Subtitle: What Ive learned after a few days of being 42.

Youre never too old to match.  (It’s hard to tell in the pic below, but our tees match.  She proclaimed us doppelgangers. I swooned.)

The Tornado Kids don’t care if you are gluten free–they still want them some cheap from-the-box-made cake on *your* birthday (and even though we’re detoxed she ATE CAKE.).

Yep. We baked cake-sicles.

Gifts are far, far sweeter when not only bestowed upon you.

Regardless what the media tells me I should feel– I find it far more fascinating than depressing Im 42 and my hands look 42 (ok they look older. I lifeguarded way too long back in the baby oil days to kid myself about this). Monday was a fantastic, family-filled reminder of the fact Im just thankful to be here—wrinkles be damned.

Most of it was in reference to my rip roaring BirthdayMonday, but indeed some of it is in reference to the below.

Book release party post-mortem

The book release party for Chocolate & Vicodin: My Quest for Relief from the Headache that Wouldn’t Go Away was tonight at Flyleaf Books. I had a great time meeting some local readers, signing books and nomming on delicious cupcakes. If you couldn’t make it, you can still order a signed book online. Also, if you’re in the neighborhood, you can stop by Flyleaf Books tomorrow and grab some leftover cupcakes before the booksellers eat them all.

Here are some pics from the signing and of the cupcakes we made at a cupcaking party before the event. Mucho thanks to Big Bro and Sister-In-Law for use of their kitchen, and to Kindly Neighbor for helping, too. Sister-in-Law’s dad is a pharmacist, so we were able to get empty gelatin capsules to fill with color sugar and sprinkles. I promise, I didn’t really drug the audience! The other toppings were Smarties and Good and Plenty. (Good and Plenties? I don’t know the proper plural for that one.)

CHOCOLATE & VICODIN book release party and virtual book signing

I’m happy to announce that the book release party for Chocolate & Vicodin will take place at Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 7pm. That’s the third anniversary of my headache! No, I didn’t plan it way. Sometimes the universe just likes to mess with you like that, or the people who schedule the UNC sports games do. (No game that night!) Stop by and you can meet me, get a signed book before the official release date, munch on some chocolate (no Vicodin, sorry) and ride a unicorn! Ok, all of that is true except for one thing.

I’m also excited to announce that I’m going to do a virtual book signing with Flyleaf Books, the local independent book store. If you want a signed copy of the book, but aren’t local to North Carolina, you’ll be able to order a personally signed copy through Flyleaf Books. You get to support an independent bookstore and I don’t have to mail signed copies out from my bedroom, so we all win! “But, Jennette, I already ordered by book elsewhere!” you say. That’s ok. Most online retailers don’t actually charge you for a pre-ordered book until it ships, so if you want to get a signed copy you can cancel your other order. Or you could buy two copies! (Don’t you want a spare in case you drop one in the bath tub?) We haven’t worked out all the details yet for the virtual signing, so I’d recommend you not cancel your pre-orders until it’s all sorted out and I have a link to give you.
