Chia Goodness Apple Almond Cinnamon Cereal Review

Chia Goodness Apple Almond Cinnamon Cereal

Chia Goodness is a "new concept breakfast cereal" (as described by their website). The ingredients are completely raw - just stir in milk or water, hot or cold, and wait a few minutes for it to thicken, giving it the comfort quality of oatmeal. I received a sample of Chia Goodness Apple Almond Cinnamon Cereal to review, and since I was already hip to the "new concept" thanks to my experience with Chia Goodness Cranberry Ginger Cereal, I knew what to expect ... that this should not be eaten as a cereal!

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 2 tbsp
Calories: 130
Total Fat: 6 grams, 9%
Saturated Fat: 0.5 grams, 3%
Sodium: 125 mg, 5%
Carbohydrates: 16 grams
Fiber: 4 grams, 16%
Sugars: 4 grams
Protein: 4 grams

Now don't get me wrong - I ADORE Chia Goodness Apple Almond Cinnamon Cereal - but the tag line should be something like, "we make cereal better." And I say that because one serving is 2 tablespoons, which provides 130 calories from 6 grams of total fat, 0.5 grams of which is saturated (9% and 3% of the daily value), 4 grams of fiber (16% of the DV), 4 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein ... no way I could eat 2 tablespoons of anything and call it breakfast!

So I add this to stuff - and it makes it better. I add Chia Goodness to plain cereal, like the ever so nutritious yet slightly bland Weetabix Organic Crispy Flakes & Fiber Cereal - it makes it taste better - interesting texture from the chia seeds and almonds, plus it makes it even more nutritious! I add Chia Goodness to plain oatmeal - it makes it 10x better. I add it to plain yogurt - wowza!

Coupons.com

The ingredients in Chia Goodness Apple Almond Cinnamon Cereal are chia, buckwheat, hulled hemp seeds, dehydrated apples, almonds, raisins, organic cane sugar, cinnamon, Celtic sea salt. A 12 ounce bag costs $7.50 online (via their website), which is not as expensive as it seems - a bag has about 11 servings, and I don't typically use more than 1 serving at a time.

This has become a staple in my pantry - I've started to automatically reach for this when I make oatmeal in the mornings.

Still Decompressing Plus a New Food Journal.

I’ve been spending a lit of time on twitter and reading all the FitBloggin recaps. Oh! and the pictures were posted! It’s been nice to just be.

I did write the second part of, I’m a Crazy Breastfeeding Momma!

Other than that I experimented with a new food journal. Twitter is just not working for me anymore. Too much to mange with multiple accounts. Instead I plan on keeping it offline and then just posting it here nightly.

Here’s what I came up with… Oh! and this is what I ate today…

I may make this every day! Such a treat. Nibbled the husband’s Dorritos. Stopped myself after 3-4. I was just eating them becuase they were there. The few I had where tasty. This was the end of it. I love having leftovers to grab for lunch! Cause I saw it and I wanted it. lol I have to admit, these things are better then I thought they be and this one is only 80 cals! I was hungry and I wanted to up my veggies so I peeled about 5 carrots and hit the hummus. The PopChips were a total add on becuase I didn’t want to stop dipping! Note: Hummus now gone. SO GOOD! I was hungry and I wanted something to hold me over until dinner. I made them with beef and bulked up with veggies and beans. So good! Was a little hungry before bed. This totally hit the spot. I added some frozen blueberries at the end. SO GOOD!

Ran 2 miles today! It was tough. I lost a lost of stamina. Had to stop and walk a buch of times but I felt great afterwards! Posted the Nike+ chart on Facebook.

I also walked Little Guy to the park after school.

Did "ok" in the water department. It’s all I really drink but I wasn’t married to it today. Just a few glasses, mostly with meals and after the run. Took a multi-Vit mid day when it popped into my head.

What do you think? Do you keep a food journal? If so, what works for you?

Disclosure: Got free samples of Attunebar, PopChips and Larabar at FitBloggin.

Video Update, a Weigh In and a Small "Only" Rant

I hope to get back to regular videos after the conference. Especially the podcasts. They will start back up in June. I promise! In the meantime I recorded this real quick…

So weigh in, yeah… it went ok. I updated my progress page.

Down .6.

Wait.. let me say that again….

Weigh in was FANTASTIC! I’m down .6!!

Do I wish it was a little more? sure. Of course. But I’m OWNING that .6.

I’m all about owning all my accomplishments anymore. I try to never, ever use the word "only."

I ONLY lost .4.
I ONLY walked for 10 minutes today.
I ONLY have… whatever.

"Only" is my least favorite word in the dictionary. It allows people to sell themselves short–completely undermining what they actually have accomplished.

I say… OWN it don’t ONLY it.

Ok, that was a little cheesy. lol

Anyway, I got to go. TONS of FitBloggin stuff to attend to.

Oh! and the post I mentioned in the video was this one about how I’m a sap and cry when my kids smile. I also added the feed to my babble posts in the right side bar under my short about. I love that I have that outlet to blab about baby and parenting stuff. It’s totally fun.

Crystal Light Pure Lemonade Naturally Sweetened Drink Mix Review

Crystal Light Pure Lemonade Naturally Sweetened Drink Mix

Crystal Light Pure is a low calorie drink mix that has no artificial sweeteners, flavors or preservatives. The Lemonade is sweetened with a combination of sugar and rebiana (Truvia brand sweetener).

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 1/2 packet (5 grams)
Calories: 15
Total Fat: 0%
Saturated Fat: 0%
Sodium: 15 mg, 1%
Carbohydrates: 4 grams
Fiber: 0%
Sugars: 3 grams
Protein: 0 grams

I followed the directions on the packaging and added 2 cups of water to a packet of Crystal Light Pure Lemonade. After shaking vigorously, the result was a very tart flavor of lemonade, but I much preferred this to Crystal Light Pure Tropical Blend. In my mind, this was a good starting point, but needed tweaking. Ironically I added a pack of Splenda and a little more water and got something that made my taste buds more happy. But - adding Splenda defeats the purpose of an "naturally sweetened" drink mix, but just adding less water didn't work for me.

Coupons.com

A 1/2 packet serving of Crystal Light Pure Lemonade provides only 15 calories from 3 grams of sugars. The ingredients are sugar, citric acid, maltodextrin, calcium lactate, contains less than 2% of natural flavors, rebiana (Truvia brand sweetener), sodium citrate, magnesium oxide, oleoresin turmeric (for color).

The suggested retail price is $3.29 for a box with 7 packs and I would buy this again - knowing that I'll be adding a little more sugar (increase calories) or Splenda.

Pilates Beginning Mat Workout [VHS]

Pilates Beginning Mat Workout [VHS]"Remember what Joseph Pilates said," instructor Ana Caban says. "'You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.'" Pilates has become very popular and for good reason. By working the core muscles (the abdominal and back muscles in the center of your body) you improve strength and posture and develop a lean, long line.

Certified Pilates instructor Ana Caban is a splendid teacher. First she demonstrates alignment and technique for 10 minutes, explaining the cue words you will hear and how to do the basics, emphasizing how to use the core muscles to strengthen the abdominals and back throughout the workout. Then she introduces a challenging 20-minute series of Pilates moves, instructing clearly, demonstrating beautifully, and continuing to advise you about technique, breathing, and form.

Even though this is a beginning Pilates workout, Pilates is never easy, so these moves will feel extremely difficult if you're new to this kind of exercise. For example, you learn to hold your abs tight whatever move you're doing, and you move only the muscles you're working at the moment, using your stabilizing muscles to hold the rest of the body still (much harder than it sounds!). Another participant demonstrates modifications throughout in case Caban's moves are too difficult or your muscles fatigue. If you've been wanting to explore Pilates and you're willing to put in the effort and concentration, this video gets our top rating. --Joan Price

Why should I use a Body Composition Monitor?
Maintaining a fit and healthy body is more than just about weight. Here are the benefits for tracking your total body composition with an Omron Full Body Sensor.
What is the Bioelectrical Impedance Method?
Bioelectrical Impedance (BI) is considered one of the most accurate and accessible methods of screening body fat and other body composition measurements in the privacy of your own home. Within seconds, BI sends an extremely weak signal to measure the inside of your body. Muscle, blood, bone and body tissue have high water content, which means they conduct the BI signal easily. Body fat, however, stores no water, so the BI signal is blocked or impeded from easily traveling throughout the body. The blocked signal (or high impedance) indicates the presence of more body fat.

PastaQueen says good-bye. JenFul says hello.

Spread the word, win a prize. (Maybe.) Tell someone about Jennette’s latest book, Chocolate & Vicodin and you could win an iPod Shuffle or a gift card from Amazon or iTunes. Learn more.

Finish/Start

In 20 words or less: I will no longer be updating PastaQueen.com. I will now be blogging at JenFul.com

I used to be Jenny. To some I was even called Jenny Sue. But there were a lot of girls named Jenny in the early 80's and there was always another one in my class. It made me feel less than special, like I wasn’t the unique snowflake they tell you that you are. I was Jenny F. and the “eff” sounded so harsh, though not quite as harsh as using the first two letters of my last name would have been: Jenny FU.

I’ve been PastaQueen for over six years. Actually, I’ve been PastaQueen since I had to sign up for a Hotmail account during summer camp in 1997. I registered PastaQueen.com several years after that and used it as a portfolio site. Then I set up a blog in its own folder, PastaQueen.com/HalfofMe. Eventually that folder took over the whole domain and that’s where I’ve been writing and talking with y’all for the past 2000+ days in 1207 posts.

I’ve enjoyed being PastaQueen. Jennette was too scared to talk about her fat issues with anyone. Not to her family. Not to her friends. But for some reason PastaQueen could tell the Internet, though no one was listening at first. But the more I wrote, the more confident I became. I started leaving my blog address in comments on other sites. I remember that injection of excitement I felt the first time someone commented on my blog, when someone had read something I wrote. I met lots of cool people. I got to go on trips and stay at fancy hotels and eat lots of oatmeal. I got to write a book and then another book. PastaQueen has done so much more than Jenny Sue ever could have imagined.

I’m at the age when my friends are having babies and then more babies. We don’t go out together as much as we did, and we talk about different things than we did in college. It’s not a bad thing. It just means our lives are changing. Diapers and parenting books have replaced the backpacks and math homework we had in high school. We’re not who we used to be and that’s ok. In fact, it’s natural.

As great as it’s been to be PastaQueen, I realized recently that I’m not PastaQueen anymore. PastaQueen had a lot of issues with her body that she needed to work out through her writing. And she did that. I know she did that because I don’t feel the need to write about my body that much anymore. I’m good, or at least 95% good. Sure, I’d like to lose some weight and it wouldn’t hurt if my skin were tighter, but I can handle all that. It ain’t no thang.

PastaQueen really needed support from her readers. She needed them to tell her she was doing ok and she wrote well and she was valued. And while I’m still grateful for all the support, kind words, and digital love you guys have sent me over the years, I don’t need it anymore, not like I used to. I like it and I appreciate it more than I can say. But you’ve helped nurture me into something stronger, someone who doesn’t need training wheels, someone who knows she can ride on her own.

PastaQueen wrote only about health and fitness on her blog, which was good for pageviews because she had cornered a niche. But in September of 2008 she decided to start blogging about other things, which was probably a sign that she was starting to outgrow the PastaQueen identity, like those baggy clothes stuffed in cardboard boxes she kept at the bottom of her closet to remind her of where she came from. She kept on blogging though, because she liked it. She liked the people. She felt compelled to share her thoughts. She liked being a part of that section of the blogosphere.

People still come to this blog looking for the old PastaQueen and are sort of surprised when they find me here instead. Sometimes I log into PastaQueen.com and I’m surprised to find me here instead. But that’s ok. It’s alright to change into someone new, and it doesn’t mean you have to forget who you were. PastaQueen wouldn’t have been PastaQueen without you. She would have just been some invisible girl chattering to her computer. I don’t want to be an invisible girl, so this isn’t really a good-bye. I’m just ditching my old name, just like Jenny Sue became Jennette. The PastaQueen name has a lot of baggage. It’s baggage I got traveling on one of the most fantastic journeys of my life, collecting nicks and scrapes on my way through the Internet and out a door into the real world. But it’s still baggage, and I’m ready to leave it behind. Buy some new suitcases. Fill them up with new junk.

I’ll still have an online presence at JenFul.com. I decided to shorten my name J-Lo style. Jennette Fulda. See? It’s a blog. I don’t know how often I’ll update it. I don’t know what I’ll talk about. But it will be there if I need it and if you care to listen. And when you go there you won’t be looking for PastaQueen. You’ll be looking for whoever I am right now. I thought about just setting it up at JennetteFulda.com, but only 1% of the population succeeds at spelling my name correctly. So, now I’m Jenful. That’s jenful! It’s my name and an adjective.

I’ve thought about doing this on and off for over a year now. Whenever I mentioned it to someone they’d talk me out of it, telling me not to throw away everything I’ve built here. Sometimes I’d look at my bills and then look at my ad earnings and think I couldn’t leave PastaQueen behind. Really, I was just scared to be something different. I was a hermit crab scared to leave her shell even though she’d outgrown her home. I was scared to lose my visitors and my page ranking and whatever income I feel like I’ve lucked into with every click.

But over the past year I’ve realized that holding onto who I was is stopping me from becoming who I will be. I’ve stopped caring about my stats, how many comments I get, my pagerank, my Technorati rank, my Alexa rank and all that blogging bullshit that it’s so easy to get caught up in. I haven’t logged into my Sitemeter account for months. And while I admit that I like the money, and that the money has helped me be able to freelance full time, I can’t stick around here for the money. I’ve probably stuck around too long as it is. Jerry Seinfeld said there’s a moment in a comedian’s act where you know you have to step off the stage. It’s that moment where everyone’s still happy and laughing. It’s tempting to stay in the lights, but if you keep going you’ll lose your momentum and you’ll lose the crowd. People only remember beginnings and endings anyway, even though most of us live life in the middle. Maybe leaving sooner would have been smarter or more graceful. It would be great if I had a master plan about my career and how to handle all my online shit or if I knew what the hell I’m going to do with the next 30+ years of my life. But I don’t. I’m just muddling along like I always have, discovering who I am going to be and sometimes being as surprised as you are.

So screw the money, the stats, and whatever prestige I might imagine that I have. I just need to do what feels right and this feels soooo right. Making the decision came with a wave of relief as strong as any tsunami, but instead of leaving wreckage behind I’ll leave behind what I created over six fabulous years of my life. Sometimes people email or comment wishing that I still blogged about running and weight loss and the thrill of all that amazing stuff. They wish I were who I used to be. They don’t want me to change, but I have. You change or you die. They want PastaQueen. But what’s great is that she still exists. She’s talking to you in the archives. She’ll cheer you on and maybe inspire you a bit. I’m leaving the site up so you can still visit her. She’ll always be there, frozen in time for you to look upon.

But I’m not frozen in time. Every seven years all the cells in your body replace themselves. Well, I’ve been blogging here for almost seven years, so I am literally not the woman I used to be. All the cells in my body have replaced themselves with copies of themselves. I am a completely different set of atoms that are aligned in the pattern of me.

This decision is mine. It wasn’t made because of any one comment or email. It was made because of the entire gestalt of my life. It’s not really good-bye. I’m not entering witness protection. I’m not going to become the new JD Salinger and do the reclusive author schtick. It’s more like I got a new haircut and went off to college. I’ll still be around, just not in the same way as I used to.

Thank you for everything. Really. You guys are the best. You are awesome. It has been great being PastaQueen. I’m grateful for all she did for me. And I hope that the next time you use her name, it will go something like this:

“Oh yeah, PastaQueen? I used to know her. She was fab.”

So, head over to JenFul.com or subscribe to the feed here. I WON’T be automatically forwarding subscribers of the PastaQueen feed to JenFul because I’d like people to make a conscious decision to follow me over there. I don’t want people who are looking for PastaQueen to find themselves in JenFul’s house instead. But the welcome mat is out and you’re all invited in! (Except if you’re a vampire. No invites for vampires.)

fitbloggin flashback

I know.

I’ll bet you thought after this post you’d be spared my conference-muzings.

Alas.

You were incorrect.

More than anything I want to again thank my sponsor UGI.

They rock, People.

Their product is amazing.

They are smart, strong, funny, motivated woman working their collective-asses off to help us work our collective-asses off (yesIsaidit.).

ONWARD.

What I learned and re-learned over the past few days.

Bullet’ed for your reading pleasure:

The second time can, indeed, be as fab as the first. I wont lie to you or Roni Noone.  I feared. I feared. I adored the intimacy we had at Fitbloggin10.  I was happy to see with more bloggers in attendance there was the same level of kinship & unity. There is nothing like being greeted at the airport by two amazing stranger-friends. Ive known Tara & Colleen on twitter for a while & being met at the Baltimore airport by their energy launched Fitbloggin perfectly.

Somethings ARE worth the wait, exceed expectations and feel IMMEDIATELY comfy like an old shoe you’ve known each other forever. I was nervous-excited to*finally* meet the other Fit Chick (sans her microphone) and, well, I love her just as much in person as on skype. When you have a nice thought—share it. Some may call it losing my filter, but I like to think of it as spreading the love.  With a few words you can alter the course of someone’s day or entire conference. I was on the *receiving* end of this at Fitbloggin & hope my shared words made me on the giving end as well. Our tribe is warm, welcoming and MIND-BLOWINGLY supportive. I could ramble (& get choked up in the process)  instead Ill just say read this post.I really don’t workout when on vacation. Roni offered an veritable buffet of fitness activities.  I worked my mouth-muscles chatting instead.  Time with blogger-friends feels all too fleeting. The sessions I attended were so packed with information & discourse they could have spanned an entire weekend (Hello! Intuitive Eating panel).  We healthy living bloggers are a wise & talented bunch. That said, I still think I learned more outside the sessions than in. The stories shared.  The laughter.  The tears. The blogger melding of the minds & plotting of world domination. Bloggers uniting to effect national change. All of that happen in hallways or on escalators or during snack breaks or meals or late night and it inspired me.At 40+ I wont back down from peer pressure something that scares me. I ate my first oyster at Fitbloggin.  Never. Again. I dont understand the allure and have been informed some of this is the fact I gag at the mere use of the word horseradish.

The beef jerky I currently consume *stinks* and many of you love me enough to sit near me in sessions anyway.

I leave town & the Tornado gets snazzy new boots (!).

I possess the ability to commit to & indeed execute wearing nothing but toddler clothing jumpsuits for 4 days in a row (save your applause). An impressive number of you fancy ladies own and use flat irons on a regular basis.  Im in awe.

When asked by people, as I have been frequently since Sunday morning, what did I miss at Fitbloggin?! my answer is this:

Absolutely nothing (as thanks to Roni the sessions were all live blogged), LOTS (hugs, love-fests, first time meeting shrieks of joy & shared moments which defy words) and please to come next year.

I’ve attended many conferences where I return tired, depleted and a wee bit regretting I took the time away from my family.

I returned from Fitbloggin feeling more CONNECTED than I had in a while.  To know me virtually or in real life is to know that is something this misfit really, really needed.

Rokit Fuel Stud Muffin Cereal Review

Rokit Fuel Stud Muffin Cereal

Since I had already experienced Rokit Fuel Cherry Almond Cereal Review, I knew it was heavy on the oats, so this morning, when I wanted a filling breakfast (8 mile run yesterday and 2400 yard swim today demands fuel), I decided to have Rokit Fuel Stud Muffin Cereal as a "hot cereal" breakfast.

NUTRITION FACTS
Serving Size: 95 grams
Calories: 380
Total Fat: 12 grams, 18%
Saturated Fat: 1 gram,, 5%
Sodium: 135 mg, 6%
Carbohydrates: 63 grams
Fiber: 6 grams, 24%
Sugars: 23 grams
Protein: 9 grams

I boiled some water and added it to the Rokit cereal already in a bowl and stirred it around - this absorbs water. The taste was sweet, but not too much so and it seemed like every bite had a crunch from nuts - I thought it was almonds, but there's also sunflower seeds, pecans, sesame seeds and walnuts listed in the ingredients list. There was also quite a bit of blueberries (which to me tasted like chocolate chives - possibly because of all the spices added), and I love my tart cherries in cereal, but they seemed to lose the tartness here. Still, I LOVED this as a "hooked up oatmeal." Quite tasty and very filling.

Each 95 gram container of Rokit Fuel Cherry Almond Cereal provides 380 calories, 12 grams of total fat, 1 gram of which is saturated fat (18% and 5% of the daily value), 6 grams of fiber (24% of the DV), 23 grams of sugars and 9 grams of protein. The ingredients are all natural.

That's a lot of calories for breakfast - but like they say, this is Endurance Food, and not only that, I found this to be a filling breakfast. I had an apple a few hours later, but felt no "I'm starving" hunger pangs when lunch time rolled around. I received samples from the company, but it can be purchased online through Rokit.com where a 6 pack cereal cup costs $17.94 - almost $3.00 each, which is pricey, so I would save this for mornings when I know I'm going to using a lot of energy - like running a half marathon, or doing a triathlon.

Working on mah Fitness: After a weekend's break from running races, it was time for another 5K. I finished it in 25:43 which is a personal best time for me, and I placed 2nd in my age group. More importantly, I felt I was finally back into consistent running - I'm following Hal Higdon's Novice 2 Marathon Training Plan (not actually planning on running a marathon through), and completed week 1 last week.

This week I'm running a trail 5K on Thursday and a 4 mile race on Sunday. And my 1st triathlon is in 2 weeks ... it's a sprint distance (800 m swim, 11.6 mile ride & 3 mile run), but I'm pretty intimidated. I'm thinking of putting it off for a few more weeks because I don't feel my bike fitness is where it should be - but maybe I should just do it and be done ... decisions, decisions.

Customer Testimonial
"I looked at a bunch of scales. All I wanted was a scale that was easy to use and accurate. Accuracy was my major criteria. This scale matched my doctor's scale. I weigh weekly and trust it. Plus it's easy to use. Step on it and the numbers appear in large, easy-to-read font. Glad I purchased it!" -- Norma Jean Phillipp (Parma, OH)

"Very stylish. It's very sleek, and I like the blue digital readout. Very accurate. Best on hard floors of course, but lightweight. The numbers are big enough to read without your glasses. Very good value for the price. Very satisfied." -- CincyGreg
