Woot! Here It Is! My Bikini Body Revealed

So let’s see here. I’m about 80% happy with my results (eh, I’m my own worst critic), yet 110% ecstatic that the very thing I set out to do back in February (to wear a bikini with confidence), I have now achieved. I had quite a bit of anxiety when I publicly committed to this goal and I knew when I invited you all to join in on the Bikini Body Challenge that I would need to lead by example.

I’ve never trained as hard and never committed to such a high level of disciplined eating as I have in these past 5 months. And you know what? This is a lifestyle for me now. I have no intention of taking a pie-eating break (okay, maybe just a little pie), and definitely no workout hiatuses. I’m on a roll and I’m not slowing down!

The journey of reshaping my body and slimming the trouble zones (my thighs and stomach) continues. There’s nothing I can do about the stretch marks and loose skin from birthing 4 child-spawns (including 3 c-sections). And there’s nothing I can do about the scars from 2 separate hernia operations, except to accept all those imperfections.

But everything else is in my control and that goes the same for YOU! It’s up to me to make my body what I want it to be – for my health, strength, and to look my very best.

Important Note! There are 3 hot chicks who saw this Challenge through to the end and submitted their before/after pics for Bikini Body Challenge (Donna and Angela and Tonda). The winner will be announced before the week is out, so please submit your before/after pics right away if you also participated.

The Tools I Used To Get My Bikini Body (and continue to use)

1) Plyometric workouts of 20-30 minutes and other bodyweight exercises. I barely lifted a dumbbell and only stepped foot into a gym twice during the Challenge. I’m a home workout kinda gal. I do NOT engage in hour-long cardio sessions. Short, yet high-intensity workouts do the trick. Bodyrock.Tv has been instrumental in my results, along with my own Bodyrock-style workouts that I create.

2) Running: I didn’t start running until late in the Challenge. My focus is short-distance speed work (1-2 miles) after each plyometric workout. But I only set out to run if time permits as an “icing on the cake” kinda of thing. I run for bonus training, not as my primary workout.

3) I cut back on dairy products. My own intuition compelled me to do so.

4) I cut back on the sweet treats. Every food trap likes to have a little fun with the sweet stuff and I’ve already been in serious moderation mode with sweets for over a year now. But during the Challenge? I reduced my sweet stuff intake to almost zero.

5) Shakeology: You probably know how I feel about this stuff by now (but if not, check the left and right sidebars of the blog). When I drink Shakeology in the morning, it keeps me full until about 1:30pm with no need to snack in between. And when it’s time for lunch, instead of chewing on a big azz meal, I eat salad and/or sensible portions of whole grains and protein-rich foods. For mid-afternoon snacking, it’s great to chomp on a breakfast cookie (so what if it’s afternoon!), fruit or a Larabar.

So there you have it! Of course, none of these tools matter unless you add consistent discipline to the mix, but I’m sure you know that already.

Thank you all for following my bikini journey. Please keep working hard to achieve your goals. There’s no such thing as not making progress if you commit at the level necessary. Think about what needs to be done, what needs to be changed/tweaked, and what potentially needs to be ousted from your lifestyle completely to achieve the results you want. Even as I’m telling you this, I’m thinking back to what I looked like back in 2006. Whew! This has definitely been a journey. Stay the course and you will be rewarded!

My Bikini Body Sneak Preview!

Welp, here I am. This is me (about a week ago). I snapped some body part pics to get a good idea of my progress for the Bikini Body Challenge. The camera pretty much tells the dang honest truth.

I’ve been working really hard since the Challenge started back in February. I’ve gone from size Medium to size Small in tops, and my overall healthy living disciplines have been refined. I learned that the disciplines you develop over time are what bring about major, lasting change – not willpower.

So back to the pic: I still have some trouble zones that need fixin’ (my stomach and inner thighs), but the body transformation is on course and getting done! I’ve gone from annoyed with the idea that my stomach and inner thighs in particular would NEVER deflate, to right NOW, where I’m estatically excited that, yes, those areas and can and do lose the fat as I remain consistent in my healthy disciplines.

For those of you who committed with me, I hope you’ve stayed the course because we’re not done just yet. July 1st is my complete bikini reveal, and I will also soon select a grand prize winner of the Body Transformation cash prize of $200.

For those of you who did NOT commit to the Challenge, these 4-months have gone by anyway. Just like the next 4-months will. And the next 4 YEARS after that. Just imagine where you could be today had you started with me back in February??

…and I’ve birthed 4 child-spawns. Remember that little tidbit?

Although I’ve still got some fat burning and muscle toning to accomplish in this second half of this year, my bikini has been purchased and I’m gonna be rockin’ it just like I decided I would back in February.

Bikini Monday! How To Become A Push-Ups Powerhouse

This is NOT a challenge. Why? Because a challenge comes and goes, and then it’s over. Push-ups is an exercise I recommend you incorporate into your weekly training, over and over again. Ya know?

I do push ups 3-4 times per week. You have to get your ENTIRE body involved for push ups, but it primarily targets your chest (aka, your pecs) and front of the shoulders. Depending on how you position your arms, the triceps will get a CRAZY intense workout as well. Your core will also be challenged, but you have to focus on engaging your core for maximum results.

In these pics I’m in my couch-azzing clothes (now you know what I wear when I’m lazy). You don’t have to dress up fitness-pretty to do push ups, because you can drop and do them anytime. If you’ve been following my updates on Facebook and Twitter, you already know I’ve been knocking on 100 push-ups per training session. I typically do 10-20 reps in between each plyometric cardio-burst until I’ve reach 100 total push ups.

I chat with lots of awesome peeps about push-ups, but it bums me out when this is what they say stuff like this:

I wish I could do those.I can’t do push ups. They’re too hard.I can only do 3 push ups.

Well, okay. I felt the same why when I started out, but the not-so-secret trick to becoming a push-ups powerhouse is to do them consistently. Do them often. Start in the “girlie” modified position and work your way up to full body. You CAN do this!

If you commit to your push-ups, you WILL see strength gains fairly quickly. You will be a bad ass, m’kay? Just start out as demonstrated in the pics below.

Even if you can only bust out 1 or 2 for now, keep at it! Don’t try some today and then not do them again for an entire week. That’s a no-no.

No booty-poking-out, please. Keep that straight body line. Breath in as you lower down and breath out as you push up. Proper breathing delivers adequate oxygen to your muscles to perform the move. (Yeah, I’m getting scientific on your azz!)

If it’s needed, rest in “child’s pose” for 2-3 seconds and then start pushing again. That very short rest goes a long way towards enabling you to knock out a few extra reps.

Just as with most stuff in life, it takes time, practice and patience to improve and grow. If today you can’t do 2 or 10 push-ups, it does NOT mean you are stuck there, so no more talking about what you can’t do. Let’s get crackin’ on what you’re working towards consistently!

Bikini Interrupted: (So I Can Show You My Fitbloggin Pics)

I’m interrupting your Bikini Monday for a special reason. But if you are extra faithful to fitting into your bikini this summer despite this post NOT being about the two-piece, please commence to doing some Couch Pilates, toe lifts or elbow aerobics – anything to burn a few calories while you gaze into the pictures, right?

When I first arrived a Fitbloggin it was time for a quick pow-wow with MizFit, NoMoreBacon, ShePosts and Prior Fat Girl (in the background) to discuss for our Hobbyist to Professional panel (read the full transcript here).

My buddy, Jen In Real Life, is a vibrant, energetic ball of fire. I love her.

And here we have the infamous Bacon (featuring pink headband), alongside my crush, Benjamin Teal.

Then I met Cathe. Holy cow, I was geeked! You will officially be inducted into The Bad Ass Club with her workouts.

I also hung out with Run Wifey Run, Renee J. Ross and Determined To Be Fit (not pictured). Sa-weet!
