Yoplait Original 99% Fat Free Yogurt (Cherry Orchard) Review

Yoplait Original Cherry Orchard Fat Free Yogurt

There have been many Yoplait Reviews", but never of the Yoplait Original 99% Fat Free Yogurts. So naturally, when I received a few samples to try out, I set out to remedy this situation, starting first with the Yoplait Original 99% Fat Free Cherry Orchard Yogurt.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 container (6 ounces)
Calories: 170
Total Fat: 1.5 grams, 2%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram, 5%
Sodium: 85 mg, 4%
Carbohydrates: 33 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 26 grams
Protein: 5 grams

My first thought when I tasted a spoonful was, "Holy Cow, this yogurt is SOOO SWEET!" Thanks for taking out the fat Yoplait, and still leaving us with a creamy yogurt; and thanks for all the cherry which seemed to be in every spoonful. BUT Yoplait, PLEASE ease up on the sugar. It's way too sweet ... overwhelmingly so - I drank almost a gallon of water after consuming a 6 ounce container. Everything else about this cherry yogurt is on point, so again Yoplait, I implore you, get rid of the headache inducing sweetness, which will also lower the amount of calories - a win win situation, don't you think?!

Each 6 ounce container of Yoplait Original 99% Fat Free Cherry Orchard Yogurt provides 170 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat, 1 gram of which is saturated (2% and 5% of the daily value), 26 grams of sugars and 5 grams of protein. There is also 50% of the daily requirements for calcium and vitamin D.

The ingredients are, Cultured Pasteurized Grade A Low Fat Milk, Sugar, Cherries, Modified Corn Starch, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Nonfat Milk, Kosher Gelatin, Tricalcium Phosphate, Citric Acid, Colored with Beet Juice Concentrate, Pectin, Natural Flavor, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3.

As I mentioned before, I received samples of Yoplait Original 99% Fat Free Cherry Orchard Yogurt to review, but it's typically $0.75 for a 6 ounce container at my local grocery store. But this is not something I would buy - apart from being way too sweet, there's simply too much sugars and too many calories.

Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix (Chocolate Cherry Blend) Review

Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix (Chocolate Cherry Blend)

The Chocolate Cherry Blend of Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix contains roasted peanuts, cherry-flavored dried cranberries, granola clusters, milk chocolate candies and coca roast almonds. As I had already tried another variety of Emerald Breakfast on the Go - the Breakfast Blend (Review) - I was already prepared NOT to try having this for breakfast on the go, and instead, it was treated as just a light after-workout snack.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 pouch (51 grams)
Calories: 240
Total Fat: 13 grams, 21%
Saturated Fat: 2.5 grams, 13%
Sodium: 80 mg, 3%
Carbohydrates: 26 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 14%
Sugars: 17 grams
Protein: 6 grams

When you think of it that way, then you don't expect it to be too filling, and indeed it wasn't. A 51 gram pouch of mostly granola, just isn't enough to satisfy anything more than a child's snacking needs - and actually, it works beautifully for that purpose. As for the taste, I loved the smoky Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds (Review), but wish there was more - and the cherry-flavored cranberries were like sweet chewy nuggets, which provided a nice contrast to all the crunchiness of the granola and nuts (I have no clue why they didn't just call this variety "Chocolate Cranberry Blend" and forget all this cherry-flavored stuff). I also liked that the granola were in big clusters, which meant you could get a little bit of everything in a mouthful.

Coupons.com

Each 51 gram pouch of Chocolate Cherry Blend of Emerald Breakfast on the Go Nut & Granola Mix provides 240 calories from 13 grams of total fat (21% of the daily value), 2.5 grams of which is saturated (13% of the DV), 3 grams of fiber (14% of the DV), 6 grams of protein and 17 grams of sugars. That's 8 grams less sugar than the Breakfast Blend (Review), as well as 2x the protein, but also 5 grams more total fat and 30 more calories.

The ingredients list is not all-natural - there is the artificial sweetener acesulfame K, as well as a number of artificial colors. I purchased a box with 6 pouches for $3.18, and don't think I would buy this again - too much total fat for such a small snack, plus I'm not wowed by the ingredients list, but really, for 240 calories, I could find a much more filling snack.

BumbleBar Organic Energy Bar (Cherry Chocolate) Review

BumbleBar Organic Energy Bar (Cherry Chocolate)

BumbleBars are gluten free, vegan organic energy, sesame bars. So far, we've reviewed Lushus Lemon and the Chai with Almonds, both of which are mighty tasty. The company sent me a few more varieties to try out and since there are a few chocolholics in the house, they almost snuck off with the Cherry Chocolate flavor. Luckily, I managed to get it back, so I could do a review.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (40 grams)
Calories: 180
Total Fat: 10 grams, 16%
Saturated Fat: 3 grams, 16%
Sodium: 105 mg, 4%
Carbohydrates: 19 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugars: 14 grams
Protein: 4 grams

I think this might be my favorite BumbleBar flavor. The taste of chocolate is oh so yummy, and surprisingly, it doesn't taste too sweet. There is also a scent of cocoa powder, which is very enticing. It's weird, but one thing I notice about BumbleBars is that they all have an aroma, which is usually related to the flavor. The cherries are present all throughout, and they add a nice change in texture from the the crunchy sesame seeds from which this bar is made.

The ingredients in the Cherry Chocolate BumbleBar are, Organic Agave, Organic Sesame Seeds, Organic Dried Cherries, Organic Dairy Free Chocolate Chips (Organic Cocoa Liquor, Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Sugar, Soy Lecithin {GMO FREE}), Organic Coconut, Organic Flax Seeds, Organic Almonds, Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Chocolate Extract, Organic Cherry Flavor, Sea Salt, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, A Natural Source Vitamin E Used to Protect Freshness.

Each 40 gram bar provides 180 calories, 10 grams of total fat, 3 grams of which is saturated (16% of the daily value), 14 grams of sugars, 4 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein. This bar has more saturated fat & more sugar than the other flavors reviewed, and for this reason, I might not reach for this as often as the other flavors. Still, I'm a fan of this bar and BumbleBars in general - organic, all natural ingredients list, and hefty enough size to make it last. You can buy these bars online at the Bumblebar website - $1.80 on sale currently, regular price of $2.00. Totally worth it!

18 Rabbits Cheeky Cherry Chocolate Organic Granola Bar

18 Rabbits Cheeky Cherry Chocolate Wheat Free Organic Granola Bars

I received a few 18 Rabbits Cheeky Cherry Chocolate Organic Granola Bars in a bar swap with a friend. The name really caught my attention as being quite unique (okay - maybe a bit weird). Before I opened it up, I looked up the company online to find out more. The mission of 18 Rabbits is to bring food back to its roots through simple authentic granola & bars. All their products are made with organic ingredients and are wheat free.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (54 grams)
Calories: 240
Total Fat: 10 grams, 15%
Saturated Fat: 4.5 grams, 23%
Sodium: 10 mg, 0%
Carbohydrates: 33 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugar: 12 grams
Protein: 4 grams

I thought this bar had a nice and hearty oat background from the dense compilation of 18 Rabbits Gracious Granola. It is all held together in a delightfully smooth, pliable and chewy (not gooey) way by naturally sweet maple syrup, butter, safflower/sunflower oil, tapioca syrup and dates. This combination of ingredients provides just enough sweetness without overwhelming the wholesome texture and flavor profile that the hearty granola provides. The Cheeky Cherry Chocolate bar brought things up a notch or two with chewy cranberries and smooth chunks of chocolate.

Each 18 Rabbits Cheeky Cherry Chocolate Organic Granola Bar provides 240 calories, 10 grams of total fat, which includes 4.5 grams of saturated fat (15% and 23% of the daily value), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 12 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein.

18 Rabbit Granola Bars are available at Amazon.com (12 for $24.99). These are not the cheapest bars out there, and the total fat content is a tad high for me, but the ingredients list is stellar, so these are something special that I buy from time to time. Have you heard of or tried this brand of granola bars before?

Luna Protein Chocolate Cherry Almond Bar

Luna Protein BarsWe love Luna Bars around here and I keep them on hand for when the afternoon munchies threaten to slow me down during the midst of a crazy day. The Luna Protein Bar (Chocolate Peanut Butter) really rocked my world, so I was curious to see if the other varieties would be equally as delicious.

Like the Chocolate Peanut Butter variety, this Chocolate Cherry Luna Protein Bar had a chewy texture. In addition, almonds and cherries were scattered throughout the chewy nougat, which made for a delightful texture and flavor profile.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (45 grams)
Calories: 180
Total Fat: 7 grams, 11%
Saturated Fat: 3.5 grams, 18%
Sodium: 105 mg, 4%
Carbohydrates: 21 grams
Fiber: 3 grams, 12%
Sugar: 15 grams
Protein: 12 grams

Each 45 gram Luna Protein Chocolate Cherry Almond Bar provides 180 calories, 7 grams of total fat, 3.5 grams of saturated fat, 12% of the daily value for fiber (3 grams). 15 grams of sugars and 12 grams of protein.

Luna Bars are made with all natural ingredients, 70% of which are organic. The protein is a lend of Soy Protein Isolate and Whey Protein Concentrate - the 1st ingredient in the list.

This flavor is delicious, and although the saturated fat is a little too much, the amount of protein and fiber in this reasonably sized bar is pretty good. Luna Protein Chocolate Cherry Almond Bars can be purchased online at $18.75 for a case of 12. However, the unique taste and texture of Luna Protein Bars compels me to encourage you to try one from your local grocery store before buying a whole case.
