Biggest Loser Diet Tops U.S. News and World Report Best Diet Rankings

Diet co-authored by Cheryl Forberg, RD ranked No. 2 for weight loss, and No.1 for diabetics

U.S. News and World Report Badge

U.S. News and World Report ranked The Biggest Loser Diet among the top diets for weight loss on its annual list of The Best Diets. The Biggest Loser Diet ranked No. 2 among all tested diets for weight loss, and was named the No. 1 diet for fighting and managing diabetes by the prestigious magazine.

Cheryl Forberg — a Registered Dietitian, James Beard award-winning chef, New York Times best-selling author, and Nutritionist for The Biggest Loser for 12 seasons, co-authored the diet and since the show’s debut in 2004 to season 12 2011, she individually counseled each of The Biggest Loser’s 250 contestants on how to transform their eating and cooking habits — consequently helping to change their lives.

Forberg has long touted The Biggest Loser Diet’s benefits to diabetics. In fact, one-in-four contestants have diabetes when they report The Ranch: But they all leave without it.

In my world everyone reacts with this much enthusiasm.

I needed to capture Little Bean’s reaction properly. This happens in my house almost daily.

Happy Friday!

In my world kids learn by example.

Family Cobra Pose from the Front

Yup, that’s all three of us doing cobra for #YogaADay. I’ve written about this before, but these two boys are my ultimate inspiration. I’m not going say everything I do, I do for them because, well, that’s a lie. They may have been the impetus that got the ball rolling, but I’m selfish. The choices I make, I make for me. The fact that they will learn from my example is just a bonus.

In My World Nobody Makes You Laugh Like Big Brother

Last night the boys and I decided on breakfast for dinner. We ate. We talked. We, well, see for yourself…

These are the moments I never, ever want to forget.

Seeing the world through the Tornado’s eyes.

Her feet are catching up to mine!

Ive always said (to Ren Man, to friends, to *anyone* who would listen) all that matters to me is the kind of person the Tornado grows up to be.

I dont care how much money she makes.

I dont care what profession she chooses.

I dont care if she gets married or has children or any of the’ traditional’ stuffs.

I care she learns and truly grasps the notion life is as simple as do unto others.

I care she learns & hones the ability to put herself in the place of the other and employ empathy.

It was only after I became a mother I learned in order to teach these concepts to her I needed to *stop* & view the world through her eyes first.

Im taking about this over at the FILA blog today.

Ive taught Sunday School.

Ive taught swimming.

Ive been a trainer.

I am a mother.

The one thing all my ‘teaching’ endeavors have in common is the fact none of them “clicked” or fell into place until I *stopped* and considered how each of my students (or the Tornado) viewed his or her world.

It’s amazing what you learn & discover when you make the effort to view your surroundings through the eyes of another.

Friend, co-worker, boss, family member, acquaintance or child.

US News and World Reports Ranks the Diets

U.S. News and World Reports Ranks the Diets. For the first time ever the magazine looked at popular diet plans. The diets were rated for nutritional completeness and whether they provided enough calories. The winner… the DASH diet.

Here’s the complete report. Take a look.

Now here’s how I rank the diets that AREN’T on the US News and World Report List:

Best Diet For Looking Good in Skinny Jeans: The Genetics Diet. This diet is great for people who have narrow hips, were parented by tiny people and who just “forgot to eat.”  The trouble is if you’re human sized you’ll have to get new parents before you start this. Oh and a reality check up.

Best Diet for Being Over Forty: Be Dara Torres. Seriously – WTF. Olympic swimmer over 40 rates really effective on the works like crazy for Olympic swimmers over 40 scale. You’ll have to tell your boss you can’t be to work because of the whole “training eight hours a day” thingy.

Best Diet for Regular Women: Go on Dancing With the Stars. Regular women like Rickie Lake and Kirstie Alley are seeing AMAZING results. Operators at the casting department are standing by….

Best Diet For the Holidays: The Overbooked HOLIDAY DASH Diet. It’s the fantastic upside to overbooking yourself to the point of not being able to sit down because you’re so busy you literally have to run errands while running errands. THAN pick up stomach flu while agreeing to hosting family and neighborhood get togethers while decorating your entire house and running errands. Oh and throw in some random yelling for extra muscle toning. What?

Enter Into The World of Kale Chips Splendor

I’ve been doing it all week. As soon as I get in the door after work and maneuver through the child-obstacles, I get right into the kitchen and bake me up some kale chips. These things have been keeping me from a bad case of Pre-Dinner Greediness Disease all week.

The day before my first batch of kale chips, I had eaten an entire sleeve of Ritz Crackers before dinner. So do ya get me? I’ve probably saved myself a good 800 calories this week by whipping up some kale chips instead of grazing mindlessly on other stuff. Kale chips’ crunchy-saltiness is perfect for satisfying me before dinner. It does the trick, yo!

And you gotta check out kale’s profile on World Healthiest Foods. It’s mind boggling how nutrient-pack it is. I even like to chomp on kale raw and uncooked. And it’s only 36 calories for one cup!

So here’s what you do to make the Kale Chips.

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.Tear kale into pieces (unless you buy a bag of kale that’s already cut up). Some people pick the leaves off the stem, but I think it’s just fine with the stem on. I eat that part, too. You decide for yourself.Dump 3 generous handfuls of kale into a large mixing bowl. Be sure to include enough kale, because (just like spinach) the kale shrinks down when heated.Drizzle approximately 2-3 tsp olive oil onto the kale and then salt to taste. Mix it all up by tossing with your hands or some other leaf-tossing object. If you find the leaves are a bit too oily or salty, just add more kale to compensate. Problem solved. But be careful not to over-oil, because the final product won’t come out right.Transfer kale onto cookie sheet(s).

My pre-baked kale, oil-drizzled and lightly salted.

Bake for approx 15-20 minutes. Exact cooking time depends on your oven, so check the kale after 15 minutes to determine if they’re crispy yet. But not burnt!

Crispy, salty delight!

You can also get fancy and sprinkle your kale with Parmesan or other seasonings, but my fanciness ratio isn’t high enough, because I haven’t done that yet. Special thanks to Coco for inspiring me to take the Kale Chips plunge. Go see how her batch of kale chips turned out. BOOM!

The World Didn’t End!

No I’m not talking about the rapture. ;)

I disconnected today, staying away from twitter and facebook. You guys probably think I’m crazy but it was hard! Especially after FitBloggin when there’s just so much chatter going on.

Shutting down the social media let me knock a few things off the old to-do. I had a project deadline, I wrote my post for baby’s First Year and I cleaned up, ummm, about 3 weeks of laundry sprinkled all over bedroom-it was bad.

Right now I’m trying NOT to freak out about the over full inbox or the kabillion other things I need/want to do.

Repeat to self a few times… I will do what I can when I can.

That’s my version of serenity now. :)

In other news.. Tomorrow is weigh in and I’m freaking out a bit. Wondering if I’ll see a gain or loss after the conference. I did run around like crazy but I also ate a bit more junk than normal. We’ll see.

2 egg western omelet (onion, peppers, ham) no cheeseOne of my favorite breakfasts. Planning a review of these. I really do like them. Canned Lentil Soup and TOO many Ritz CrackersFrankly, I was angry at the husband and I kind of entered a weird mindless zone. Before I knew it half a sleeve of crackers were gone. Totally craving something sweet and this cold apple hit the spot. Pork chop with brown rice, butter beans and broccoliI’m hoping to get this one pot recipe up on GreenLiteBites. I wanted to do it tonight but I’m just too tired. Ok, this is becoming a family obsession. We love our McDs cones! It’s the husband’s fault. ;)I was putting them in the Little Guys lunch and just finished the rest. I was kinda a hungry and wanted something indulgent. This totally hit the spot. Better on the water and just took my vitamin BECAUSE of this journal! It reminded me. :)

Disclosure: Got free samples of Larabar at FitBloggin.

Android #1 in PC World Top 100 Tech. ProductsPosted by: Cody HahnOctober 27, 2010PCWorld has taken the entire world of tech. that has been revealed in 2010. HDTVs, phones, tablets, PCs, e-book readers, storage, software, services, apps, digital cameras, camcorders, printers, just about anything high tech and picked the top 100 best technology products for 2010.  Look who is number one!

Here are the top 5 tech products and services:

1. Google Android 2.2
2. Apple iPad
3. Amazon Kindle (third generation)
4. Netflix
5. Samsung Galaxy Tab

#1 Android topping the list does not surprise us a bit but I’m sure Apple is scrambling to change their pants right about now.  Google is now offering great mobile products which are expected to surpass Apple's iOS in market share by year's end.   Android provides one thing that the iPhone platform can't promise, a flexible browser with Flash 10.1 support, OS-wide voice control and dictation features, and a rapidly expanding app ecosystem just to name a few.

The second place position of the iPad is pretty surprising considering the success in sales the unit has had.  Right now everyone is waiting to see what kind of sales figures the slew of Android tablets coming out this Holiday are going to have.  It is a major win for Google for Android to be rated above the "magical" device.

Third place goes to the new Amazon Kindle another version of their popular E-reader. A ton of improvements over the last version of Kindle. Amazon wants to get their foot in the door before the tablets take over. Look at the improvements
All-New, High-Contrast E Ink Screen – 50% better contrast
Read in Bright Sunlight – No glare
New and Improved Fonts – New crisper, darker fonts
New Sleek Design – 21% smaller body while keeping the same 6" size reading area
17% Lighter – Only 8.5 ounces, weighs less than a paperback
Battery Life of Up to One Month – A single charge lasts up to one month with wireless off
Double the Storage – Up to 3,500 books
Built-In Wi-Fi – Shop and download books in less than 60 seconds
20% Faster Page Turns – Seamless reading
Enhanced PDF Reader – With dictionary lookup, notes, and highlights
New WebKit-Based Browser – Browse the web over Wi-Fi (experimental

Forth place is Netflix. Streaming video service and video-by-mail. Netflix a dominant and growing provider ofstreaming-video movies and TV shows, Netflix came on strong this year with its Watch Instantly service. With release of new mobile apps it looks like Netflix will continue to grow.

Fifth place goes to the Galaxy Tab. The main contender of the 1st generation Android Tabs. This tablet is by far the best available to date. Sleek design with a nice feel and believed to soon be sporting the latest Android OS “Gingerbread” when it is released this holiday season. The iPad is about to have a fight on its’ hands. With a $399 price tag the Galaxy tab is fairly priced and well worth the money. See the Specs in relation to the iPad (below)

Wow, that is a great win for Android. Beating out the iPad and the iPhone. I know it's just one site's list, but it is a pretty popular one. Go Android!
