Yup that’s me. You might not recognize my long hair and the 1 year old "Little Guy" on my hip but those pictures were swiped right from my Weight Loss Progression page.

Some bottom feeder of a company decided they could just use my image as an example for their shady weight loss system. Well, they messed with the wrong blogger.

Don’t ask because I’m not going to give them any attention by linking. I already sent them an email to which they responded….

I wonder how many times that email was sent out. Is it just me or does it sound like a form letter?

I can only assume the images of other people on the page are also bogus. Right? Well here’s the kicker. This was taken directly from their DISCLAIMER page….

Oh really? Well considering Darlene doesn’t exist or at least isn’t ME I’m curious how they would "verify" her success. Hmm wonder if they’d send you a picture? oh.. wait.

As of now I’m STILL on their shady site. It’s been 9 hours.

Needless to say, this pisses me off.

Last year I wrote a post called Do you believe what you see? which focused on airbrushing in magazines but there’s a bigger issue here.

How many times have you watched an infomercial, read an ad in a magazine, admired a success story or testimonial, and considered or bought the product they were selling? I think it’s human nature to WANT to believe these things but the truth is they lie. They lie through their teeth! The stories, the images, the claims, it’s all bogus. If it sounds/looks/appears too good to be true it is.

The only way to lose weight is to eat less and move more. I’m sorry, it simply is. For YEARS I listened to these snake oil salesmen hoping there was a magic pill, some combination of food or a secret I wasn’t aware of. I find myself still mesmerized by the late night infomercials, but this incident was the last straw. Not only do they make crazy outlandish claims but they FAKE their own success stories??

I don’t know. Maybe I’m making a mountain out of a molehill, maybe you all knew this already, but these companies make a lot of money preying off other people’s insecurities, and MAN that makes me angry.

ok. Vent over. Off to see if my image is still there.

I trust that you’ve put on your big girl panties by now (or your big boy jock strap?) and are settling into some improved food and fitness habits. You are officially in week #3 of the Finish What You Started Challenge (yay-zers!) are you’re on your way to the October 31st finish line!

I know some of you have been enjoying your vacations and this caused your Star System to somewhat collapse. I was on Staycation all of last week, complete with food indulgence (Oooo!) and a bit of lazy dazing (Ahhh!) so there was definitely some star implosion going on over here. I earned 23 out of 30 possible stars. Darn. But thank God its a new week with a clean slate!

This Week’s Bonus Stars Challenge

This and every week you have the chance to earn a perfect count of 28 stars for consistency with your food and fitness activities. So what’s this week’s challenge to earn 2 bonus stars?

It’s a double-doozie, my people.

Earn one bonus star for continuing with your minimum of 3 salads for the week.Earn a second bonus star for working on your push-up activities.

**More about the push-up activities: I keep hearing people say, “I wish I could do push-ups”. Well it’s time to stop wishing!! By the time October 31st rolls around, you’re going to be a BEAST at push-ups. When I started out doing push-ups, I could only do one. O-N-E. It really sucked and I was very discouraged. But I worked at it…consistently, and experienced fast gains in my progress. I can now do 75-100 in a workout circuit.

You’re going to experience fast gains, too.

Work on your push-ups 3-4 times this week, but definitely no less than 3 times. Whether you’re doing the girlie ones your knees or the full body version (my tutorial is here), earn the push-ups bonus star by doing this:

1) Make time to actually do the push-ups, and

2) By the end of the week, attempt achieve 1 or more reps than you did on your first day of push-ups. Do you feel the burn, baby!?

Finish It Monday: Getting Started And The Star System Tracking Chart

So here we are at the beginning of it all. Yeah baby!

Today is a week to get organized, start planning and get into the habit of doing something each and EVERY DAY that will keep your progress moving forward so you can finally reach your goals. So are you ready? Close to 100 people have already made the decision to join the Finish What You Started Challenge, and if you’re one of them, you’ve already written down your goals.

As you head into your chosen healthy eating and fitness activities for this week, here are some things to consider:

Don’t overwhelm yourself with the pressure of an “all or nothing” approach. It doesn’t work.Work on becoming awesome at one or two small changes at a time, and don’t beat yourself up for the areas you’re still struggling in.Get strong and consistent in the changes you’re focusing on, then build on that by adding more positive changes.If you mess up and need a do-over, you canNOT quit. Finishers don’t quit. They get up and keep going. That’s the kind of person you are.

A word on Planning: Anything less than a plan is a hit or miss situation. Planning creates a sense of urgency and expectation. It encourages you to be disciplined and consistent so you actually follow through. Your plans will tell you ahead of time what must be done, how it will be done and when you will do it. Planning sets you up for action. And then you take those actions. Each day this week and every day throughout the Challenge, plan to have a daily plan. That’s how stuff gets done.

THE STAR SYSTEM

It’s time to get familiar with the Star System Tracking Chart, a personal system to rate your daily progress and achievements. Each day you will award yourself zero, one or two stars in each category for food and fitness (two stars being the best). This means you can earn up to 2 stars in the Food Category and 2 stars in the Fitness Category for a total of 4 stars in a given day.

Here’s how the ratings translate in each category:

Two stars = Great day!One star = Meh, but still decent.Zero stars = You need a do-over.

You have the opportunity to earn up to 28 stars during a stellar week (4 Stars x 7 Days = 28 stars), plus extra stars in the “other” category of the Star System Tracking Chart for any mini-challenges I dish out to you that you complete successfully.

The star system is for YOU to analyze your progress and pinpoint where you are excelling or need to improve. It’s for you to see just how much work you’re putting in (or lack thereof) that’s either keeping you stagnant or propelling to you the finish.

Here are some “gray area factors” to consider when rating yourself:

A scheduled fitness rest day counts as 2 stars, because rest and recovery is vital to your fitness.Occasional indulgence on sweets, high carbs or fatty foods also counts as 2 stars (what!?), but only when you gnaw in moderation. The key here is “occasional indulgence”. If indulgence turns into an overeating-fest, that would not be 2 stars.Be honest in your ratings. You know without anyone telling you whether you’ve done well or not. If you don’t rate yourself honestly you cannot expect to improve.

Bonus Star activity for this week, August 1 – August 7th: Give yourself 1 bonus star on the Star System Tracking Chart if at the end of this week (on Sunday, August 7th), you consistently logged your stars on the chart each and every day. And yes, I will be nosy and wanna know how many stars you earned. That’s called accountability.

A Q&A between Chelsea Handler and Mark MacDonald

Handler: Seriously, how can eating more meals actually get rid of my muffin top?

MacDonald: I know, it goes against all the dieting rules. We are trained to think, eat less, move more, and lose fat. This may work for a moment, but soon your body stops progressing, because your body actually holds onto fat when you skip meals. The reality is your body is a "re-fuel as it goes" machine. Meaning, you need to eat balanced meals throughout the day to maintain a steady supply of energy. By eating right when you get up, then every 3–4 hours, and then before bed, your blood sugar levels and hormones will stay in balance. This state of balance causes your body to consistently release its stored fat, which then gets burned as energy in your muscle tissue. This is how your muffin top will permanently become a thing of the past!

Handler: You know I love my Belvedere; can I drink on the program and still get lean?

MacDonald: Of course! The last thing I would ever remove from your program is your Belvedere! The cool thing is that making your program part of your world is never about what you cannot have; it is actually about being clear on what you want and then working together to fit that into your program. Belvedere and all alcohol is totally fine in moderation. The trick is to find the right balance with your food, exercise, and alcohol to ensure that you achieve your Body Confidence goals.   • First off, let’s limit drinking to 1–2 times per week, with a max of 2 drinks at a time. Now I know there are all sizes and shapes of drinks, so let’s define a drink as a shot of Belvedere (or any hard liquor), 6 oz of wine (red or white), and 12 oz of beer (preferably light)
  • Second, avoid eating all starchy carbohydrates (rice, pasta, potato, etc.) when you drink. Alcohol actually gets metabolized by the body before food does; so when you eat heavy carbohydrates along with alcohol, your meal contains too many calories and the result is typically extra fat storage (definitely not the goal!)
  • And third, let’s be cautious with drinking before bed, and preferably stop drinking within two hours of bed. Alcohol affects the quality of your sleep and interrupts your sleep cycles. Since you are always on the go, you already know how important your sleep is for your daily energy. Your quality of sleep also affects the speed of your metabolism, which we both know is a big component of your burning body fat and getting and staying lean.

Handler: Mark, you know my schedule gets crazier by the day; how can I make it all work?

MacDonald: Tell me about it! Making your health work is never about doing more; it is actually about becoming better and more efficient at what you do. This way, whether you are going on location to tape Chelsea Lately in Australia, or performing a show at Caesars Palace or just powering through a hectic day in LA, you will have the tools to keep your blood sugar balanced and your muscles optimally activated to burn your body fat up, without having to do more!

With your food, it is a simple process. You will quickly know the right amount of calories, protein, fat, and carbs per meal and then basically you can eat any food, any time, as long as it stays in the right combination. This provides you the flexibility to eat anywhere your day takes you and still stay on plan.

Now with your exercise, let’s get each training session working at maximum capacity. We need a combination of fat burning and high intensity cardio, utilizing the best movements to activate all of your muscle fibers (since fat is burned in muscle). Fila Body Toning System (giveaway)

Ahhh.

Id never lie to you (or the company) and a few months ago Id probably have said a big ole NO to doing this product review.

It wasnt so much I was against ‘body toning apparel’ I would most likely have thought interesting. not for me. responded with a polite no & never pondered the sportswear again.

Flash forward to my current workout derailed state and quite frankly nothing sounded MORE appealing than a pair of bootcut body toning pants to this MiznotdoingmuchcardioFit.

I wore em.

I walked in em.

I hung out with Rodney Yee via DVD in them.

I adored them.

But let me back up.

First the pants:**


To my SHOCK the Tornado saw me in them & immediately said I like how those pants look on your bumbum (!)

I wore em with sneakers for my gym-stretching session. Still love!


The obligatory rear view so you know what that’s like

(**the husband has been traveling so I was compelled to self-shoot the photos. Because I adore you all immensely I asked a complete stranger to take the booty-shot. She thought I was a complete nutball.)

The bottom line:

What I loved about the Fila Body Toning System pants:

They lifted my booty. Sure the Tornado’s comment was exceedingly weird unusual, but I do have to say my 41 year old bumbum was less longing to meet the backs of my knees in these pants. TMI? Probably—but it’s true. And really who DOESNT wanna work out more when they already LOOK betterThey werent sausage casing TIGHT (I feared. I feared.)  They were snug but comfy.  In addition there was zero camel’s toe. Dont lie to me ladies you were wondering.The body toning pants made me feel energized. You may feel free to laugh (I did. at myself) but the pants reminded me I had leg muscles! Do they *really* do this as they claim: The compression makes the muscles work harder and will get up to a 50% increase in the work the muscles are required to perform. I almost dont care.  Even if it’s only placebo effect I will take it.I loved them to workout in & with platform flip-flops to hang out in. I felt fancy ambling around town  in them and not as though Id just donned flip-flops with my workout wear.

What I disliked about the Fila Body Toning System pants/in general:

Lack of color Yep. Probably just me but I’d love a pair in olive or deep purple.I longed for pockets. Funky jean-style back pockets (yep. again. could just be me.)Price. They aren’t cheap, yet if they work do we (the royal) really care?  Tough to say.  Im one, even in this economy, to invest in my workout gear. I have found the cheap stuff does not hold up.Im not one of their ‘real women models’ (yes I said it).

So there you have it.

My thoughts and, as sometimes happens up in herre, you dont have to simply take my misfit word for it.
