Merry CHRISTMAS!

Seventh visit. Same Santa.

I adore Christmas day.

I love me some Christmas Eve.

Even though we dont celebrate the holiday Ive always loved the fact everything goes from HURRRRRY!! (as the token Jew Ive worked countless Christmas Eves helping panicked people find that last minute gift) to slower (typically traffic as we all head home from wherever we are) to STOP.

Sure we end up hanging with friends who celebrate the holiday & that’s FUN—-but my favorite piece is the STOP at home.

Nothing open.

Literally no one working.

Unplugged.

BEING PRESENT.

**STOP**

The Tornado and I also love our yearly pictures with Santa.

The tradition started because one of the first pictures we ever received of her was sitting on Santa’s lap and has evolved from there.

The rules are it’s ALWAYS at the same mall.

It’s always a spontaneous decision (hence the post-soccer photo above)

And it’s always the Tornado’s choice (hence one of the years I linked where she’s in her princess nightgown).

Id imagine these Christmas routines sound small in the scope of vast & intricate Christmas traditions of others—but given all the flux and change here recently our yearly trip to the mall & JUST US/NO PACKING tomorrow have taken on greater importance and focus.

I know today is gogogoHECTIC —but Id love to hear one of your Christmas traditions in the comments below.

(I cant promise, however, we wont steal it appropriate it as we start building our Bay Area traditions for next year…)

Christmas Food Porn

I’m a Pinterest newbie, but I think I’ve got the hang of it. I’m still adding images to my Pinterest board entitled Greedy Beautiful Christmas Treats, but go on and bask in the delectableness. See what I’ve got there so far…

pinterest1 Christmas Food Porn

There’s no way I could ingest all of this goodness (dear gawd, I wish I could. I really wanna…). That would be sinister.

But I’m the kinda woman who loves for my eyeballs to indulge in food porn of the Merry Christmas variety. Yet my stomachs may indeed get a face to face appointment with the Christmas Tree Pancakes and Protein Cinnamon Rolls. And while I’m way too lazy to make the Red Velvet Christmas Cheesecake, I very much want to force someone else to make it for me.

Get on over there and check out the board.

Which Christmas Food Porn image of greediness is your favorite(s)?

My Favorite Sensational Sunday Christmas Pictures

It’s Christmas! I had the best day ever! Yeah, yeah I ate too much but whatever. I’m not here to whine and cry about it. I’m here to share some photos of my fabulous day. I was too absorbed to do a play-by-play so here are my favorites.

That was actually from Christmas Eve, but I had to share. Everyone’s looking!

The Husband and his Flex Seal. It’s sort of an inside joke. I HAD to buy it for him.

Someone had quite a day. I just love his expression in this.

Someone else REALLY liked shells. He ate all the broken ones!

Side note: For more Little Bean Christmas pictures click here. I posted them on Baby’s First Year.

It was so warm (for December) we went to the park!

My favorite gift. A Mother’s necklace with both boy’s birthstones.

And finally, this year’s ornament. If you’ve been reading for some time, you may know of our ornament tradition. The Husband gets one that represents our year together every Christmas. Click here to read the story and see all 17. Yes that’s how long we’ve been together. We’re OLD! ;)

That’s all I have. I may not post for the next few days. Much family time to be had. I’ll be back Wednesday with my food journal. I plan on picking up my tracker right where I left off.

I hope you are having an awesome holiday!

All I Want For Christmas is…

Ha! now I got that song stuck in your head. Didn’t I? I had that album when I was a kid–yes I mean the vinyl album–and listened to it over and over and over again with a little Nat King Cole mixed in. I knew every word, including the cheesy spoken intros with Dave.

OH how I LOVE the holidays! And this year I’m especially excited. For the first time ever we are staying home for Christmas. Just me and the boys creating our own traditions. I’m smiling just thinking about it!

You may be wondering why I’m talking about this now. Well, I realized something–We have exactly one month before Christmas (for those of you that celebrate.) That’s one month to give ourselves the best present ever.

Balance.

I’m not setting any specific weight loss or size goals by Christmas. The scale has not been my friend. Not because it’s not moving in the direction I want it to, that’s on me, but because it’s not a motivator for me any longer. I can’t explain it. I see the number and it bugs me, but it doesn’t motivate. If anything, it UNmotivates me.

Honestly, I just want to feel in control of my eating habits again. Old patterns and habits are resurfacing and I just don’t like it.

The solution for me is simple: It’s all about the food journal. I want the structure and the accountability and I’m committing to keep it until Christmas. Starting today.

Note: I’m putting no pressure on myself to share it real time or take the best photos. The journals will be raw and the photos are more for me to remember what I ate then to show off the food.

My post-Thanksgiving breakfast started with a grapefruit and cup of tea.

Then Mom and I enjoyed our free breakfast at Ikea.

Yes we shop on Black Friday, but we are aren’t the nut balls waiting in line. It’s all about mother/daughter time and getting a jump on the holiday shopping. While walking around the mall we shared a bag of popcorn too. It was nice. :)

When we came home I polished off the Thanksgiving salad.

I started this tradition last year and perfected it yesterday. This salad ROCKS! Greens, walnuts, gouda cheese, pears, dried cranberries and some raspberry vinaigrette. It’s TO DIE FOR!

After the salad I made the first of many leftover turkey sandwiches.

Click here for the recipe. I’m hoping to post a few more ideas this weekend.

It was soon time for a warm bowl of my homemade turkey soup.

It came out FABULOUS this year. I added a few cloves and cubes of ginger when I made the stock and it added such great flavor.

Before Little Guy went to bed we decided to split some frozen grapes and then I enjoyed one more bowl of soup while watching a movie with my parents.

I feel great about my choices today. Especially after yesterday. Let’s just say I had more than my share of pie, cookies AND truffles. Yes the Mother-in-Law brought truffles. I love and hate her at the same time. ;)

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I’ll be back tomorrow. :)

A MizFit’s guide to navigating Christmas.

Some last minute flashback tips for mitigating, navigating and tolerating all the impending Christmas chaos.

Please to add your tip and suggestions below.

Reread this. Thanksgiving? Hanukkah? All the major holidays? Bring the same sorta stress. It’s a good thing, People. We can reuse old posts tactics!Have low expectations. While this may sound silly or even negative—it really works. Keeping your expectations low (or, more aptly put realistic) places far less pressure on you *and* those around you. Aim for a simple, enjoyable holiday, rather than hopestriving for crazy, shocking unmitigated rapture. Decide that you’ll be happy if you have a nice day with good food, friends, family and a few laughs. If things turn out to be far better than you’d anticipated it’s added bonus! Are you playing host or hostess this year? One word: delegate. Ask for help both before and after the meal (this post might be kind of late for the helpseeking food-wise, but not for set up etc.). Dont end up feeling tiredtired over the holidays as a result of feeling resentful and unappreciated. Remember, even the littles can help in *some fashion* and, as a result, everyone will feel more a part of the celebration.Make time for you, for what energizes you, and for what gets you good tired. Take a walk alone to recharge, take advantage of having visiting relatives who might wanna babysit (for free!) to recharge with your partner/spouse. Perhaps think about implementing behavior based bonuses during the holidays. Reward yourself not for pounds lost (or even maintained) but for remaining calm with the family member who knows (knew?) how to rile you up or for reacting in new, healthy ways to old triggers.Fiber. Yep, I said it. Stay regular. Feel better all around. ’nuff said. It’s not a competition. Dont allow yourself to get sucked into what others are receiving/doing/having this holiday season. Hell, all year ’round this is a good thing to remember. Let’s challenge each other to see who can be the least competitive. From our decorations to our fancy dinners to our array of gifts. Remember, we are AVIS up in herre and proud of it. This holiday season let’s all be number two.
Use relaxation techniques. Try meditation. Try deep breathing or focusing on your breath as a way to diminish anxiety or tension. Exhale your breath completely, squeeze your abdominal wall in an attempt to expel ALL from your lungs, inhale as deeply as you can. Then exhale slowly again. Do this three or four times when you are feeling stressed. Yoga is another great way to relax over the holidays, but the great thing about this exercise is you can do it anytime or anywhere.Limit yer drinking. I know, I know but the more you indulge, the more likely you are to overeat, wake up with a hangover, or blurt out what you think of your great aunt’s new young’ inappropriate boyfriend.Plan a treat for after you sail successfully through the holiday frazzle. Whether this is a reward for sticking to your food plan or for making it though Christmas dinner without screaming at your mother–pre-plan something to which you can look forward. If need be make this treat your mantra. Nothing makes pie you dont really love less alluring than knowing you have a spa day booked should you be able to resist.

There you go, People.

That’s what Ive got for you as far as tips to make it through the next week or so.

And remember, as Vince Vaughn says in the piece of cinematic wonderment which is Four Christmases: you cant spell families without the lies.

(No, I have absolutely no real point with that quote. V-squared just makes me freakin laugh.)

$99 Android Tablet at Walgreen’s this ChristmasPosted by: Cody HahnOctober 27, 2010This Christmas, Walgreen’s will offer an Android tablet on their website.  Walgreen’s is going to offer their tablet for just $99 (marked down from the $129.99 original price).

The tablet being offered is named the Maylong M-150.

The Maylong tablet runs the aging Android 1.6 OS and is assumed to not come with access to Google Marketplace.  The display on the Maylong tablet is a 7-inch (800 x 480) resistive touchscreen TFT LCD display (comes with a Stylus). The 7-inch tablet is powered by a ARM9(VM8505+) CPU and comes with just 256MB of DDR system memory.

The Maylong M-150 tablet for storage comes with a SD card slot. Other things featured on the budget android tablet includes USB, RJ45, built-in speaker (1W) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connectivity. The tablet weights only 12oz., is 0.3? thin and is supplied a 1500MA Li-Polymer battery (no word on the battery life).

As a lower end android tablet the specs are impressive considering the $99.00 price tag. I wouldn't mind getting one of these under the tree instead of that itchy sweater. This would be a great starter device for those who want a tablet and don't want a $399.99 commitment with a contract as with the Galaxy Tab. So keep a look out on Walgreen's online, these are sure to go fast.

Here is the Walgreen's Link go check back often. They are currently out of stock, they are expected to have more in the future. They wouldn't sell out before Christmas.

That design is a huge iPad rip off.

For $99, this doesn't look too bad, and someone will hack the market on it and custom 2.2 roms probably. If someone sucessfully hacks it i may pick one up and do the same.

Call me when it is rooted and overclocked.

Actually, don't even call me then. That resistive screen is a deal killer.

Reply ›EpicanisOctober 27, 2010

Why does it have an "Internet Explorer®" "e" in the bar at the bottom?...

Still probably worth the price if it's hackable.

Reply ›JoeEOctober 27, 2010

Hmmm, Walgreen's dispenses its biggest tablet:-)

Reply ›LexOctober 28, 2010

How does it have no internal memory? Where are the apps saved? Can you only use the apps pre-installed? Unless there's some sort of Apps2SD for 1.6 that I've never heard of...

Reply ›Cody HahnOctober 28, 2010

apps r stored n the 256MB DDR aka "system memory"

Reply ›Nguy?n Thanh ThiênOctober 28, 2010
