Cascadian Farms Cereal Whoredom: Cinnamon Crunch and Multi Grain Squares

cascadian Cascadian Farms Cereal Whoredom: Cinnamon Crunch and Multi Grain Squares

When the reality of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) started to sink deep down into my cranium, I thought it meant RIP to my cereal whoredom forever. Admittedly, right now I still buy cereals like Apple Jacks & Froot Loops for the family, but it’s in a weaning-off, dwindling down kind of way.

I haven’t forced them to go cold turkey, yet the purchases of the crap cereal are happening less and less. There will indeed come a time when that stuff won’t be in my house at all.

But alas! Cascadian Farm is cereal whoredom approved.

I’ve been on the lookout for healthy knockoffs of mainstream cereal for the family to stuff into their hungry jaws. In the past it hasn’t gone well. It led to rogue cereals of pure nastiness. But organic companies are finally starting to step up their tasty game.

Cascadian Farm Cinnamon Crunch is an excellent alternative to Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It’s got a light kiss of cinnamon, a nice crunch and less sugar, but still totally satisfying. The amazing thing is, you can taste that it’s organic’y. The absence of artificial crap really shines through and makes it taste that much better.

Cascadian Farm Multi Grain squares is comparable to Multi-Bran Chex, but Cascadian’s flavor is waaaay better and comes with all the tasty perks of organic and non-GMO, along with all their other products (according to their website).

See that! I’m making progress. My family is transitioning away from crap cereal and my own personal cereal whoredom is no longer in jeopardy. It shall remain intact.

Cascadian has some other stuff out, too, like Fruitful O’s and their new Chocolate O’s. But I can’t speak on the taste. I haven’t tried those just yet.

But hold on there! There’s two drawbacks you gotta know about: Cascadian comes in smaller packages and can be pretty dang expensive for the size — close to $4 per box, if not more. But it’s still worth you picking up at least one box if you haven’t already. Give it a try and allow your taste buds to experience the healthy, fanciful flavor. If cereal isn’t your thing, just keep any kids in mind that cling to you frequently. Young children are skilled at cereal hoovering, so you may as well make it better for them.

Nature's Path Organic Love Crunch Cereal Review

Nature's Path Organic Love Crunch Cereal

I received a box of the limited edition Nature's Path Organic Love Crunch Cereal to review. The description on the front of the box read, dark chocolate chunks, raspberry, strawberry, coconut & flax granola. Now as tasty as that sounds, it also seems rather decadent and calorie laden, so I decided to scope out the nutrition facts first.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 3/4 cup (55 grams)
Calories: 260
Total Fat: 9 grams, 14%
Saturated Fat: 2 grams, 10%
Sodium: 25 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 38 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugar: 10 grams
Protein: 5 grams

Each 55 gram (3/4 cup) serving of Nature's Path Organic Love Crunch Cereal provides 260 calories, 9 grams of total fat, 2 grams of which is saturated (14% and 10% of the daily value), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 10 grams of sugars and 5 grams of protein. Unfortunately, that calorie count is way higher than any cereal I would normally consume - give me some Nature's Path Organic Flax Plus Multi Bran Cereal at 110 calories per serving, or Nature's Path Optimum Organic Strawberry & Yogurt Cereal at 170 calories for a 1 cup serving - and I'm good.

But, the taste is phenomenal. The cereal is crunchy (but not as hard as Kashi GoLean Crunch) and the chocolate chunks are plentiful, so they provide a nice change in texture as well as a pop of sweetness. I wish there had been more berry pieces, because they provide a little tartness, but they were few and far between.

The ingredients list is of course, all natural & organic. Nature's Path Organic Love Crunch Cereal can be purchased at Whole Foods (not sure of the retail price but it's usually $4 - $5), but as mentioned before, there are other, less caloric, all natural cereal choices out there. I do love me some Nature's Path products, but this cereal would not be a regular everyday cereal for me.

Organic Food Bar One (Chocolate Macaroon Crunch)

Organic Food Bar One (Chocolate Macaroon Crunch)I'll be the first to admit that the brand name - Organic Food Bar - isn't incredibly inventive, but really, it tells you all you need to know: that these bars are 100% organic. As a chocoholic, one flavor that I was immediately drawn to was the Organic Food Bar One (Chocolate Macaroon Crunch). From the website, "Our Macaroon Crunch harkens back to the homemade macaroons that mom made, the ones you couldn't wait to eat before they cooled. But, Organic Food bar One, Chocolate Macaroon Crunch, contains something very special: probiotics. Each bar is packed with over one billion probiotic cultures, more than ten times the active cultures found in yogurt!"

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1 bar (45 grams)
Calories: 210
Total Fat: 10 grams, 15%
Saturated Fat: 7 grams, 35%
Sodium: 0%
Carbohydrates: 28 grams
Fiber: 6 grams, 24%
Sugar: 19 grams
Protein: 2 grams

I opened up my bar and was greeted with the pleasant aroma of coconut. Unfortunately, I didn't see that much chocolate, and when I bit in, I tasted predominately coconut too. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE coconut but more chocolate would have been nice. That said, this tastes wonderful and it's absolutely delicious. The coconut is moist but not sticky, and the texture is just chewy enough without breaking your jaw or just melting away in your mouth.

The delightfully decadent taste of this Organic Food Bar had me a little fearful of looking at the nutrition facts. So, of course I enjoyed every last bite before I turned the wrapper over. I found that each 45 gram bar provides 210 calories, 10 grams of fat, 7 grams of which is saturated (15% and 35% of the daily value), 6 grams of fiber (24% of the DV), 19 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein.

The ingredients includes Organic Rice Syrup, Organic Coconut, Organic Coconut Almond Granola (Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Barley Flakes, Organic Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Organic Raisins, Organic Almonds, Organic Coconut, Organic Oat Bran, Organic Sunflower Seeds) Organic Agave Nectar, Organic Bio Sprouts™ - Millet, Organic Chocolate Chips (Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Chocolate Liquor, Organic Cocoa Butter), Organic Acacia Fiber and Bacillus Coagulans GBI-30 6086. I listed out all the ingredients because as organic as this is, it's mostly organic sugar & coconut - which accounts for the high fat and sugars.

I bought Organic Food Bar One (Chocolate Macaroon Crunch) on sale for $0.99 cents, and while it's delicious, plus props to them for the probiotics, I could only eat this as a treat with all the sugar & fat. I would go with Attune Dark Chocolate Probiotic Wellness Bars instead.
