Open Letter to Chobani: We don’t want your GMOs

Dear Chobani,

We were homies. We were pals. I fed you to my stomachs daily. All was right with the world. I spread the word about your awesomeness to my wonderful reader-friends who visit the Yum Yucky blog. You gave me free samples to try out. Thanks for that. You provided free product to give away to my readers. I appreciate that, too. And I’ve most certainly spent my own cold hard cash on many of purchases of Chobani at the grocery store. My Greedy Baby sang your praises on video. To this day she still claims that Chobani catapulted her to rockstar fame (no, seriously).

But Greedy Baby will get no more Chobani. And my own praise of you has gone silent.

Why has our friendship turned foe? When I heard that you use milk from cows who are fed GMOs, I thought maybe that was inaccurate. I honestly thought it was a mistake. Chobani is “natural”, after all.

Sigh. But the news was true. Disappointment set in fast. So I waited. And I wondered how you would fix this problem. Surely you would fix it fast. But you haven’t. I’ve yet to hear of any firm plans you have to come out with a GMO-free line of yogurt. That’s why I was forced to break up with you.

chobani comments Open Letter to Chobani: We dont want your GMOs Your Facebook page has become a public relations nightmare. I don’t feel sorry for you.

So now what? Unless you predict to roll out a toxin-free product immediately, I have a few predictions of my own:

Your brand will suffer. It already has.You will continue to get hammered in social media by people who care about this issue. The demand for no-GMOs will spread among consumers. People who are still eating your yogurt right now will catch on to this issue and stop buying your product. You will lose money. You are already are. But it’s going to get worse.Customer loyalty will continue to deteriorate.A growing number of consumers will discover non-GMO brands like Voskos and Stonyfield. These companies will take advantage of your slowness to act on the GMO issue, and rightly so.Chobani will be considered no different than any other company out there who pimps a GMO-laced product; slow to act on providing consumers what they want — NO GMOs!

Please fix this problem. Please fix it right now. I really do like the tastiness of your yogurt, but this is the end.

My letter to a littler misfit.

This post is in no way original (it’s been done by many others as ‘a letter to my younger self’)

This post was entirely sparked by the Tornado.   It was, in roundabout way, her idea.

It’s a reminder when we think little eyes & ears are NOT paying attention they are (“Mama I know that shirt! That’s the same shirt from the long time ago picture!!”)

It’s a reminder I sorely needed no matter how much peers have influence we, adult types, have more (“Do you remember being little like that? Were you the same like now? Tell me! Tell me!”)

Or so Im praying choosing to believe.

(In the mountains of North Carolina after 9 days camping & climbing)

Dear littler me,

You’re twenty three.

And yeah.

You’re pretty damn proud of yourself.

You’ve graduated from college (None too auspiciously though.  Someday you’ll regret the fact you “read” 4 or 5 novels the night before many of your major’s exams.  Not only could you have done far better in school, but you’ll end up re-purchasing and REALLY reading all the books later anyway.).

You’ve lost the beer, pizza & junk food weight and are in that LOOK AT ME! I HAVE BABY MUSCLES!! stage.

The great news is you’re able to maintain the loss.  The not-so-good news is it will take you eons of removing foods & tweaking consumption to learn you cant tolerate gluten.

If you could see your way to relinquishing some of your beloved processed crap (Hello Snackwells you consume by the boxfull) this process would unfold far more smoothly.

Real foods.  Sans labels.

Easy enough to say—will take you lots and LOTS of trial & error to realize.

Oh, and  that Susan Powter & her baked potatoes & bread by the loaves? She’s not really your friend.  That’s what will both make you feel terrible & look skinnyfat very soon.

Meditation and silence is what your body really needs and what will make you healthy inside & out.

Slow down.  Make time to notice and pay attention to what & who surrounds you.

You know the hike you took before this photo was taken?  The one where you whined the entire way?

PAY ATTENTION to the joke the boy (BTW you dont marry him) youre camping with made.

The one about hiking being G-d’s stairmaster.

He has a point.

Go outside more. Pay attention to what your body is asking for.  It’s not the stairmaster.

Notice nature.  Dont constantly distract yourself *from* yourself.

The silence can & will be scary and deafening, but the sooner you do it the sooner you’ll discover what you seek is inside of you.

And stop telling everyone you can take or leave getting married and motherhood.

You end up doing both and finding by ‘limiting’ yourself (as you now refer to it) you grow more than you could ever imagine.

You become more yourself than ever before.

Lastly, but VERY importantly, get yourself another one (or 3) of those fleece tank-tops.

You depart the frigid east coast for Texas (shocking I realize) and count among your few life-regrets you never snagged more.  They make the perfect Texas winter attire.

xo,

Your older, wiser, far happier & comfortable in our skin self

(The Tornado set up the post-workout photo-op. M&Ms bag, no shower, random locale & all.)

As frequently happens with thematic blog posts, Im *way* late to the letter to my younger self soiree.
Have you blogged about this topic already?

PLEASE leave your link in the comments. I’d love to read the post.

Blog-free or simply not done this yet?

What wisdom would you share with your younger self?

Open Letter To All The Skinny Bitches

Dear Skinny Bitches,

Hey, gurrrls! How you doooin’? Now please don’t get bent outta shape. You should know damn well I’m not a hater. I use that term bitch in a comradery-friendly kinda way, as in “Where are all my bitches at!?” Okay? Now for the sake of this here letter, I consider all you skinny bitches to be lumped in one of two categories:

Skinny Bitch #1) the bitch who cares about her health, works on her fitness and chews on good meals while keeping the sweets and other junk food shenanigans (and alcoholic beverages) to a decent minimum. She is not just slim; she’s also toned, has physical strength, and is healthy on the inside.

Skinny Bitch #2) this bitch takes her slim physique for granted like she’s aesthetically invincible for all time. It’s not that she doesn’t care about her health – she just doesn’t think much about it. And why should she? She eats like sh!t but can still throw on a bikini or skinny jeans with absolutely zero fatty interference. But little does this bitch know, her habits are gonna catch up to her. She could be pimp slapped with a muffin top at any point in time.

I used to be Skinny Bitch #2, so I’m in no way judging you. This is more of a go-tell-it-on-the-mountain and scream it loud throughout all of Slimville that your skinny-bitching may not last if you don’t do something about it right now. I’m writing to encourage you to savor what you have while creating good habits to help maintain your Bitchdom even after you (maybe) get knocked up or just get older and have to fight a slowing metabolism. If that happens, first comes the stomach, then the thighs and ass might start to spread. That’s exactly what happened to me. Why? Because I ignored anything and everything that had to do with living a healthy lifestyle. Dammit!

Oh, my dear Skinny Bitches. It is easier to maintain what you have right now rather than have to work really hard to reclaim it. And let me tell ya, if you have to work to get it back, it NEVER ends up looking quite the same as when you had it the first time around – especially when you’re older. So just appreciate what you have and care for your body from the inside out. Don’t ignore a healthy lifestyle just because your ass is skinny right now. If you do not heed my warnings, you’re gonna be saying, Woe is me! Gone are the slim days that I took for granted when I was eating bacon cheeseburgers and curly fries in my size 4 jeans.

Now get back out there and keep enjoying what you’ve got, bitches. Just be smarter about it from now on.

Love,

Josie
