Plastic Surgery after Extreme Weight Loss | Weight Loss Helps

Plastic Surgery after Extreme Weight Loss

Article by Daniel Beasley

Many people who are obese strive to lose the extra weight, only to be disappointed after the weight is lost. They are disappointed because after their weight loss surgery or natural weight loss, they have excess skin. That skin causes them to be unable to see the results they got from the weight loss.

Because of that, many people are choosing to go to a plastic surgeon for body contouring. When they choose this method for excess skin removal, they are able to get a comprehensive solution to the sagging and excess skin that is on their body.

With body contouring, a plastic surgeon will do two things. First, the surgeon will work to improve the tissue that supports fat and skin. Often after large weight loss, that tissue is lumpy, so the surgeon will work to smooth it back out.

Then, the surgeon will go through a surgical process for excess skin removal. The process will include a lower body lift, arm lift, and thigh lift.

There are some things patients must keep in mind before they go through body contouring surgery for excess skin removal. They need to make sure their weight is stable, as they do not want to continue to lose weight after the surgery as that could cause excess skin to reappear.

The right candidate will also not go through a weight gain, as that can reduce the effects of body contouring surgery. Also, good candidates are healthy and will be able to recover from the surgery in a short period of time.

Many people find that weight loss surgery or natural weight loss is not enough in the quest for the body they want. Because of that, people are using plastic surgeons for excess skin removal so they can have pride in their bodies. For most, body contouring is the last step needed in order to get the body they want.

Weight loss questions and plan? | Weight Loss Helps

Question by ?love’s star;;?: Weight loss questions and plan?
If I start this diet tomorrow and end it in a month or two and will I/can I lose 10 to 15 pounds (5~7kg)? And, my last question, do you think I’d be getting everything my body needs? Should I take vitamins, eat a protein bar, and/or bump up the calories?

- walking 6 miles on saturday and sunday (I go about 4 mph)
- 1,000 skips on an unweighted jump rope each night
- eating 1000 to 1200 calories of fruits, veggies, lean meats (mainly tuna and chicken), and special K cereal (normal)
- basic stretches everyday
- no junk food, no soda (*cries* not even diet soda), nothing processed
- only drink water and tea (w/o any sugar, just plain ole’ tea, not exactly green though, just tea)

Info/stats:
Age: 15
Weight: 122~5 pounds (different scales say different things)
Height: 5’4?
BMI: 21.6
BMR: 1400-ish
Trouble areas: Butt and hips (Exercises to help these areas are needed. Suggestions?)

NOTES:
* I made this diet so I would eat well, do exercises that I won’t hate and not get bored and quit, no no need to menation getting bored with “such a limited selection of food”.
* I’m a small framed woman/girl, and as of now I do little to no exercise, so I’ve heard 1000 calories is fine to consume, I’ll bump it up to 1300-1500 calories (More?) once I get into my exercise regiment and keep it at 1000~1200 on non-exercising days.
*I do NOT, repeat, DO NOT want to go into this “starvation mode” thing I hear about, so please tell me if I will be going into it, so I can replan now!

* I know I’m normal weight. I know if I lose 10~15 pounds I’ll be 110 to 105 pounds (which isn’t really my goal, my goal is 107 (107 is still normal weight for 5?4' or another goal is when I look good and feel great). I’m aware of what I am doing and will stop if this diet makes me sick in any way, shape or form.

Thank you to everyone who gives a useful answer. : )

Sounds to me like you have done your research and that sounds like an aggressive yet sensible way to lose weight. As for if you are or are not going to lose 10 or 15lbs in a certain amount of time, well, that’s not possible to say :) I would suggest you aim to lower your percentage fat rather than your weight as it will give you a better indication of how well your regime is working. You are not substantially overweight enough to be able to measure by weight. Go for it! I get the feeling you will achieve your goals!

Hoodia As An Aid To Weight Loss | Weight Loss Helps

Hoodia As An Aid To Weight Loss

Article by Roy Thomsitt

What Is Hoodia?

It is more than 2 years now since hoodia became well known in the public domain. Television programmes on both sides of the Atlantic in 2003/4 saw to that.

If you have not heard of hoodia before, or have but do not really know what it is, let me explain. Hoodia is a cactus-like succulent. I have seen it described as an ugly cactus, but as cacti go, I would say it is about average in the looks department. Not that its looks really matter; you will not be going up to it and giving it a loving hug. You might, however, want to give it a little bite, whether out of curiosity, or because you have heard it can help you lose weight.

I should be a little more precise before I continue. The hoodia plant that has recently been associated with weight loss potential is hoodia gordonii, one of a large group of succulent plants called Asclepiadaceae.

How Can Hoodia Help You Lose Weight?

Hoodia Gordonii grows in the Kalahari desert in Africa, and has done for thousands of years. It clearly thrives in very high temperatures, but it also takes many years to mature. Also living in the same region are the San Tribesmen, or Bushmen. The San are amongst the world’s oldest and most primitive tribes.

The San have been eating hoodia plants for thousands of years. Now, I am sure your vision of an African desert tribe would not be anything like obese Americans or Europeans, for whom hoodia has been mooted as a possible weight loss aid. In fact, you probably imagine quite the opposite, a lithe and slender people struggling to survive on desert morsels. You would be right. How, then, can the San’s inclusion of hoodia in their diet have anything to do with weight loss aids?

The answer is in the reason they have, for all those generations, been eating the hoodia cactus. Their quest for food in the shifting sands of the Kalahari Desert has always meant going on long hunting expeditions. Instant gratification for hunger pangs was not usually on the menu, so with their hunting trips lasting for days, they ate hoodia gordonii because it suppressed those hunger pangs for long periods. No hunger pangs meant no overwhelming desire to eat. That made the whole hunting process that much more bearable.

You are probably now beginning to see how hoodia might come to the aid of the obese and overweight. Those who have trouble controlling their eating urges may have a close ally in Hoodia Gordonii. If a dose of the plant can suppress their desire to eat, to stop them feeling hungry at meal times, then surely they will find it easier to cut back on calorie intake?

That was the theory that sparked scientific studies of Hoodia Gordonii.

fatlosstips.fatloss-tips.nethere are a few tips for you to follow in order to achieve fast, yet healthy weight loss by speeding up your metabolism. 1. Schedule your meals It is important that you schedule your meals so that you get the most out of your food in terms of energy and nutrients, with the least amount of fat being stored in your body. Remember that majority of the calories you eat in a day should be consumed early in the morning. This way, you have lots of energy. It is also ideal to eat four to six small meals instead of three large meals a day to promote better metabolism and fast, easy weight loss. 2.Eat the right foods Eating right is probably the biggest factor in any weight loss diet. Not only should you schedule what you eat, but you should watch what you eat too. It is recommended that you eat lots of spicy foods since they help in speeding up your metabolism as well. 3. Amount of food Another thing to consider in your fast easy weight loss diet is how much you eat. Make sure that you consume the average recommended amount of 2000 calories per day. By doing so, you ensure that your body has enough energy to get through the day but at the same time, you do not store excess fat. 4. Do strength exercises One of the best types of training that you can do if you want to lose weight is strength exercises. This promotes muscle growth which uses up fat cells in your body. It also helps in promoting better metabolism. 5. Regular change In line with strength

Fish Oil Helps with Weight Loss During Chemotherapy

HomeHomeFitness and NutritionNutrition InformationFats and Oils Information

Information provided by Wiley-Blackwell - Published: 2011-02-28

A new analysis has found that supplementing the diet with fish oil may prevent muscle and weight loss that commonly occurs in cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy.

Published early online in Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the study indicates that fish oil may help combat cancer-related malnutrition.

Chemotherapy can cause cancer patients to lose muscle mass and become malnourished, leading to fatigue, a decreased quality of life, an inability to receive necessary treatments, and shorter survival.

Researchers suspect that supplementing the diet with fish oil - which contains omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid - may help patients maintain or gain muscle. To test the hypothesis, Vera Mazurak, PhD, of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, led a team that compared the effects of fish oil with that of standard care (no intervention) on weight, muscle, and fat tissue in newly referred non-small cell lung cancer patients.

The trial involved 16 patients who took fish oil (2.2 grams of eicosapentaenoic acid/day) and 24 patients who did not. The study ran until patients completed their first-line (initial) chemotherapy treatments, which lasted about 10 weeks. Muscle and fat were periodically measured using computed tomography images. Blood was collected and weight was recorded at the start of the study and throughout chemotherapy.

Patients who did not take fish oil lost an average of 2.3 kilograms whereas patients receiving fish oil maintained their weight.

Patients with the greatest increase in eicosapentaenoic acid concentration in the blood following fish oil supplementation had the greatest gains in muscle.

Sixty-nine percent of patients in the fish oil group gained or maintained muscle mass.

Comparatively, only 29 percent of patients in the standard care group maintained muscle mass, and overall, patients in this group lost 1 kilogram of muscle.

No difference in total fat tissue was observed between the two groups.

The authors concluded that nutritional intervention with two grams of fish oil per day provides a benefit over standard care, allowing patients to maintain their weight and muscle mass during chemotherapy. "Fish oil may prevent loss of weight and muscle by interfering with some of the pathways that are altered in advanced cancer," said Dr. Mazurak. "This holds great promise because currently there is no effective treatment for cancer-related malnutrition," she added. Dr. Mazurak noted that fish oil is safe and non-toxic with virtually no side effects. It may be beneficial to patients with other forms of cancer and other chronic diseases that are associated with malnutrition, as well as to elderly individuals who are at risk for muscle loss.
