One of my favorite Ritx Cracker" replacements is pita chips. Ritz has partially hydrogenated oils - and with a serving being just 5 crackers, I'm pretty sure the trans fats start adding up quick. World Classics Trading Company Sea Salt Baked Pita Chips have rocked my world, along with Stacys Simply Naked Bagel Chips, but I wanted to try something new, so I scooped up a box of the all natural Sensible Portions Original Sea Salt Pita Bites.

In comparison to Stacy's Pita Chips, I'd have to say that there is room for both of these crunchy snacks in my pantry. Stacy's satisfies a chip craving, while Sensible Portions offers up more of a cracker-like creation. In fact, my first impression was that these were more similar to Saltine Crackers than Ritz, but without overwhelming your taste buds with an abundance of salt. The pita chip acts as the perfect vessel to embody the subtle saltiness, providing a hearty, crispy, crunchy base. The characteristic flavor of the pita is allowed to shine through just perfectly. Furthermore, a touch of oil gives the crackers a little oomph in the flavor department and an appealing sheen.
These make for a great snack solo, but are also a prime culprit for any topping that your mind can dream up. Think of them as an open canvas. I would imagine that Tribe All Natural Hummus (Sweet Roasted Red Peppers) would be a nice addition.
sponsorEach reasonable 9 cracker serving (28 grams) of Sensible Portions Original Sea Salt Pita Bites provides 120 calories, 3.5 grams of total fat (5% of the daily value), no saturated fat, 220mg of sodium (9% of the DV), 1 gram of fiber (4% of the DV), no sugar and 4 grams of protein. The ingredients list for these "all natural" pita bites includes, "Enriched Flour [Unbleached Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic Acid], Water, Yeast, Sunflower Oil, and Sea Salt."
I paid $2.50 for a 5-oz box of Sensible Portions Original Sea Salt Pita Bites. That is not exactly cheap, but it is a price that I would be willing to pay again because the all natural, baked reward makes that $2.50 worth it!
