans. No time to mow. So I dragged the mower to the porch and figured I’d get ‘r done first thing after the g-babies arrived today.

“This is Grammy’s mower!” I said to Claire and Luca, pushing the red monstrosity on to the yard. “You two stand back while I start it, OK?”

Moments later….

“What’s wrong, Grammy?” asked Claire. “Why won’t it start?”

Pull. Pull. PUUUUULLLL! Dammmmmmit!

I looked at them. They looked at me.

“Grammy, why can’t you start it?” Claire asked again.

….Sigh…

What I’d normally have done is swear a lot and kick the tires and blame the machine. But I had a 3- and 2-year-old depending on me to be a responsible grandmother, so I took a deep breath and went over in my head yesterday’s instructions.

“Pull the throttle up to start and, holding this bar, move it down to get maximum power.”

I pulled the throttle forward, pulled the rope and YAY!! Mower power ensued! Vrrrooooom, vvvvvroom! Eureka!

Luca was impressed. He followed me all over the yard. Claire just gathered my hand tools and went to the driveway to dig up rocks. But the point is, I mowed my lawn – the first lawn in 30 years – and I did it well. I learned there are water-logged dips in the middle of my yard and water-deprived inclines. Whoever lived here before had a dog or three because there are clear indications of “This is my place to pee” dog markings.

But all in all, I think my yard and I are going to get along juuuuuust fine. In fact, I’ve gone outside more than a few times today or peeked through the blinds just to admire my “work.” God knows my shoulders and hamstrings are shot right now. Thank goodness for Advil. But I’ll adjust.

Hopefully we have a long summer ahead, full of gardening and mowing opportunities. I look forward to that planned peace.

Life, as my sister-in-law always reminds me, is good. It really is. Rough and bumpy as my lawn? Yes. Uncertain as spring? Yes. But we’re doing it and living it every day, so why not progress in those day-by-day infinitesimal moments by deciding to learn how to…for lack of a better metaphor…prime the mower the right way and start it?

***********SIDE NOTE!**************

Claire made the “That’s Church” blog today! That’s Church is a blog about everything Pittsburgh, and is written by the always honest and very funny Virginia Montanez.

Claire dictated a letter to her mom (my amazing daughter Cassie) for Pittsburgh Penguins player Sidney Crosby while he was recovering from his “brain boo boo,” as Claire calls it (a concussion). She included this picture she made for him, too:

The Pens sent her an autographed photo of Sid, and it’s become more important to her than her two previous favorite things: blanket and chickipoo.

Go Pens! Or as Luca says, “Uh, uh, PENS!!”
