Blog to Book: Musings from My Weight Loss Journey [Kindle Edition]

I SO should be sleeping but I couldn’t go to bed with out posting really quick!

Tomorrow I’m heading to Toronto for TBEX, a conference specifically for travel bloggers. I wouldn’t categorize myself quite as a travel blogger YET, but it’s something I want to learn more about in hopes of growing TheUnworldlyTravelers into a thriving blog giving me more opportunities and reasons to travel.

If you remember, all of this was something I put on my birthday bucket list last year and as you are well aware, I’m not getting any younger. The time to DO is now. :)

My plan tomorrow morning is to go to the 6 a.m. CrossFit class (because I’m obsessed,) run my mile, and head to the airport. It’s going to be quite a challenge considering I’m not completely packed and it’s 11:30 p.m. but you’ll have this. I’ll sleep on the plane.

Screen shot 2013-05-30 at 11.47.21 PMAnyway, the real reason I’m here is announce my Blog To Book called From Fat to Skinny to Healthy: Musings From My Weight-Loss Journey. I worked with the editors at Hyperlink.com to package some of my archives in book form for the Kindle. The idea is to have a collection of posts that give my story and thoughts on weight loss in a easy-to-access format.

At first I wasn’t sold on the idea considering my archives are all available here and I don’t actually own a Kindle, but then I realized others may find it helpful.

So there you have it, a new book, a trip to Toronto, oh! And I had fun with a new breakfast idea on GreenLiteBites using chia seeds!

I was on a roll today even though I had to put out a few FitBloggin‘ fires and I took the kids to the pool.

I think I thrive off busy. :)

Living not blogging: Presidents Day edition.

Yes, People.

Even with the relocation & move to a new ‘hood I am still that mom.

Im excited when the Tornado has a day off from school & even MORE SO when it’s not because Ive slunk up to the office, fabricated an excuse & stolen her away for a day of play.

big thelma and little louise? big thelma and little louise?

Today, to my delight, is a school-sanction playday.

An opportunity to git up early, work-like-the-wind, and spend the rest of the day living my priorities.

Ive planned some of this:

Get yours yet? Get yours yet?

Lots of this:

calloused monkey bar hands. calloused monkey bar hands.

Perhaps some joyriding:

the HAT kills me every time. the HAT kills me every time.

Definitely this. LOUDLY:

<3

MAYBE a little of this?
<IMG class= ahhh nappage…

We will probably get new tattoos:

Im eager to finish my back piece! Im eager to finish my back piece!

hers is almost done... hers is almost done…

Im not yet certain what else….

must.explore.new.hood. must.explore.new.hood.

All I know is Im typically this:

love my RAW THREADS love my RAW THREADS

but not today.

And you?

Is your “work” technically closed today? Are you self-employed, able to work in the wee hours & gifted daywithchild? What are YOUR plans on this Presidents Day 2013?

Living not blogging: birthday edition*

I know.

I, too, feel, as though Ive yammered about my birthday coming! soon! for the past 364 days.

Ive prattled on and on and on & it’s finally here.

And, after all that, Ive decided to spend today pretty much in the same fashion as I spend every other.

Ala the notion of happiness not being having everything you want—but wanting everything you have.

I shall spend time hanging out with this one (& marveling it’s been close to 3 years since I had this caricature made for her):

Last I heard she was gunning for us to spend the morning making gluten-free cake pops (like these from last year):

Im hoping, as in years past, she’ll demand to be my doppleganger:

As I know the years of her requesting that are waning:

(Im not sure I have any idea where my headband is. We may need to birthday-gift ourselves new ones.)

I plan to follow her lead and let her show me how she thinks birthdays should be celebrated.

I imagine when given free reign over my day she’ll be just like her I LOVE MY ROUTINE! Mama & pick some time with this:

And with these lovely yoga-loving folks:

Perhaps she’ll pick to spend some time here:

I *hope* she’ll choose some QUALITY time with these:

Perhaps we’ll hang with him**, too:

And afterward Im hoping for some good old fashioned beanbag/snacks/movie time:

Im hoping for a day spent discovering (her) & reminding (me) we are happy because we want what we have.

And that life—and birthdays—is (are) as simple as that.

*Ive closed the comments today as this post is 100% my forcing you to peer inside my birthday-brain. No need to wish me a happy ANYTHING as *my* wish is you take the 30 seconds or a minute you’d spend on a comment & and share them with a loved one in YOUR life!

**The husband.

Four on a Friday (VEGAS edition)

Because really what says VEGAS more than TUTUS?

By the time you read this Ill be happily on a plane, snuggled with my Kindle, and heading toward Las Vegas.

I could do an entire series of posts about how much I adore flying.

The abdication of control. The navigation resting on someone elses shoulders. The slice of (relative) silence in an otherwise harried world. The fact Ive been married to a reluctant flier for 15 years and STILL dont understand said reluctantnessment.

Love. Love. Love.

Which leads me to my fabulous (or at least bullet’ed for your reading pleasure) four on a friday.

Today I may be obsessively practicing my talk be less laid back than on other flights as Im heading to Vegas to do a presentation. For a brand (read: to grown-ups). About harnessing the power of Twitter (specifically) & social media (in general). Im excited. Im ready. Im not donning the tutu till Im finished (for those of you, like Ren Man, who were worried) and I plan to phone-blog any and all adventures. After this brief trip Im homebound until I head off to Los Angeles & Blog World/New Media Expo. Im speaking on the subject of Finding a Better Fit. My panel will focus on transitioning passions (blogging and fitness) into business partnerships with brands & how to each manage blogging/social media engagement to translate personal brands into viable business opportunities. (translation: My co-panelists Kelly, Andrea, Leah & Steph are amazing, savvy women. I plan to listen & take notes as well as speak)

And ever the misfit (where on earth she gets it from I have no idea!!!) the Tornado insisted on wearing both sets around the house for a while FLEXING and attempting to shatter then with her emerging bicep muscles:

Hmmm I guess thats really it. Duly noted I only had three—but am unflaggingly smitten with alliteration.

So that’s where I am on this friday:

Flying, not tutu wearing (yet!), hydrating, & excited to head to LA soon.

And you?

What shall I do with my free time in Vegas? (it has been so so long since Ive been there!) Got any tips for me?

Are you still Brita challenging? Did you procure you some bangles or rubberbands as well?

Are you heading to Blog World Expo? Attending VIRTUALLY?

Do you live in LA? Shall we meet up and frolic while Im there?

Living not BLOGGING (President’s Day edition).

Ahh People.

Today is a great day.

So great Im not even bothering with the ‘I feel badly for those of you who have to work or who dont reside in the USA and have the day off’ dizclaimer.

OH NO SHE DIDNT!!! Oh YES SHE DID!

Ren Man is home.

The child is home.

Im always home home but plan to have my work finished at the CRACK of dawn.

And we’re going to just HANG OUT ALL DAY.

First we will workout.

Non-traditionally of course because (all together now) fitness isn’t about fitting in.

(if youre joining via a reader theres a 20 second video below of the Husband doing creative corework in the domicile)

Next we will be doing a President’s Day craft:

(Im seriously excited about this for some odd reason. Pretzels, frosting, all reminiscent of my FAVE Lincoln Logs toy? What’s not to love?)

After all *that* excitement we shall unwind with some family yoga time (please to enjoy the ephemeral video below where Ren Man & Tornado demonstrate the obscure and seemingly random well-known Lizard on a Rock pose. Then please to grab a partner & attempt at home):

Then, if this misfit gets her way, we shall cap the day off with a family outing to an educational film or somewhere equally serious & fraught with learning potential.

And you?

What are you up to on this Monday?

Will you join us in frosting & frivolity?

Core-work & (movie) candy?

Please to hit us all up in the comments…

Wordless Wednesday:the hair edition.

This not-so-wordless Wednesday is brought to you by a Twitter conversation about hair lengths and colors.

It all started here. I went for extensions (early ’90s) before the art of it and Caucasian hair was really perfected.

Short version? I ended up with the dreadlocks below (I think the picture was for a fitness book we did at our studio.).

And, when I was over those, I had to shave my head. The photo below is my hair *way* grown out. (I think it was for a Valentines Day personal training promotion. I know, we all hurt for me)

Since I had barely any hair (seriously. the above is grown out!) I seized that time to go red, purple, and the platinum-blond below. To my chagrin Ive yet to find any red or purple haired pictures.

The end.
