Hungry vs. Greedy: how my stomachs do battle in the quest to make good food choices

Hey ya’ll. Welcome to the very real world of my stomachs. If you frequently loiter around this place, you know it’s been a little since I talked about that deep, dark realm where the battle to make good food choices is waged daily.

What better way to show you how I do battle on The Field of Stomachs than by giving you some real life examples of a day in the life:

Say what now? I ate breakfast 2 hours ago, but now I’m hungry again? I do my best eat well in the morning to combat unscheduled hunger. But there goes a stomach for ya — always begging like a banshee for more food when it’s not time yet.

On this particular day, my stomachs tried to claim hungry, but I was skeptical about the validity of that claim. Instead of shoving 2nd breakfast into my jaws, I grabbed a fancy flower cup and began to gulp waters. PADDOW!! The hunger disappeared right away. I was able to carry on until lunch without any unnecessary snacking. flower teacup Hungry vs. Greedy: how my stomachs do battle in the quest to make good food choices Conclusion: Either the water did the trick or the flowered cup is real magical ‘n stuff. Haven’t figured it out yet.

Yup. You know how people are. You’re on a roll with good food choices, but here they come bringing you muffins and other high calorie foodstuffs. This situation was a blind-sider. Totally caught me off guard. As you can see from the pic, I did start eating the muffin. But two bites in, I decided the muffin just wasn’t worth it. I’d rather postpone my greediness to gnaw on whole pumpkin pies or an entire sheet cake eaten at the perfectly appointed time.

Instant satisfaction, baby! This snack is so tasty. It gives the illusion of being greedy but you’re really not. The treat also doubles as a sophisticated evening snack to bring about the same wonderful bliss without bamboozling your fitness.

raw honey eggo Hungry vs. Greedy: how my stomachs do battle in the quest to make good food choices Honey is so dang good for you. The Eggo merely serves as a low-calorie vehicle by which to ingest the sweetness.

Nothing makes me more irritable than going to bed hungry or waking up in the middle of the night with a growling stomach. No longer will I force the hubs to cook me a 3-course meal at 11pm. That’s why I keep emergency foodstuffs at the bedside. A little nibbling on some crackers with a gulp of water is pretty handy for telling the stomach to SHUT THE HELL UP! Crackers are ideal because they’re a direct threat to your bed/covers if you eat too many. With every bite you take, it increases the chance you’ll be sleeping in a pile of crumbs. This is my motivation for keeping the cracker nibbling to a minimum. ((snore))

These are just few of the ways I do warfare. I don’t win every single battle, but I’ve trained myself to be on helluva warrior anyway. I don’t get down on myself about the defeats, because seriously: Can anyone ever win ‘em all? All the time?

Disclaimer: I ate ice cream during the writing of this blog post.  O_o

2 Non GMO Foods That Will Make Your Hungry Mouth Happy

Enter into the world of Non GMO splendor. If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of an angel batting its wings, a unicorn’s tail wagging in the wind, and my heavy breathing as I come up for air after each Non GMO gulp & chew. It’s a wonderful world to be in, my friends. Let’s examine this much sought-after place where Non GMO foods dwell. Lean in a little closer. Let me show you what I mean…

THE BETTER CHIP: SPINACH & KALE

better chip 2 Non GMO Foods That Will Make Your Hungry Mouth HappyI’m going to skip all the fancy introductions and get right to the point: Spinach & Kale Better Chips are THE MOST tastiest, THE MOST heartiest, THE MOST satisfying. Made with corn masa and infused with bits of spinach & kale so large, I really can’t call them “bits”. Perhaps “veggie bits on steroids” is a better way to describe it. Your stomach’s life will be complete only after you bite into one and try it for yourself. All other tortilla chips are inferior. I declare this to be fact. If you see these in the store, pick up one bag for yourself and 15 bags for me. I’m not ashamed to admit I hid The Better Chip bag from the greedy family to consume the chips in solitude. If hiding the bag is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

ORGANIC VALLEY MILK

organic valley 2 Non GMO Foods That Will Make Your Hungry Mouth HappyDammit! This milk is expensive — almost $5 for a 1/2 gallon — but since GMO-infested milk was next on my list to eliminate from my home, I had to make that move towards the Organic Valley. Their milk is both organic and non-GMO. It’s sourced from a co-op of family farmers, NOT from a big corporation. We still do almond milk, which is slightly cheaper, yet regular milk has its place in our kitchen.

Check out these statements from Organic Valley:

“The family farmers have not and will never knowingly or willingly utilize genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in any of our products, processes or feed. We have held this position since our inception in 1988.”

“By keeping family farmers on the land, you are protecting your right to choose foods produced the way you want them produced—a way that ensures quality, health, humane animal treatment, and the stewardship of our environment. Because we are a cooperative, we are under no obligation to answer to stockholders demanding higher profits year after year. On the contrary, we listen to nature and the wisdom of generations of organic family farming.”

There you have it. Can ya feel the splendor?

I Can’t Find My Hungry

Is She Greedy? Or Is She Hungry?

(Pssst! There’s a secret Greedy Giveaway at the bottom of this post. Skim-readers and lurkers are invited to join in, too.)

Greedy and Hungry are two separate entities. Let’s just get that straight right now. Greedy is an opt-in kinda thing. It’s the same as Freedom of Speech, except its Freedom of Greedy. And I’m damn proud of that.

But Hungry is totally different. Hungry messes with your mind and sends you into the abyss of “I gotta eat right now or I’m gonna frackin’ die!”

So you see? Hungry is a bastard. For all of my lifetime, my days have been centered around Hungry. I pre-plan and strategize how to beat it to the stomach-punch so it doesn’t cripple my eating emotions and cause a food overdose. But when it does rear it’s head, I’m forced to use brain power to bitch slap it, ‘lest the Hungry beats me useless until I’m eating double portions with my gnawing jaw open extra wide.

I have been a victim of Hungry forevah and forevah.

So why now, all of a sudden, am I not uncontrollably Hungry anymore? What the HELL is going on here, dammit!?

Shakeology is the reason, but my curbed appetite is NOT about me shoving that delicious sh!t down your throat – that’s your own decision to make. If you have questions about how to acquire and throat-shove some Shakeology, just get in touch with me and I’ll help you accomplish that.

This is really about coping with a major affect of Shakeology during this 90 Day Experiment of mine…. I’m just NOT hungry like I used to be. It’s weird and unusual. These events made me do a double-take.

I kinda miss my raging Hungry. It’s been my lifelong companion. It interrupted my everyday and tempted me chomp on crap not good for me. Raging Hungry was my “normal” – that’s the only reason I miss it, but now I’m learning to enjoy a new normal. My mid-mornings are no longer the same. Neither is that 3pm-ish time of day when my stomach used to growl like a pack of rabid sea urchins.

Since the distraction of Hungry is gone, I have some empty spaces in my day. So how do I use this new-found time, since I no longer have to waste it on brain power and strategic eating maneuvers?

I’m not quite sure yet. But I do feel free, like a burden’s off my back. No longer am I compelled to claw my way through the fridge. Unless, of course, I’m being Greedy. And that’s a totally different story.

Please do your part: Congratulate me with happy face slaps and hand claps to celebrate me losing my Hungry. **Five (5) random commenters will score sample packs of Chocolate Shakeology. (winners announced on Monday 12/6/10). GO!
